This is a true story.  young man worked in a big building. One day, while he  (take) the lift(电梯) , it suddenly stopped and he had to wait for hours. An old man who worked in the lift spoke to him, " 5 years, I've been listening to you as you ride my lift. All you talk about is money and how to make  (much) money than before. You remind me of bees(蜜蜂) because they never stop working."

January 20, 2025, a Chinese tech company named DeepSeek made a new AI called DeepSeek-R1. This smart program can solve math problems, write code, and answer questions like top models such as OpenAI's GPT-4, but it costs much less to build. The team spent only $5. 58 million (1/70 of OpenAI's cost) and used 2,048 computer chips for two months. This shows that good ideas can beat big money. 

DeepSeek-R1 learns by trying many times and getting better, like how students practice maths. Other AIs need lots of prepared examples, but R1 improves by itself. For example, in a global math test, it got 79.8% right, slightly higher than Open AI's model. A simple version of R1 can even run on low-cost computers, helping schools and small companies. 

DeepSeek-R1 is free to use and change. On its first day online, over 19,000 programmers worldwide started projects to study it. A German scientist said experiments with R1 cost 10 instead of 300 with other AIs. Even Meta (a famous U.S. tech company) top scientist said, "This kind of free AI could change the world."

US tech companies are worried. Meta plans to spend over $65 billion on AI research. Experts say China is catching up fast. A report in Nature magazine called R1 a "big step forward", proving that smart ideas beat expensive tools. 

As a DeepSeek engineer said, "We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use." With R1, China shows the world that great things come from new ideas and hard work, not just money. 

How was your sleep last night? World Sleep Day fell on March 17th this year. The topic was "sleep is important for health". How can we have healthy sleep? Take a look at some tips.

First, wake up naturally. Waking up to a ringing alarm is never fun. Studies showed that when you wake up because of a loud alarm, your breathing will go up from 16 to 24 breaths a minute. Your heart will have 10 more beats every minute. Your blood pressure (血压) will rise.

Once a tortoise (乌龟) and two swans (天鹅) lived by a lake. They were very good friends. They spent many hours happily together.

To their bad luck, there was no rain that year. The lake became dry. So they had to leave the lake to look for another place to live.

A Meaningful Vacation The summer vacation is coming soon. 

Zhang Guimei，the principal （校长） of Huaping High School for Girls，has been given the honorary title （荣誉称号） "Role Model of the Times" for girls from poor families. 

The school was the first high school in the country to free education for girls who would otherwise （不然） have been to continue their studies after completing their nine years of education. 

Zhang to Lijiang when she was 17 to teach in the middle school in Huaping. Once，she got ill but had no money for the treatment （治疗）.  the help of the people there，she got the necessary treatment. "From then on，I told that I must do something for those people who helped me，" Zhang said.
