Making decisions in life can be a difficult task. 

  In fact, the decisions you make today will not only influence(影响) your future, but also other people and the world in which you live. 

Decisions making includes thinking, talking, and searching for information related to a problem. 

  You do this by talking with others who know about the subject, going to the library, and thinking about two or more solutions. 

 An example is your ten-year-old car breaks down and needs much money to repair. You need transportation to get to work, to do shopping and to deal with other tasks. You must decide the best way to spend the family's money. 

In deciding or making a decision, there is a six-step process:

●Define(明确) the problem. Understand the problem clearly. 

●Gather and list all the information you can get on the problem. 

●Test out two or more solutions to the situation. It is important to have many possible solutions to the situation. It will take time to research the variety of solutions. 

·  Look at the good and bad sides to each solution. What are the results of each? Answer the questions: Will the solution be good for me … the family . . . co-workers? Stay with your values and those of your family. 

●Choose the best solution to solve your problem. 

●Evaluate the decision you made. Decide if you need to change your action plan.

①Something unexpected happened in the summer of my eleventh year. The home where I had grown up was burned to the ground in the middle of the night. Thankfully, my mum, dad, grandma, brothers and I escaped(逃离)along with our dogs. Yet, we had nothing but the night clothes we were sleeping in. I spent the rest of that night with a friend of our family. I tried unsuccessfully to sleep in bed in his house. I was too scared. ②The next day my mum brought me a few T-shirts and pairs of jeans that another friend gave to her. One pair of them was too short and the other pair was too long, but I didn't care. At least I had some clothes again. My dad returned to our broken home to see what he could find. The only thing he could save was my mum's ring. 

③To spend the summer, my dad rented(租) a big house for us on the same road as our old house had been. As we moved in, our friends and neighbours(邻居) continued to donate(捐赠) what we could wear and eat, and what I could use to study to help us get back on our feet. 

④From this thing, I realise love is around us. 

What do most people remember about their school days? Playing with classmates during breaks, eating food in the dining hall, or going to the headmaster's office, perhaps. But about 850, 000 teenagers in the UnitedStates don't experience these things, because they are homeschooled(在家自学的). They don't go to a regular school. Their parents teach them. Their education takes place at home and in the community. What is it like to be homeschooled? Read Dylan's blog about his homeschooling experience. 

Slowly but surely, Amy and her grandparents were making progress. Boxes of all sizes were placed on top of each other throughout the house. Amy's grandparents had lived in the house for years and they had collected many things. 

The dining room was full of memories. Amy's grandfather kept many fine dinner plates from his home town. After carefully wrapping up(包装)the plates and putting them into a box, Amy lifted it up and moved it out of the way. But the box was too heavy. It suddenly fell from her arms and dropped to the floor. All three of them heard the plates break into pieces. 

"I'm sorry!" Amy apologised. 

"It's okay, " her grandfather said kindly. " It was an accident. "

They opened the box, and sure enough, many of the plates were broken. Only a few remained whole, Looking at the small pieces, Amy felt really sorry. She knew these plates were passed down from her great-grandparents and carried many family memories. 

"Don't worry, " her grandmother said, patting her on the back. 

Amy still felt very sorry. She was trying very hard to think of a way to make it up for her grandparents. 

Soon, Amy's father came to pick her up. Before she left, she kissed her grandparents both, picked up the bag of the broken pieces and left. 

The following day, Amy went to an art store and bought everything she needed. Then she started to work. She used a thin board as the base. Then she took out the colourful plate pieces and glued them in a creative way on the board. When it was dry, Amy wrapped it up. 

After a few days, Amy's family had a big dinner at her grandparents'new house. She handed her gift to her grandparents. 

"USA? Britain? Which country is better to study in?" We often have such discussions. As China opens its door, many Chinese students have a chance to study abroad. They want to learn the outside world. 

It is true that studying abroad can help students develop themselves:

◆ After two years' study and lives abroad, most of the students can speak English very well. 

