—I prefer winter.

Many families live busy lives. Every week, the children have homework, sports, music lessons and club activities. The parents are busy too. They work, do the housework, cook meals and drive their children to take part in activities. Some families do not have time to eat meals together more than once a week. Our community（社区）decided that it was time to take a break.

After three weeks of planning, we took one night off. We called it the"family night". It was a night for families to spend time together. Sports teams stopped their practices, and teachers did not give homework.

On the"family night", we decided to turn off our televisions. "We also decided not to answer the phone," answering machines said. "Please call back tomorrow." Many families ordered hamburgers and other food from stores or restaurants so that they wouldn't need to spend time cooking.

There were lots of activities. Storytelling and card games were the most popular. These activities gave families the chance to spend time together. Children and parents weren't so busy, and children didn't spend so much time playing computer games or watching TV. On the"family night", families relaxed and spent the evening together. We hope to have more"family nights".

Last week, our school had a special project about plants and animals. We had to make some  (poster). I  (attend) it with my classmates.

Not everyone thinks that children should help with housework.  Others feel that they should only think about school and after-school activities and have fun.

For children, learning how to do housework is an important part of growing up. 

For example, they can help clean up their rooms, make the bed, and set the table. In this way, children learn that a family needs everyone's help. As they grow, it feels natural for children to do more housework like washing the dishes.  If they are doing something for the first time, they should learn how to do it first.

 They think that helping with the housework might make children's lives hard when they should just enjoy being young. They think childhood is an important part of children's lives and that they should focus on enjoying it.

If you asked scientists whether monkeys and chimpanzees（黑猩猩）had a sense of right and wrong before they had a deep study on them, they would tell you that it seemed not possible.

It was believed that only humans could imagine the future. Some people said that most monkeys were cleverer than most dogs. What's more, if dogs seemed unhappy when they did something bad, some people believed that dogs learnt such an action to make their owners happy. It doesn't mean that dogs understand why their owners are angry. It doesn't mean that animals can think about the future.

Now, however, it appears that chimpanzees and monkeys may be able to think about the future. Santino is a chimpanzee and he lives at a zoo in Sweden. He is famous for his bad mood. Santino doesn't like being looked at by visitors and he often throws stones at them. Before visitors walk into the zoo, he must have decided if he is prepared for visiting days. He begins collecting stones so that he is fully ready to throw them when people come to see him. The interesting thing is that Santino would only collect stones when he thinks visitors might come. In winter when the zoo is closed, he doesn't collect them.

Santino's action is a clear example of an animal planning for the future. It's also an example to show "scientific" beliefs come from facts rather than opinions. It seems likely that within ten years, we shall have a completely different view of animal intelligence（智慧）。

Do you know about"lying-flat" travel（躺平旅行）? It's a new way to relax by slowing down and enjoying the moment during holidays. Now, many young people choose to travel this way. Cheng Yi is one of them.

Cheng Yi, a36-year-old worker, enjoys travelling. In the past, she and her family were always on the go during holidays. They rushed to busy cities, discovering more places and sightseeing. That always made them tired. Now, their holidays are more about spending meaningful moments together as a family.

"I used to think of such vacations as a waste of time, but now they fit our family perfectly. We choose places with playgrounds and fun activities for kids. We can relax and don't need to worry about too many people or long waiting lines. Just being together with family at hotels can make our holidays delightful," said Cheng.

More people are choosing"lying-flat" travel as a way to get away from busy routines and find inner（内 心的） peace. However, this doesn't mean they will stop exploring wonderful places. They are still open to other travel ideas.

"Travel isn't just about visiting many places. It's about experiencing the place you' re in and learning about the local（当地的）life. The good times we create together really matter," Cheng said.

How to be a better teenager

Teenagers are the hope of the country. Today I'd like to share my ideas about how to be a better teenager. 

"The Nanjing Photo Studio" is a powerful film by Chinese director Shen Ao. It tells  real story during the Nanjing Massacre(南京大屠杀). It was in 1937  Japanese took over the city. A group of people hid in a photo studio and tried (run) away from the Japanese army. They had to develop photos  Japanese soldiers. 

While (develop) the photos, they found special films-showing the terrible things the Japanese army did. The army took "friendly photos" with Chinese people to act like they were kind, but killed harmless people (quiet). People knew the photos showed the truth, they tried (they) best to protect the evidence(证据). 

Since the film came out, it (win) great praise. Many viewers are deeply touched by it. They say it helps them have a better (understand) of the pain at that time and respect those brave people more. The film is a (meaning) work that passes on national culture and spirit. As we move forward, we must remember history. 

Emma loved inventing things. (最近), Emma found many students couldn't keep their things clean, so she decided to make a better locker organiser(储物盒). She worked hard on it, fearing (失败)but still full of excitement. 

When Emma showed her idea to her teacher Mr Li, he (提供)her advice. Emma felt nervous but remembered her teacher's words:Take (冒险举动)and learn from mistakes. (因此), she decided to show it at a school science fair. There was (没有东西) holding her back.

