A Trip to the Southern Sichuan Bamboo Sea

Peter is an American student. Last month, he visited Sichuan with his family. When he got to the Southern Sichuan Bamboo Sea, he was very surprised. Everywhere he looked, there were tall green bamboos. He walked along small roads between the bamboos and took many photos. He also took a bamboo raft on a lake. The water was so clean that he could see small fish swimming. "This place is like a green dream!" Peter said happily.

Peter learned much about the Bamboo Sea during the trip. It's a very big and famous place. It covers 70,000 mu of land. It has many mountains and peaks, with 428 kinds of bamboos growing there. The most common kind is Nan Bamboo. It grows very fast—some can grow almost one meter in one day. The area is also a good place for fresh air. Many people go there to relax on weekends.

Bamboo is important in Chinese culture. For a long time, it stands for strong and brave people. Many poets and painters like to use bamboo in their works. Bamboo is also very useful in daily life. People use it to build houses and make tools. Some musical instruments are made of bamboo too. Pandas love eating bamboo leaves, and people can cook bamboo shoots as food.

Peter really thinks he has a wonderful trip in the Bamboo Sea, he hopes to go there again one day!

Ao Xue is a fantastic snow leopard (雪豹) from a wildlife park in Xining. This year, she celebrated her ninth birthday.

Snow leopards are large animals. They are more than one metre long and can (weight) up to 75 kg. These beautiful animals live in high and cold mountains. They might get sick in the zoo the air and temperature are different there.

(actual), workers and scientists once tried raising (饲养) seven baby snow leopards before Ao Xue, but all of (they) died. The result made the workers and scientists very (disappoint). In 2016, Ao Xue and her twin sister were born. The park team built comfortable home for them. It looked like the snow leopard's natural habitat (栖息地). Workers looked after the babies carefully. Finally, only Ao Xue made it and grew well.

In 2019, the park (be) glad to welcome another pair of snow leopard twins, Shui Mo and You Hua. This time, the team improved the feeding plan and also checked (检查) their health every day. Thanks the hard work, the babies grew much (heavy) than Ao Xue did at the same age.

The park team is happy to play a role in (protect) snow leopards. With more love, snow leopards will keep living in our mountains.

One day, Boya was traveling and stopped by a mountain. It rained suddenly, so he took shelter (遮蔽处) under a rock. Feeling quiet and sad, he took out his qin and started playing. He thought about the tall mountains around him, and his fingers moved on the strings (弦).

Just then, a voice said, "Wow! Your music sounds like the high, great mountains!" Boya looked up and saw a woodcutter (樵夫) standing nearby. He was Zhong Ziqi.

Boya was surprised, but he kept playing. This time, he thought about the flowing (流动的) river below the mountain. After he finished, Ziqi smiled and said, "Now your music is like the rushing (急流的) water!"

Boya put down his qin happily. "You really understand my music!" he said. Ziqi nodded. He could hear the feelings and pictures in Boya's music, even though he was just a woodcutter. They talked a lot and became good friends. They promised to meet again the next year.

Sadly, when Boya came back the next year, he found out Ziqi had died. Boya was heartbroken (心碎的). He went to Ziqi's tomb and played his qin one last time. The music was full of sadness.

After playing, Boya took his qin and broke it into pieces. "No one will ever understand my music like Ziqi did," he said. He never played the qin again.

This story gives us the Chinese saying "Gao Shan Liu Shui" (High Mountains and Flowing Water). From the story, we can know that a true friend can touch your heart.

Some young people share good ways to reuse these everyday things online. Luo Jiayi, a 20-year-old student, collects many takeout bags. He used them to wrap (包装) gifts, and turned a milk tea cup into a pencil case. "Saving isn't about spending a little money or buying cheap things. It's about saying no to waste," said Luo.

Luo's classmate Lu Yunli shares the same hobby. She started collecting takeout bags in high school, and there are many takeout bags at her home. "I use beautiful takeout bags to carry my lunch to school. It brightens my day," she said. "Who doesn't love beautiful things? What's more, they help save the earth."
