Friends are very important in everyone's life because friends are always there when we need them. It's great (have) many friends, and I can't think about my life without my friends.

My best friend is Lisa. When I first (meet) her, I was five. She is one year older than me. now she is in the same class me, in the 8th grade. She is taller and (thin) than most girls in our class. She has long curly blond hair and blue eyes. I am not so beautiful. Sometimes I wish I could be as (beautiful) as she is.

Do you often compare yourself with other people and wish you could be more like them? We are all different in our own way. Self-acceptance can help you feel happier and better about yourself. 

What is self-acceptance?

Self-acceptance means learning to accept the things that make you who you are. And you should be thankful for what you're good at, like sports, science or singing. Self-acceptance also means valuing the parts of you that don't shine very brightly, like being forgetful or untidy. A 12-year-old girl, Lily, says self-acceptance means "knowing your own weaknesses and strengths（优势）and accepting who you are no matter what other people say or think."

Why is self-acceptance good for you?

When you accept who you are, you worry less about things you can't change. It makes you feel happier and more confident, The Anna Freud Centre, a charity that helps young people, says everyone can feel that they have to be perfect, but that makes us forget about the little things that make us special. ____ For example, some people may find letters or numbers hard to read, but they might have strengths in other things, like finding good ways to work out problems. 

How can you accept yourself?

Start by making a list of all the things you like about yourself. Maybe you're good at cooking, or people find it easy to talk to you. Also, try saying kind, happy things to yourself in a mirror every morning. Think up ways to treat yourself, such as taking a long shower, watching your favourite film, or eating delicious ice cream. But don't forget it's important to eat healthy food and get enough sleep. 

Vanessa and Niki had just begun a friendship. Niki was new to the school, and Vanessa had thought she was a snob (势利的人). That was mostly because Niki hardly said anything, and besides, that was the rumor (谣言)about her. But one day, Niki forgot her notebook in the classroom by accident, and Vanessa returned it to her. Then the two girls started to talk, and they got to know each other. Now Vanessa knew that Niki wasn't a snob, but she still didn't understand why Niki wouldn't talk to anyone. 

One day, Niki explained herself, "I don't really know anyone here except you, and I'm kind of shy. I know everybody thinks I'm a snob, but I'm not. I just don't know what to say to people. "

Vanessa had an idea for helping Niki. "If my other friends get to know you," she told Niki, "they'll like you, too. So why don't you sit with my friends and me at lunch tomorrow? Then everybody will see what you're like. " Niki was very doubtful, but she was tired of everyone thinking she was a snob. So she agreed to have lunch with Vanessa and her friends. 

The next day, Vanessa and Niki waited in the dining hall for Vanessa's other friends. Niki was nervous, but Vanessa said, "Don't worry. Just be yourself. You'll be fine." Finally, everyone else arrived. 

One of Vanessa's friends took one look at Niki and asked, "Why are you sitting with the snob, Vanessa? Come on and eat with us." Niki's eyes filled with tears. 

Vanessa took a breath and then said, "I'm sitting with Niki because she's my friend and she's nice. How about finding out for yourself instead of believing every rumor you hear?" For a moment, everyone looked at each other. Then, very slowly, the other girls sat down at the table. At first, nobody said much, but soon, they started talking. By the time lunch was over, Niki realized that Vanessa was right - all she had to do was to be herself. And what everyone else needed to do was to stop believing rumors. 

Sleep for humans almost always means there is a bed or a mat near here. Animals, however, have many different ways of sleeping.