◆ The students become more confident and knowledgeable. Some of them even graduate from one of the most famous universities in the world, so they are welcomed by many companies. 

But there are problems that should be considered:

◆ Students must spend a lot of time learning another language. 

◆ There are reports about Chinese students abroad running into an ocean of difficulties and giving up finally. When they have to take care of themselves, it is harder for students to learn well at the same time. 

◆Studying abroad brings a heavy burden(负担) to the family. For most Chinese parents, the cost of studying abroad is very high. But is it worth it?

So when you wonder which country is better to study in, think it twice.

A young woman from South China's Guangxi Province has helped local farmers sell their kumquats(金橘) through live streaming(直播) in online shops and also creates many job opportunities(机会). 

Lai Yuanyuan comes from a family from the village of Fule in Rong' an, Guangxi. 

Like many other people in the village, her parents used to sell their farm produce at a low price because it was difficult for them to get to the market. 

After coming back from her studies in Korea in 2018, Lai began to consider what she could do to improve the living standard(水平) of local farmers and help them make more money. 

Lai decided to make her idea come true when she found that their future must depend on live commerce(贸易) and the fast growing express delivery(快递) industry. 

Therefore, she set up her own online shop and let technicians make a brand of local kumquats in 2019. Then she started to sell farm produce through live streaming which makes a direct way for the customers to trade with the farmers. In this way, they can greatly reduce the selling steps. Besides, live streaming is really easy to learn for the farmers. 

With the improvement of kumquats' quality, the turnover(营业额) of her online shop was up to 20 million yuan in 2020. 

Thanks to her efforts, now local people have a good market and become richer than before. 

Except for providing local people with job opportunities, she has also encouraged some young people to return to Fule and build their own business in these years. 

Dear future Linda(or rather myself), 

I hope when you read this letter you don't find my writing too messy! At the moment, I'm 15 years old and living at home with my family. I love school and have lots of good friends. We do lots of fun things together like parties, ice skating and swimming. My biggest worry is not doing well in my school exams, but I'm working really hard so I have nothing to worry about. 

There's so much I(you!) want to do. I hope you' ve travelled all over the world and seen lots of things and met lots of people. I hope you' ve visited the Great Wall in China and the pyramids in Egypt, shopped in New York City and in Paris, and seen polar bears in Norway and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. I' ve just remembered, you always wanted to see elephants in India—I hope you' ve managed to do that too. 

I promise myself I' ll always try my best and have no regrets. I never want to forget where every step of my life has taken me. Already it seems as if so much has happened. I' ve moved from primary to junior middle school(about to graduate), been taught to swim and dance(I love ballet dancing), learnt to speak Chinese and French, and raised money for those in need by selling old toys and books. 

I really hope you' re happy. I hope you have a successful career that you enjoy doing and look forward to each morning when you wake up. I hope you' re surrounded by good friends and family and maybe also have a family of your own. More than anything else, I hope you' ve enjoyed every single moment so far!

①Paying attention to body language is one of the best ways to find out what is really going on inside someone's head. A small movement of the mouth or nose, or a wink(眨眼) of the eye-These actions can show much more about persons' feelings than anything they say to you. Here are some basic movements made by Westerners and their meanings. 

②Shrug(耸) their shoulders. This means"I don't know" or"I don't mind it". If your friends shrug their shoulders when being invited to a party. it shows they are not very interested in it. 

③Keep their fingers crossed, It is a gesture that wishes for good luck. Before people take exams, they often cross their fingers in the hope of good grades. Football fans do the same thing when their favourite team gets a penalty(点球)—— They wish the player will score a goal. 

④Rub(揉) their chin(下巴), If someone rubs their chin, it often means they don't believe what someone is saying! So if your friends make this gesture, it secretly tells you how they feel. 

⑤Scrateh(挠) their head. If your European English teacher scratches his head when you ask a question, he is puzzled or doesn't understand what you said. Either that, or he can't remember your name!

⑥Anyway, you need to be very experienced to fully understand what you see.
