Our school's annual English Speech Contest reached its climax last Friday, with the topic of"Telling China' s Stories" this year. Contestants were reminded that their speeches should(remain)original and culturally inspiring. Also, there were lots of fantastic performancesthe week. Contestants shared stories through different ways, such as English speeches,dramatic monologues(独白), and performances of(tradition) Chinese arts.

Some people learn a second language easily. Other people have trouble learning a new language. How can you learn a new language, such as English?

First, feel positive about learning English. If you believe that you can learn, you will learn. Be patient. You don't have to understand everything all at once.You can learn from your mistakes.

Second, practice using your English. For example, you can write a diary every day.Soon, you will feel more comfortable writing your ideas in English. After several weeks,your writing will improve.You can practice speaking with your classmates after class. You might make mistakes, but it's no worry. Gradually you will feel confident when you write and speak in English.

Third, keep a record of your language learning experience. You can write your learning experience in your diary. After each class, think about it. Do you answer questions correctly in class?Perhaps the lesson is a bit difficult, but you can try to understand it.Write these reflections(反思) in your diary.

 You should believe that you can do it. It is important to practice every day.You can make a record of your achievement. Make learning English fun, and have more confidence in yourself.

How can you remember a song from your childhood to this day? Why do your teachers use songs to teach you English? It seems there is a scientific reason for this.

Researchers are now studying the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language. They find that remembering words in a song is the best way to remember even the most difficult language.

"Singing could be a new way of learning a foreign language. The brain likes to remember things when they are used in a catchy way", said Dr. Karen Ludke. The findings may help those who have difficulties learning foreign languages. On his blog, Dr. Ludke writes,"A listen-and-repeat singing method can support foreign language learning, and opens the door for future research in this area."

Many language teachers know the value of using music and singing. Hua Zhuying, ateacher at a Chinese language school in Washington, D. C. depends heavily on songs in teaching Chinese. She says,"I use music all the time to teach children Chinese. For little kids usually we use the music. Not only does it work, but it is fun for kids."

"Sometimes, I think if I were taught English that way, maybe I could speak much betterEnglish than now," Hua Zhuying adds.

Our brain likes music, especially for remembering. So, if you' re still struggling in learning a language, why not try singing it out?

When it comes to learning English, many students in Shenzhen have turned to digital tools. In the past, most language apps focused on vocabulary games and grammar tests. But today, a new kind of app is becoming popular—— the AI language coach. These apps, like"SpeakUp" and"LingoBuddy", use artificial intelligence to provide real-time conversations.Unlike traditional apps, they can listen to your pronunciation, correct your mistakes, and even discuss topics you are interested in.

These AI coaches are designed to act like personal tutors(教师). For example, if you tell the app that you love basketball, it might start a conversation about the NBA. It can also adjust the difficulty of its questions based on your responses. This makes learners feel they are talking to a real person. Some apps even use"voice cloning" technology, allowing you to hear your own voice speaking fluent English——— a feature that promotes confidence.

However, not everyone is optimistic. Some people worry that over-relying on AI may reduce chances for real human interaction. After all, talking with classmates or teachers involves(涉及) eye contact, body language, and cultural understanding, which an AI cannot fully copy. Still, developers insist that their goal is to support, not replace, classroom learning.As one designer said,"AI coaches are like training wheels on a bicycle—— they help you balance until you can ride on your own."

The future of such tools looks bright. Experts predict that AI language coaches will soon include virtual reality environments, letting students practice English in simulated(模拟)shops, airports, or schools abroad. This could make learning even more immersive and fun.

Students at a middle school in Shenzhen held a lively and colorful English Week in June this year. The main aim of the event was to 1 students' interest in English language and global culture through interactive(互动的) experiences.

The success of this year's English Week has left everyone looking forward to what next year will bring.

A short video about a toy bear's balloon trip into near space became popular online. The toy bear in the video was not an ordinary one. It (carry) the childhood dream of Li Zhenghan, a university student.

Li has dreamed of going into space  he was a child. However, he didn't pass the pilot test in the high school. His teachers and classmates knew his dream, so they encouraged him(follow) his dream in a different way.

One day at university, news about a toy bear flying to space caught his eye. This made(he) want to give it a try. But at that time, he had no idea on how to start.After four years of studying, Li felt ready to try this cool experiment with his roommates.

While they were (prepare) for the experiment, some people questioned them. But they didn't care. Finally, they decided to send the toy bear from Li' s hometown.But it was not as (success) as the video showed. The first flying balloon only lasteda few minutes before falling.

"Don't lose heart. We will check our equipment (careful) again so that we don't make the same mistake," Li told his team. After several (try), the bear flew into the sky and reached near space.

" experience is so great, but this isn't the end. I will do more experiments like this in the future to make my space dream come true," Li says.

Have you ever looked up at the stars and dreamed of traveling through space in a spaceship? But becoming an astronaut is far more than just having a dream.

