Taizhou city in Jiangsu Province of EastChina started its first online bus-hailing service in the Taizhou Medical High-techZone on June 28. Passengers can book rides with their smartphones for smart, point-to-point travel by ridesharing.
The service works based on demand. There are no fixed schedules or routes. Passengers can call the bus from any preset station. The system decides the best route based on passenger needs and traffic.
The first operating area is from Hailing South Road in the east, Tianxing Road in the south, Xiangtai Road in the west and Xianglong Road in the north. It covers 13. 4 square kilometers with schools, industrial parks, commercial areas and residential areas. There are125 stops in all, including 101 regular bus stops and 24 virtual stops.
The buses used are 6 meters long, green and white. Each can hold up to 15 passengers. The service works from 7 am to 6 pm. The fare is 3 yuan.
Passengers can book rides through the Youdian Chuxing app or the WeChat mini-program by entering the destination and confirming the trip. When booking, passengers wait at the pick-up place and show a verification code to the driver when the bus comes.
"It's very convenient. I will surely choose the online bus-hailing for my commute from now on, " said Zhu, a person in the trial.
She said the service had greatly reduced her commuting time by not needing transfers, which made her journey more efficient and convenient.
