My name is Li Fang. I used to be  shy girl. But this term, I decided to do a brave thing in public. When my teacher asked who would like to be the physics monitor(课代表)，I put up my hand and got this role. At first, I thought it was easy,  later I found that it was a little difficult. 

To begin with, I found many of my  (classmate) didn't finish their homework on time, so I felt worried about them. I shouted at them  (finish) their homework as soon as possible. However, it didn't work but made them angry. One girl asked, "Why are you shouting at  (we)? You're  (make)it seem like it is all our mistake. "Then I realized it was actually my mistake. I should be  (friend)to them and talk to them politely. 

After this, I  (change)the way I spoke. "Excuse me. Could you please finish your homework?" I said. To my surprise, I found most of them understood me much better and finished their homework  (quick). I also realized I should be a good monitor who is helpful and patient. I really cherish (珍惜) this experience and I am very happy  my changes. This experience makes me grow up day by day. 

When I spent the summer with my grandma, she sent me to the store with a list. Behind the counter(柜台) was a woman, Miss White. 

"Excuse me, I said, and she looked up. "I need to get these, I continued, holding my list. 

"So? Go and get them, "Miss White pointed to a sign. "There is no one here but you and me, and I'm not your servant(仆人), so get yourself a basket over there. 

I went shopping twice a week that summer. Sometimes she shortchanged (少找零) me. Other times she overcharged (多收钱). Going to the store was like getting into a fight. But by the end of the summer, I could finish the one-hour shopping trip in around 15 minutes. On the morning when I was to return home, I stopped to buy some water. 

"All right, " she said. "What did you learn this summer?"

 "That you're mean!" I replied. 

Miss White just laughed. "I know what you think of me, she said. "Well, I don't care! I meet some children every day. My job is to teach every child life lessons. When you get older, you'll be glad!" Glad I met Miss White? Ha! Impossible!

Then one day my daughter came to me with her maths homework. "It's too hard, Mum, " she said. "Could you finish my maths problems for me?"

"If I do it for you, how can you learn to do it yourself?" I said. Suddenly, I was back at that store where I learned the hard way to add up the bill(账单)by myself. From then on, I've never been overcharged. 

I had a reason for being late, but it didn't  to the teacher. 

Kate thinks her parents shouldn't always  her other kids. 

They are  because their lives are not balanced.

New rules and behavior standards (行为规范) for middle school students came out (颁布) in March. Middle schools are going to use a new way to decide who the top students are. The best students won't only have high marks. The following are some of the new rules.

Tell the truth. Have you ever cheated in an exam? Don't do it again! That's not something honest students should do.

Do more at school. Good students love animals and care for other people. April is Bird Loving Month in China. Is your school doing anything to celebrate it? You should join! In that way, you can learn more about animals and how to protect (保护) them.

Protect yourselves. Has a thief ever taken money from one of your classmates? Don't let it happen to you. If you have to go back home late, you should let your parents know.
