Last week, our school held a special event called"Chinese Traditional Arts on Campus". 

Many years ago, Saihanba was a beautiful forest in the north of Hebei. It is about 400 kilometers from Beijing. For  (hundred) of years, the emperors liked to go there to hunt. However, in the 1800s, everything started to change. Wars, forest fires, and deforestation  (slow)

turned the green forest into a desert.

Two summers ago, a whale named Rounder gave birth near the island of Dominica. When the baby was about to be born, eleven other whales from her family swam over to help. They made clicks to communicate with one another. After the baby was born, the whales helped her reach the surface（表面）of the water to breathe by holding her. They stayed with her until she was strong enough to swim by herself. 

Today, scientists are trying to understand the language of whales. They are using new technology to record and study the sounds that whales make. These sounds may express feelings such as care, pain, or joy. If we can understand them, we may learn more about how whales live and how they feel. 

A scientist named David Gruber started a program called CETI. His team includes experts in language, biology, and AI. Their work builds on several years of findings in animal communication, not only in whales but across the animal world. They hope to develop a tool to change whale sounds into human words. 

This work may help us protect animals better. For example, whales use sound to find food and stay in touch with their families. However,noise from ships and machines in the ocean can make life difficult for them.If we can understand what animals are saying, we may be able to make better rules to keep their world safe. 

To celebrate Earth Day, a lively flea market（跳蚤市场）was held on a Saturday in April. The event was organized by a public service center in Shekou. Tao, from the center, said it was to call on more people to care about the environment and bring the community together. About 30 stands were set up by both local and foreign citizens. Many people came to enjoy the event. 

One stand was run by Abigail, a foreign teacher. She gave away her family's old clothes and toys for free. "These are no longer useful to me, but they might help others, " she said. With a smile, many people took things they needed. Another popular stand was run by Mr. Wang, a local citizen. He sold books and toys that once belonged to his daughter. "We' ve sold about 70 books in less than two hours, " he said. Nearby, handmade earrings by Maggie caught the eyes of many young people. She started making them as a hobby and now sells them through her small business. To make the event more exciting, a musician named Mark held a mini-concert. It attracted a large crowd. Later, an American singer surprised everyone by singing a Chinese song. 

The flea market was a fun weekend activity and a great chance to care for the environment. Many people hope for more events like this. 

Nita is a science lover who enjoys making new tools. 

While testing her latest invention, Nita hears a loud noise behind her house. She walks towards it and sees a strange green boy. 

"Hello. What are you doing?" Nita asks. The boy runs and hides behind a tree. 

"Am I that scary?" Nita laughs. After a moment, the boy comes out and points to the sun, "I'm absorbing（吸收）its energy——because I'm too weak and need it to get my strength back, " he says. 

"Oh! Where did you come from?" Nita asks. 

"Another planet. My spaceship is broken, and I' ve lost my energy ball. I need to find it so I can go back home. "

"I can help you, " Nita says. They search for the ball all day, but they can't find it. The green boy feels sad and his body slowly begins to emit light. 

That night, Nita can't sleep. She keeps thinking about the light coming from his body. "Oh! I know how to find the energy ball!" she realizes. She gets up quickly and builds a special tool that can help find shining things. 

The next day, Nita shows the boy her tool and explains her idea. They continue searching together. "Look! There's a green light coming from the tree hole!" Nita shouts happily. 

"We found it!" the boy cries. "Thank you, Nita! I hope you will visit my planet someday. "

"I' ll build a spaceship and fly to see you one day, " Nita says as she waves goodbye. 

One morning, as the fox was walking through the woods looking for something to eat, he saw a crow（乌鸦）on a tree branch. And the crow held a piece of meat in her mouth. This1 the fox's attention. 

"There is no need to spend2 time, " thought the fox. "Here is my breakfast. "

Olivia and I worked in our school newspaper The Beacon and we were1 there. With fewer readers reading the newspaper, how to make it popular again became our headache.

Are we alone in the universe? How can we know if there is life out there in space? Just as the famous scientist Carl Sagan said, "Where there's water, there might be life." We've searched for water on many other planets, especially on Mars.

In 1877, Schiaparelli watched Mars and noticed some lines. Some people believed the lines could be man-made rivers and life on Mars built them. Then, in 1964, NASA sent Mariner 4 to take photos of Mars. Yet there was nothing to see on the planet, just a cold and dry wasteland.

This didn't stop people's interest. Scientists decided to find out if there was once life on Mars. In 2004, NASA's two rovers(探测器), Spirit and Opportunity, found white lines on rocks from different places on Mars. It showed that perhaps water moved through the ground before. In 2013, another rover, Curiosity, found 2% of water in the soil (土壤) on Mars.

The discoveries were encouraging. However, they were still not enough to show there was life on Mars. These days a Chinese research team opened new doors, After China's Zhurong rover reached Mars on May 22nd, 2021, the team studied the area around the rover's landing place. They found special layers (层) of rocks. The layers looked a lot like those near the earth's coastlines. This finding has been the biggest so far. It shows there was a sea on Mars a long time ago!

The discovery makes people believe that Mars was once warm, wet and habitable. To make Mars a good place to live again, scientists can study how it changed from warm and wet to cold and dry. Now, China is planning to send astronauts to Mars. We are the ones who will go on writing the history. Was there life on Mars? What surprising facts will be discovered next? Let's wait and see!

I remember lying on the grass and counting stars with my parents when I was a child. My life was full of fun then. However, children today are busy with schoolwork or they are glued to their screens. In fact, there are many cool new hobbies for them to see the outside world. Let's take a look!

Why not stay away from screens and give one of these unusual hobbies a try? They might become your new favourite source of happiness.

I'm a traveller in the sky. The wind is my guide, and it takes me on journeys. Right now, as the morning light passes through my body, I'm flying above the mountains of Zhangjiajie.

The rock called Qiankun Column catches my eye first. It's aboutIS0metreshigh-sohigh that I can touch it! Its special shape also surprises me一It's like a huge stone sword（石剑)pointing to the sky. Below, there are many trees around so the rock stands out more.

I move on and see Gold Whip Stream. It goes through a large forest and people say it's home to all kinds of birds. Look! There's a golden pheasant（红腹锦鸡)！It's looking at itself in the water! Its body is a mix of bright rod gold yellow and green. The beautiful colours make the water even livelier.

When the moon climb sever the mountains, it's time for me to leave Zhangjiajie. However will never forget this magical land-its sights, its animals and its culture.
