Every country has its own most popular literary works (文学作品). They are like keys to open the doors of different cultures. Let's see some famous books kids love. 

Chinese children are  in Journey to the West. It has been a popular bedtime story in China  many years. The clever Monkey King fights bad guys and  his friends with his magic stick. Many kids dream of being as cool as him! Even when they grow up, they still love the story deeply. It brings them  and makes them believe in the power of kindness and courage. 

British boys and girls all know Alice in Wonderland well. As the name shows, it's a story full of dangerous  exciting trips. Children laugh, cry and even get scared with Alice together while reading the story. 

Most American kids have  The Old Man and the Sea. Some scenes of the story may make your heart go faster when the fisherman tries to catch a very huge fish in the sea all by , and runs into sharks that want to eat his fish. But in the end, this book tells us to keep  against difficulties to the end. 

These  from China, Britain and America are different but amazing. They show us different national cultures and teach us to be a  man with a spirit of risk-taking. Books bring us together, no matter where we're from.

Walt Disney had a great love for drawing since he was a kid. He would draw whenever he had free time.  His simple drawings of animals and people were full of life. 

As he grew up, Disney didn't stop following his hobby. He tried to turn his drawings into something more.  These short films were the start of his big dream. 

Making cartoon films wasn't easy. Disney faced lots of problems. But he never gave up.  His hard work made his films better and better. 

Finally, his efforts paid off. Disney created many world-famous characters like Mickey Mouse. These lovely characters brought joy to millions of people all over the world.  People around the world loved these characters. 

Walt Disney's story shows us that if you love something and work hard on it, you can turn your hobby into a career (事业).  You can make a big difference in your life. 

The way you look is special. Do you know what I mean by that? We all look a little different. Some of us are tall. Some of us are fat. The point is, all of us have our own look—our own face. 

Sometimes, we might feel bad about looking different. We might feel like we look ugly or weird (怪异的). But our differences are what make us special. 

I recently watched a speech by a man named Robert Hoge. Hoge was born with a strange-looking face. His mother worried about the difficulties he would face in life. 

But Hoge didn't give up. Strangers would stare at (盯着看) him or even make fun of him. But he didn't care. He decided to own his face and feel confident (自信的) in himself. He has gone on to live an amazing life. 

It's hard when you feel like you don't look "normal (正常的)" or "perfect (完美的)". But the truth is, no one is perfect. The important thing to remember is that you are special, no matter what you look like. 

Do you feel you are busy after you enter middle school? You have more subjects to learn and less time for sleep. But you may find some classmates adapt (适应) quickly to their new school life. 

Li Wei is a seventh grader. He makes a timetable for this term. The timetable is important to him because it helps him arrange (安排) his school days well. Here's what his daily life is like on school days. 

So how can a timetable help students? First of all, it can help improve their health. Some students have no time for a good breakfast or some exercise. Also, they go to bed late and have difficulty getting up early. We all know they are important parts of a healthy life. With a timetable, these students can do them well even when they're busy with their schoolwork. Second, a timetable can help them do more things in one day. It sets time for different things, so they know what to do at different times. Then they can make good use of their time and finish more things. Li Wei is a good example for this. 

Some students find it difficult to keep a timetable. But when you do the same activities every day, they finally become your habits. Why not try making a timetable for yourself?

Hello, my name is Jimmy. One day my eighth grade friend said that he was taking the school geography bee (比赛) written test the next day. Something in his tone told me that he was not looking forward to the bee. I could not understand! It sounded like a lot of fun to me. 

All day, I found myself wishing I was in middle school, so I could take part in the geography bee. During my lunch break I walked up to my social studies teacher's classroom and asked her if I could take part in the bee for middle school. But she did hesitate (犹豫) a bit because I was too young, just a primary school pupil. I told her that I really loved to learn about our earth, its rivers, mountains, all the human cultures on it. She was still not sure but finally said, "Yes. " I jumped at once!

That next morning I was going to be in the school bee as a participant and learn things I was really interested in. I was not nervous one bit, instead just very excited to be doing something I really loved. We had four written rounds-two on the United States and two on the world. I did surprisingly well and placed on the top ten, beating some of the strong seventh and eighth graders. I lost in the oral round the next day, but won my teacher's attention. I came home and looked up the answers to the questions that I and other students lost on. 

I placed second in my school the following year, but more importantly, I realized that I really loved geography and enjoyed the time I spent learning it. I may have lost that first bee, but I won the world; a love for that world; love to explore that world-one country, one mountain, one river, one landform at a time; and that is certainly the biggest win for me truly!

In a common town in America, there is a boy named Bob born without arms or legs. But like each of us, he has a dream and with the help of his parents and three sisters, Bob has realized his dream. 

He was interested in football when he was 12 years old, and a high school football coach (教练) gave him a sports shirt. "To a 12-year-old kid, it just made me warm. I felt the need to know more about the sport," Bob said. After a full understanding of it, Bob dreamed of becoming a football coach. And he made it. 

To do his job well, Bob has to use a special chair. He can control (控制) it with his head and neck, and he can hold a special tool to write something by using his mouth. 

Last autumn, Bob worked as head coach of the Prospect High School Junior team. Under him, the team won 9 and lost 1. It gave Bob courage and confidence. Clearly, for Bob, football isn't just a sport—It is his life now. 

"I don't want to go, Miss White. I'm frightened（害怕的）, very frightened," Monica told her teacher. 

Monica was a very 1 girl. She always sat at the back of the classroom, 2 or taking notes. Every Monday morning, there would be a special show in her class and one student would be chosen to make a speech about his or her dream. Miss White hoped that Monica could have a try the next week. But she refused.

From that day, Monica's life changed for the better. At the age of 23, she became a newsreader. People who see her on television now will find it hard to 10 that she was once a shy girl who refused to speak up in class.
