The History of Tea
Tea is one of the most popular drinks in the world. It is (believe) to have originated in China over 5,000 years ago. According to legend, the Emperor Shennong discovered tea when leaves from a tea plant fell into his boiling water. He was impressed by the pleasant smell and taste, and thus tea was born.
Tea became an important part of Chinese culture. It was not only enjoyed as a drink but also used in medicine and ceremonies. During the Tang Dynasty, tea (become) so popular that it was considered a national drink. The famous tea master Lu Yu wrote the first book on tea, The Classic of Tea, introduced the art of tea preparation and appreciation.
