Cooking way:

To make daoxiao noodles, hold the dough in one hand, and use a knife in the other hand to slice the noodles into a pot of boiling water. 

Story behind the dish:

During the Yuan Dynasty, people in Shanxi couldn't use metal wares(金属制品), including knives for cooking.  They had to take turns(轮流) to use the knife when making dinner. 

One day, a wife asked her husband to borrow the knife so that she could make noodles. At the time, the knife was being used by another family. So the man had to return home and wait. On the way back, the man found a thin piece of sheet iron(一片薄铁皮). 

When he returned home, the water was boiling. The man felt worried coming back without the knife. All of a sudden, he thought of the sheet iron. 

"No, I can't, " his wife said. The man told her to slice the dough instead of cutting it. Holding the dough and the sheet iron, the wife sliced the dough into the boiling water. The moment the family took their first bite, they were surprised at how chewy(耐嚼的) the noodles were. 

How do people make daoxiao noodles? (不超过15词) 

Billy always loved blueberries. They were his favourite fruit. He was going to make juice with his uncle. His uncle liked to make juice out of everything. He made apple juice, vegetable juice, and more juices. He had never made blueberry juice before though!

First, Billy and his uncle went to a blueberry farm. They were each given a basket. They picked for an hour and got several pounds. It was hard work picking the little berries from the trees. Now Billy understood why they were expensive in the store. 

Next, they had to wash the fruit. Some of them still had leaves. Those had to be pulled off. Then the bad berries had to be thrown away. They washed the berries and made them dry. 

After that, they pushed the blueberries through a strainer(滤器). The strainer caught most of the seeds and skins, and only left a small glass of dark purple juice to them. 

When they tasted the juice, it wasn't very sweet. Billy's uncle didn't want to add sugar to the juice. It was better to use a naturally sweet juice, like apple juice, pear juice, or grape juice. They used grape juice as a sweetener(甜味剂), because grapes had a similar colour to the blueberries. 

Finally, they could drink it. It was a lot of work to make juice, but it was refreshing!

Sami's grandpa lived near the sea. Tall trees stood by the seaside. Sami loved to visit him and play the birds in the trees. For Sami, it was interesting (spend) the holiday in Grandpa's village. 

Sami couldn't believe his eyes he came to Grandpa's village this summer. Many people cut down (they) trees to make    tables, chairs and beds. Grandpa was different. He never cut down his trees. 

One night, Sami (hear) a strange sound. Suddenly, the ground shook. He got up and ran to Grandpa. "It's an earthquake" Grandpa said. They ran out of house. However, the sea began to roar(咆哮). People in the village shouted and cried while they were running away. 

The waves(海浪) were rising higher and (high).  Grandpa and Sami (climb) to the top of the house. They found water coming into their house (quick). 

Later, the wave went back. Soon it was quiet all around. After that, the villagers never cut down trees  they knew the importance of protecting trees.
