Choosing your future career isn't always easy. For teenagers in middle schools, it is important to have a general idea of what my future job is. Here are some tips to help you make the decision. 

Don't let other people decide what you should do.

Sometimes adults may want you to become a doctor, or work in bank, or be a teacher. Listen to them, but remember it's your life and it's your decision. 

Consider what you are good at.

It's true that things like money are important, but don't let them lead you down the wrong path. Follow your heart and your characters.  If you don't like work which needs lots of attention, think long and hard before you decide to do something like applying to study engineering at university. 

 They start a job, love it at once and stick at it. But it isn't always like that. So remember you are allowed to change your mind. It's not necessary to worry for years. Your first decision isn't forever. Maybe the right job for you is right around the corner!

Some people choose their career simply because they think they'll make huge lots of money. OK, if that is what you want. However, in general people are pleased with their career when they feel they are doing something valuable for others. It doesn't have to be voluntary work.  Just don't forget, money is not everything. 

Looking at the undone homework on his desk always makes David Grey aged 15 feel uncomfortable. After 7 pm, David leaves his homework behind and surfs the Internet for more than 2 hours instead, waiting until the last minute. Do you have the same experience?

Everyone procrastinates (拖延) because they want to feel good now. The way to do that is to avoid the task. You can procrastinate on nearly anything, even enjoyable tasks such as planning a vacation. Research has shown that the top tasks young people procrastinate are studying and going to bed. "One big cause for procrastination( 拖 延 症 ) is that people are afraid of failure, of not meeting others ' expectations, " Professor Peter Stone says. 

Professor Stone did a study in 2022, asking procrastinators to finish a task before bedtime at night. The results showed that they did worse than non-procrastinators: they made more mistakes and they took longer. However, they thought they did better. Even, the procrastination led to sleeplessness, which caused many other health problems for them. 

For those who need some drives to stop procrastinating, the best advice might be to take action first. If you've been procrastinating on forming a habit of exercise, just put on your walking shoes. A little bit of progress will get you moving. 

Next, find something to help you remember to take action. If you want to go to bed at 10:30 pm, you might turn the lights down at 10 pm. When the lights are dim（昏暗）, you'll start going to bed. It works for most people. 

Finally, reward yourself every time you make progress. For example, after you've run 3 km, enjoy your favourite ice-cream. But be careful: it won't work the other way around. 

"Who did this?" asked my teacher. Thirty children tried to think about not only what they had done, but also what our teacher might have found out. The class was silent(寂静的). 

"Who did this?" she asked again. She never became angry, but she was this time. She held up a piece of broken glass to show us that she had already known what happened.

My teacher went to one of our bookshelves and took down a book. She then began walking towards my desk. I had never known my teacher to hit a student, but I feared she was going to start with me. 

"I know how you like birds, " she said as she stood looking down at my face. "Here is the field guide about birds that you always check out from our school library. It is yours now. We have got a new one for the school. You will not be punished(惩罚) . But remember, it's only for your honesty. "

I couldn't believe it! I wasn't being punished and I was getting my own bird field guide, the one that I had been saving up all my money to buy. 

Have you ever imagined living on the sea? This idea could soon come true. The Maldives（马尔代夫）is building the world's first floating city and plans to complete it in 2027. 

The city is like a man-made island. People will live on floating platforms ( 平 台 ). These platforms are connected and placed along a hexagonal grid (六角网格). Natural coral reefs (珊瑚礁) will be grown around the city to stop the floating city from moving around, so people who live here won't feel seasick. 

People will live a self-sufficient life in the floating city. Electricity will be powered by solar energy. Sewage (污水) will be treated there. Also, the island is not far away from land. It takes only 10 minutes to travel by boat between there and the capital of the Maldives. 

Cool as it seems, the city is designed to solve problems. The Maldives is one of the world's lowest-lying countries. Most of its islands including the capital stand about only 1 meter above sea level. And now climate change has brought a big problem – the rising sea level. According to CNN, 80 percent of the country's land area will be under the sea by the end of the century. 

"We all know, the Maldives is special and it attracts visitors from all of the world. In the Maldives, we cannot stop the waves, but we can rise with them, " Mohamed Nasheed, former president of the country, told Newsweek magazine. 

Back in New York, I am fighting fires as the captain helper of a volunteer fire company. I still remember my first fire. I was the 1 volunteer there at that time. The captain was talking with the homeowner, who was surely having one of the worst 2 of her life. At midnight, she was 3 outside in the pouring rain, under an umbrella, barefoot, while her house was in fire. 

The other two volunteers, who had arrived just before me, were asked to go inside and4 the homeowner's dog. The captain then waved me over. He said, "Bezos, l need you to go upstairs and get this woman a pair of5 . " So, not exactly what I was hoping for, but I went up the stairs, past the "real" firefighters, who nearly finished putting out the fire at this point, into the master bedroom to get her shoes. 

Now I know what you're thinking, but I'm no hero. (Laughter). 6 the other volunteers were with the precious dog, I got the shoes. We took our "treasures" outside hurriedly to the7 homeowner to cheer her up. Not surprisingly, theirs received much more attention than mine. 

A few weeks later, the company received a letter from the homeowner to 8 us for saving her home. She remembered that the act of kindness9 all others was that someone had even gotten her a pair of shoes, which made her full of warmth.

Have you ever watched a mother cat with her kittens?  The mother cat keeps her babies safe so that they can grow up to be big cats.

What does a mother cat do to protect her kittens? First, she chooses a safe place and builds a comfortable nest there.  After that, the mother cat stays close to them to keep them safe and warm.

Growing kittens still need their mother's protection. Even when people just want to play with the babies, the mother cat might think they're dangerous and try to guard her kittens. Kittens may also bite and scratch to protect themselves. 

A bottle of water may not be so important to you, but it can save the day for people who live in drought-hit (遭受旱灾) areas in China. 

Some places in southwest China have gone through a serious drought for the past few months. Rice and vegetables are dying, the ground is cracked, and wells and rivers are drying up. More than 20 million people are having difficulty finding safe drinking water. 

However, many people are helping out by giving water, money, and other things to those in need. For example, 900 students in Xi'an bought over 1,000 bottles of water with their pocket money and wrote wishes on the bottles like "I hope you get more rain there. I hope you are happy. "

The drought has made some students realize how important it is to save water. Students in Huizhou went on the street to encourage others to take part in water-saving activities. One student said, "I heard that some children in drought-hit areas don't have enough drinking water. They have to drink dirty water. I feel really sad about that. " That's why he decided to take shorter showers only twice a week to save water. 

Water is valuable. We should all do our parts to save water by turning off the tap when we don't use it, fixing broken taps, and taking shorter showers. Every little bit helps!

Do you have a favorite place— a place with family and relatives (亲戚), good weather and fun things to do? I'm glad I have. New Jersey (新泽西) is my favorite place. Why do I like it? There are many reasons (原因).

The first reason is my family and relatives. Half (一半) of my relatives live in New Jersey. When I visit them, my cousins and I play games and have fun together all day. My uncles and aunts like taking me to the park. There we can ride roller coasters (过山车) and play in the water. We all feel happy.

The second reason is the weather. It is not hot, and it's always cool. When I think about my visits to New Jersey, I can just feel the little wind (风) in my hair. It's so great to stay (待) there.

The third reason is catching crabs (捕蟹). We keep the blue crabs and the snow crabs, and we let the others go. My cousin catches a crab. It is so big that it can't get out of the crab bag!

For all these reasons, New Jersey is my favorite place.
