Every child has a dream of what they want to be, right? When Rence Butts was little, her dream was to become a volunteer firefighter because her father was one. Sadly, when she was 14, her father died and she was never able to volunteer with him. However, Rence's story doesn't end there. This is why I think of her as a true heroine(女英雄). She was strong-minded and never gave up, which makes her a good firefighter. Somedays she must be ready to deal with any emergency, like fighting a fire, dealing with a car accident or helping someone who's sick. Other days she is in the driver's seat. Sometimes Rence works nine to eleven days a month on 24-hour shifts(轮班). She also has a family to take care of. Her husband is a firefighter, too. 

Rence remembers the first time she fought a fire. She was awoken early in the morning by the alarm. She said she was very nervous but did what she had to do. When I asked Rence what the best part of her job is, she replied, "Helping people and saving their lives. " I think that shows signs of being a true heroine. She's always glad to do anything for anyone in need. With 140 people in her station, Rence is one of the only three women. 

I think she's great. We could never live without people like her who are glad to help others. Rence helps me believe that I can do anything. I hope someday to be just like her: to wake up and help people every day. 

I am an English teacher from Shenzhen. Last summer, I did some 1 work at a small school in Kenya, Africa. 

I taught the children English, maths and other subjects. Every time I marked their homework, I drew smiling faces, and the children always2 back. Some of the students' families had trouble buying enough food. Some were too poor to 3 their children's schooling. Realizing their needs, I decided to do more. 

I shared the videos about their stories online. My students in Shenzhen felt sorry to see the4 that the Kenyan children were facing and wanted to help. They5 a book fair and raised some money for the children in need. Soon, boxes filled with pens, books, and snacks arrived. The children looked very excited when they saw the6 from Shenzhen, China. The school prepared a thank-you show. With me in the centre, children sang and danced7 . At first, I felt shy, but then I joined them. We laughed and clapped our hands together. I could tell how8 these children were. 

On my last day at the school, younger students hugged me and said "Goodbye" While older students stood far away, trying to hide their tears. This made me9 , too. 

That experience in Kenya wasn't just a volunteer trip; it planted seeds in my heart. Now back in Shenzhen, I often think about the10 between us. I will continue to do voluntary work in the future.

Mr Brown: Oh, why do you like painting so much? 

Han Mei: Hmm... Because it brings me peace. 

Mr Brown:   

Han Mei: Lakes, flowers, trees ... You know, all beautiful things.   

Mr Brown: What do you like to paint most? 

Han Mei:  I even paint flowers in the open air every spring when they come out. 

Mr Brown:   

Han Mei: Sure, I'd love to.
