How can you remember a song for a long time? Why does your teacher use songs to teach you English? There is a scientific reason for this.

Researchers (研究者) are studying the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language. "Singing could be a new way of learning, especially for a foreign language. The brain likes to remember things in a catchy (悦耳易记的) and relaxing way. For example, children can remember difficult words quickly when they are in a song," said Dr. Karen Ludke. If children find it difficult to learn foreign languages, this new way may help. On his blog (博客), Dr. Ludke wrote, "A listen-and-repeat singing way can help to learn foreign languages and open the door for future research in this area."

Many language teachers know the importance of music and they often use it in teaching and learning. Hua Zhuying, a teacher at a Chinese language school in Washington D.C., likes using songs in teaching Chinese. She said, "I use music all the time to teach children Chinese. For little kids, we usually use English songs but teach themthe Chinese lyrics. Not only does it work, but it is fun for children. Sometimes I think if I learned English that way when I was young, maybe I could speak English much better."

Our brain likes music in learning languages, especially for remembering. If you are still having problems in learning a language, why not try singing it out?

Mooncakes are an essential (重要的) part of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Each year, bakers create millions of these desserts so people can share them with friends and family. But where did this tradition come from?

About 650 years ago, the Mongols ruled (统治) over China. The Han people wanted to get back control. However, they did not want the Mongols to catch them. So, they began passing secret messages inside of mooncakes, saying that they were going to fight the Mongols on the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival. When the evening arrived, the Han people fought hard and were successful.

Each year after that, people celebrated the victory by eating mooncakes. It is a good way to remember the history. The practice spread quickly throughout China. Gradually, eating mooncakes became a cultural tradition. It is also a good chance for Chinese families to get together for family reunion (团聚).

Today, people can buy all different types of mooncakes. They come with different fillings and in different prices. People enjoy filling up with these tasty treats, but many of them don't know the history of the simple mooncakes.

Whenever he is on the basketball court, NBA, player Russell Westbrook always wears two bracelets (手环): one with "KB3" on it and the other with "Why not?".

KB3 stands for his childhood best friend Khelcey Barrs III. The two played basketball together from a very young age. They dreamed of being teammates in college. But Barrs had a serious heart disease. During a game in 2004, he suddenly passed out and never woke up.

That's when the 15-year-old Westbrook became a man. He decided to work harder so he wouldn't let his friend down. He was often the first one to arrive at the court and the last to leave.

Barrs' death started a fire in Westbrook. He saw how short life can be and decided that he would never again question himself. So he wears "Why not?" to tell himself never to give up, no matter how hard life is.

Now, through his hard work, Westbrook has become one of the best players in the NBA. He made history by becoming the first player to have a triple-double (三双) average for the season for the second year in a row. He didn't let his friend down.