King Zhao of the State of Yan(燕昭王)was a king with big dreams. He wanted to gather talented people to make the state1 . Then he asked the scholar(有学问的人)Guo Wei for2 . Guo told the king a story. 

In ancient times, there was a king who wanted a special kind of horse called qianlima. He sent many people to find such horses and 3 them for him. However, three years passed, and4 found him such a horse.

Feel sad? Hug a tree! These days, many young Chinese people have turned to trees to reduce stress. It might sound strange to most people. 

A scientist named Edward Wilson came up with the idea "love of Nature" in 1984. He thought humans are born to love being around other living things- That's why people often like natural, green scenes more than city views, and why many love cute pets. 

 A 2021 study found it can increase oxytocin-a chemical that changes how we feel. The more oxytocin we have, the calmer and happier we get-even 21seconds of hugging a tree works!

There's another chemical called cortisol that shows how stressed we are. When we're worried, mad, or really sad, our brain makes more cortisol. Hugging trees lowers cortisol, making us feel better. 

 Trees provide a great environment for those small living things which are hard to see. So hug trees gently-just like hugging a friend!

It's a normal day at school. You're playing soccer with your friends. One of them kicks you the ball and you fall hard to the ground ! The next moment, you're in the nurse's office, where a robot checks your bleeding nose with laser sensors(激光传感器)? Has the nurse's office been taken over by sci-fi aliens(外星人)?

No. You've just jumped 15 years into the future. And it's a future that Susan Epstein, a computer science professor who teaches AI, is really excited to think about. "I am crazy about this kind of thing! You could go up to the robot, put your nose in, and the machine would decide whether you needed to be treated, and how. "

Besides being cool, an AI nurse has other advantages. It doesn't need to take vacations. It doesn't need to get paid. And it might find out what's wrong with your nose faster than a human would. There are all kinds of ways that AI could be used to help make us healthier, and researchers are studying how to use Al to diagnose(诊断) lung disease, cancer, and more. 

Our robot nurse doesn't want to completely take the place of humans, though. "It would work with real, live nurses and doctors, " says Epstein, "there are things humans are good at, like building trust among people or comforting patients. A big part of medicine is the relationship between a doctor and a patient. " 

Epstein points out that AI programs will never be perfect—no matter how much we might want them to be. But if AI can diagnose a deadly disease more precisely(精确地) even 10 percent of the time, think of how many lives it could save. "Besides", says Epstein, "I think there are probably patients who might prefer to have a machine for a doctor!" Would you?

①A week later, I saw Captain Nemo again. Every morning, I noticed fresh air coming into the rooms and I knew the Nautilus(鹦鹉螺号潜艇)had reached the top. I would go out and see the sunrise. 

②Then I received a note from Captain Nemo. He invited me and my friends to go hunting together in the forests of Crespo Island. Ned was excited, thinking it was a good chance to run away. When I saw Captain Nemo the next day, I asked him why he was so interested in Crespo Island. He answered, "I love the sea forests in this island. " 

③During breakfast, the Captain explained that he had prepared diving suits with special air tanks before sending the note. These would let us stay under water for ten hours. He also made lights that ran on electric batteries(电池). When Ned realized we weren't going to land, he decided not to join us. 

④Conseil and I put on our diving suits, as did Captain Nemo. We went into a room and closed the door, and then entered another door. we were on the sea floor. It was an amazing experience. 

⑤We were about ten metres under the water. The light from the sun reached us. Everything looked very colourful. We walked over the fine sand and enjoyed the colours of the shells, fish and seaweed (海草). Conseil and I followed Captain Nemo as he crossed a large grassy area, going deeper and deeper. 

⑥At 100 metres down, we could still see quite well. Captain Nemo stopped and pointed to some dark shapes. This was the forest. The "trees" there were huge seaweed, and all their branches were vertical(垂直的). We could not stop looking at them. Fish swam around the branches like birds in a forest. Small bushes grew under the large seaweed. 

⑦Three hours later, we lay down to rest. I wasn't hungry, but very sleepy. We all slept, and when we woke up, we explored further.

①Most people care more about their relationships with others than they do about their relationship with themselves. However, a healthy relationship with yourself matters more. It's the key to many things in life, such as happiness and success. So how do you build a good self-relationship ?

②First, take good care of yourself. This means more than just eating well or getting enough sleep. Self-improvement is also important. It means getting to know yourself better, learning new things, and trying to be your best. 

③To become a better you, you need to face your fears and step out of your comfort zone(舒适圈). While the comfort zone provides safety and peace, it can also hinder your personal growth and the development of self-relationship. For example, Sometimes you might want to try something new but feel afraid, making excuses like " I'll do it next time. "

④Your relationship with yourself lasts your whole life, so treat yourself as your best friend. One way to practise self-understanding is through self-talk. Sit in front of a mirror and speak to yourself kindly. A bit quieter way is through writing. Write about your day, plans, and feelings each day and then read it out loud, which can help you understand yourself better. 

⑤Now that you've learnt why it is important to have a good relationship with yourself and how you can achieve it, all that's left is to start practising it.