Can anyone be an astronaut?

Of course not. You don't have to have a science degree, but most astronauts do. Most of them are pilots, too.  You need to be easy-going, patient and helpful to spend so much time in a small space with other people.

People have to train for years to learn how to stay healthy and safe. They practise space walking and living in zero gravity.  Everyday tasks like eating, washing and sleeping can be difficult in a spaceship. There is no running water, so you have to wash with wet tissues(湿巾). It's hard to enjoy the dry food that astronauts have to eat. And to sleep,you must cover your eyes because the sun rises every 90 minutes on the International SpaceStation.

What health problems do astronauts have?

Living in a zero-gravity environment causes changes to our bodies.  Astronauts often get backaches because you grow in space— up to 8 centimeters! It's also common to have headaches and to feel sick, especially at the beginning.

For thousands of years, humans have explored the Earth. Nowadays, we are exploring space. Astronomers(天文学家) are the modern-day explorers. Now, many astronomers are looking for new planets and new places for humans to live in the future. But where do astronomers start exploring?

First of all, astronomers look for a star. That's because our own Earth moves around a star—— the Sun. More importantly, it is neither too far from nor too near to the Sun for heat and light. So when astronomers have found the star, they look at the planets around it. In recent years, astronomers have found nearly 400 new planets with stars. However, many of these planets are either too near to the star or too far away.

However, if the planet is in a good place, astronomers look for three key things: water,air and rock. Water is the most important because all life needs water. Humans can drink it and they can also grow plants with water. And plants produce air for humans to breathe and food to eat. Rock on a planet is also important. That's because there is often water under the rock.

After many years of exploring, astronomers have found a planet like the Earth. It'sGliese 581g and it's near a star. The astronomers think it has water and rock and the temperature is between - 31℃ and - 12℃. That's cold, but not colder than some parts ofAntarctica or the Arctic Circle in winter. Additionally, Gliese 581g is bigger than the Earth. Ayear on Gliese 581g is only 37 Earth days, not 365 Earth days. But astronomers do not think these are big differences and some of them think Gliese 581g will be a new Earth. However,Gliese 581g is twenty light years from the Earth.

On November 1, 2025, the Shenzhou-21 crew successfully entered China's SpaceStation. China's Shenzhou-21 spacecraft is going to do something great: send four mice into space! This is a special mission in China's space history, as these are the first small rodents(啮齿类) animals sent by our country's spacecraft. Many people are excited about this news,as it marks an important step in China's progress in space exploration and helps us learn more about living beyond Earth.

These four mice are not common. Before the mission, they went through strict tests.More than 300 mice tried to get this chance. The tests were not easy. They had to show strong health, the ability to adapt to the space and even the ability to stay calm in strange situations. For example, they needed to balance on a rotating (旋转的) stick for a long time without falling, and get used to sudden movements. Only the top four, which performed best in all tests with great patience and calmness, got the precious"space tickets" to start their special journey.

In space, the mice will live in a special small home.  ▲   This home can carefully control heat and cold, keep the air clean, and even change lights to suit the mice's daily needs.It has all the necessary things: food, clean water, and a system to take care of its waste. They will stay at the space station for 5 to 7 days, and scientists will watch their state closely day and night.

Why do scientists choose mice for this mission? Because mice's genes(基因) are much like humans'—— about 85% similar. The information scientists get from the mice will help us learn how to live safely and healthily in space for a long time. This mission is truly an important step for China's space dreams.

Wang Haoze is a fantastic woman in China's space program. She was  1  inMarch 1990 in Luanping, Hebei Province.

She was really  2 about her studies and she was an excellent student. When she was at Southeast University, she studied a. subject 3 Energy and Power Engineering.She was so good at it that she got the National Scholarship. And she was also named an"Outstanding Student in Jiangsu Province". Later, she continued her study in the same school and got a master' s degree(硕士学位) in another 4 , Engineering Thermophysics.

Wang Haoze is not only smart but also interested in 5 . She was on the school's track and field team and often joined in sports competitions in Jiangsu Province. This made her very 6 .

The Time Machine is  classic science fiction novel by H. G. Wells. It(introduce) readers to a fascinating idea —— traveling through time. The main character is known as the"Time Traveller".

In the novel, the Time Traveller invites some friends to his home. He explains his theory about time travel. They debate whether time can be a (four) dimension(维)like space. Some are curious, but others are skeptical(怀疑的) about it. The Time Traveller states that people can move  all directions of space. However, one guest gets very excited during the talk. He firmly argues  the whole idea is impossible. The Time Traveller remains calm and patient. He asks why they cannot stop or(speed) up along the Time-Dimension. The Very Young Man listens with great interest. He is not sure  such a machine could really be built.

In the end, the discussion leaves everyone deep in thought. Some guests feel (disappoint) and confused by what they heard. They begin to question their own (understand) of reality. The story (successful)challenges our basic ideas about time and possibility.

