How to Be Good at Sports

If sports are something that interests you, it stands to reason you would want to be good at them. Succeeding at a sport takes skills, and skills take patience. However, there are other things you need to think about if you want to be a good sports player. 

If you want to become a sports superstar, joining a team is a good way to start. Even if your skills are low now. Sports teams are everywhere, and most of them are free to join. 

This one should come as obvious, but you might be surprised how important proper sleep is. This is especially true during times of intense(紧张) practice or training, where things get so busy that it becomes hard to cram(挤满) everything into a usual day. However, your body needs its full rest. 

Everyone should make a point of eating a diet that does good to their body. This is especially true if you want to be great at sports. Eating junk food will work against whatever efforts you make in the gym.

①I'm Dan. I started running half marathons(马拉松) in the 1970s. I'm78 now. I' ve been doing them for nearly fifty years and I still get the same excitement at the start of each race as I always have. I don't do as many as Idid. I used to run around 30 races every year and in my thirties I got quite good at them. I think my personal best was about 1 hour and 17 minutes, which was only ten minutes over the world record then. These days I do about 10 races a year and my time is quite a bit slower. At my age I need a lot more preparation and my body doesn't recover as quickly as before, but Inever give up.

Phryge: The Mascot(吉祥物) for the 2024 Paris Olympics

The mascot for the 2024 Paris Olympics is a lively character named"Phryge". Shaped like a triangle, it is red, blue and white, mirroring the colours of the French flag. The design drew inspiration(灵感) from the common Phrygian cap in France, known as the"cap of freedom". The playful appearance of the mascot was sure to attract people from around the world during the Paris Olympics in July and August last year.

Paul and I were on our school basketball team, the Lions. After we joined the team, we became good friends soon. We were both huge basketball fans. Paul's favourite player was Richard. He was only 1.6 metres tall, which made him the shortest player ever in his team. Paul was only 1.6 metres tall too! Paul knew that being shorter than other players meant that he had to practise more. During all those hours of practising on his own, he took Richard as his example.

Our coach ignored(忽视) Paul because of his height. So Paul was still a replacement(替补). It was really painful for him. Everyone knew Paul was someone who worked really hard and had a strong wish to play for the team. However, Paul didn't get a chance. 

This week, the Lions were playing against the Bears, a team whose record had been perfect this season. Suddenly, a player and I knocked into each other. My knees hurt badly. The team got together, looking worried. The last quarter was about to begin, and my team was behind by 10 points. 

"I don't think I can play any more, coach, " I said quietly as the doctor checked my knees. 

"What about Paul?" someone suggested. 

"Paul?" said the coach. "He can't play!"

"Give him a chance, coach!" I said. 

"Let me try, coach! I won't let you down!" Paul said. 

"OK!" the coach finally agreed,"Don't let us down, Paul.It's your time

to shine.

Paul jumped up and rushed into the court(球场). And clearly, all the hours he spent practising alone paid off. The other team just couldn't keep up with Paul's energy and speed. He made it and people couldn't stop cheering for him. 

When the game ended, our team won by two points.

To make summer vacations more meaningful, the English corner of our school has given a list of what to do for this summer.

Some people are lucky to start their first job they love. But it isn't always like that. It is natural to change your first mind and change your first job. Maybe your first job is not your dream job, but it doesn't mean that the right job for you isn't right around the corner!

Some research shows that people get more happiness out of jobs when they feel they are doing something valuable for others, such as helping the old people in the nursing home and raising money for homeless people.

Recently, the world's first fully electric plane has flown successfully for almost 15 minutes. On Tuesday, this special plane passed its first flight test. It took off from the Canadian city of Vancouver. The success brings hope that airplanes may one day end their pollution in the air. 

"This shows that business airplanes in the all-electric form can work, "said Roei Ganzarski, chief executive(首席执行官) of the company MagniX. MagniX made the plane's motor(发动机), its most important part. 

"The technology will help airline companies save a lot of money and protect the environment of the sky as well, " Ganzarski told reporters. "This means the start of the electric flight age. "

McDougall took the plane on a short circle along the Fraser River near Vancouver International Airport in front of around 100 people soon after the sun rose.