Science fiction is a popular kind of writing. Many people think of Jules Verne as the father of science fiction. He was born in France in 1828. His father wanted him to become a lawyer.At first, he wrote plays for the theater. Then, in 1863, he wrote a story calledFive Weeks in a Balloon. The success of this book encouraged him to write more stories,such as A Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864) and From the Earth to the Moon(1865).

In the 19th century, many people were interested in science and inventions. As a result, they were very popular. Verne's writing included many predictions for the 20th century and many of them came true. These books were very successful and they made Verne rich.

 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was a successful movie for Walt Disney. It was the first Disney movie to use real actors instead of cartoon drawings. Around the World in EightyDays is another famous movie based on one of Verne's books. For him, the most important thing is to be always on time!

Captain Maya stared at the strange pattern of lights on her spaceship's main screen. Her crew had discovered it deep inside an ancient ice moon(卫星), Encela, orbiting a distant gas giant(巨行星). It wasn't a natural rock formation. The lights pulsed(律动) in a clear,repeating rhythm—— like a heartbeat, or a code. The scientific team was excited, calling it the"Signal." But Maya felt a deep unease. The galaxy was full of wonders, but not all of them were friendly.

Dr. Aris, the chief scientist, worked day and night to understand the Signal."It's mathematics, Captain! Universal language!" he explained, his eyes bright with excitement."It's sending a message. It could be a greeting, a warning, or… an invitation." The crew was divided. Some, like Aris, wanted to send a reply. They argued that this was the moment humans had dreamed of for centuries: first contact. Others, including the security officer,were worried."We don't know who or what is on the other side," he warned."What if the invitation is a trap?"

Maya listened to both sides, and was hesitant to make the final decision. Her mission was to explore, but her duty was to bring her crew home safely. The Signal was beautiful, a song from the darkness. Yet, its beauty was worrying. It was too clear, too purposeful. Was it a hand reaching out in friendship, or a bright light used to attract the curious?

She finally made her decision."We will not reply yet," she ordered."First, we learn. We study the moon, its structure, and the energy source of this Signal. We need to understand the sender's environment before we understand its message." The crew nodded, a mix of disappointment and relief on their faces. The mystery of Encela was far from over.

A recent news story about a student from Beijing's Renda Fuzhong High School has inspired many. The student, Li Minyu, wrote a sci-fi story for a class project. Surprisingly,this story became a key part of his successful application to a top university in the UnitedStates. The story,"Echoes(回音) of Titan", was not about wars with aliens, but about communication. In it, humans and an alien species living in the oceans of Saturn's moon,Titan, learn to understand each other through art forms instead of using language. The aliens"sing" with magnetic fields, while humans share Earth's music.

Li's teacher said the project aimed to develop creative and critical thinking."Science fiction isn't just for fun," the teacher explained."It's a serious tool for exploring‘what if'questions about science, society, and ourselves." Li spent months researching planetary science and the nature of communication before writing. His story imagined a future where understanding comes not from force or technology, but from shared creativity and the courage to admire the unknown.

The U. S. university's admission officer commented that Li's story stood out."We read thousands of applications about perfect grades and test scores," the officer said."His story showed something more: a unique way of thinking, deep curiosity, and the ability to connect science with humanistic concerns. It showed a mind prepared for the complex challenges of the future." For Li, the story was a personal journey."I didn' t write it to get into a university," he said."I wrote it because I was truly curious. The admission was just a wonderful echo of that process."

This case has started a discussion among educators. It suggests that in a world where AIcan write essays, the truly valuable skills are human imagination, empathy, and the ability to tell stories that ask new questions.

What will the future world be like? Many people are glad to give their 1 . Here are two imaginations about the world of 2 .

When people talk about the future, we like to think that we will have our own personal flying car. We would fly at 480 kilometers per hour, avoiding traffic lights,3 roads and speeding tickets. However, some people point to the disadvantages of flying cars. One big problem is what will happen if the flying cars 4 ? Then there will be problems with traffic control. Also, if they become popular, there will surely be too much air traffic. So it seems that flying cars will face more than a few problems if they are to get off the ground.

Imagine you have your own Ironman(钢铁侠)5 . Several companies are trying to build a practical robot"exoskeleton". This is a suit of robot arms and legs which follows your movement. It will allow the wearer to lift heavy objects, walk a long way and even punch through walls! It is 6 in many ways, especially for people with disabilities. This suit might help people to walk again after 7 or injury. But the disadvantage at the moment is the 8 . Even a simple suit can cost hundreds of thousands of pounds. Another problem is battery life. A suit like this needs a lot of 9 and batteries only last about 15minutes at the moment. One other problem is that a badly programmed robot suit could10 the wearer. You wouldn't want your robot leg or arm bending in the wrong way.

So, in the future, we might be able to fly to work and lift heavy things. But there are plenty of problems to solve before this will be possible.
