In the 17th century, Isaac Newton spent his life (work) out many laws of physics. He wanted to find out how things worked. For him, the world was his laboratory (实验室) in those early days of science.
For a long time, he had been working on the "laws of motion". One lucky day, as he was sitting in his study at his mother's country home, he looked out over the yard. The apple trees were (fill) with ripe, red apples.
As he sat there thinking, he (notice) an apple falling from the tree. Apples fall from trees all the time. They even fall and hit people on the head. But Isaac Newton's falling apple was no ordinary apple. And
Newton was no ordinary man.
He saw (much) than an apple falling from a tree. As he watched the apple hit the ground, he asked (he) some simple questions: Why did that apple fall straight down? Why did it not fall sideways?
Why did it not fall, towards the sky, instead of down, towards the (central) of the earth?
With these simple questions, Newton discovered gravity. More correctly, he discovered how gravity works.
Scientists could now understand the moon was held in orbit (轨道) around the earth. Gravity explained why people did not fall off the face of the earth.

Some parents think children should play a lot in their childhood. However, some parents think children should learn more useful things. They teach their children to do chores by themselves early. What are chores?
Chores are things we need to do every day like washing the dishes and sweeping the floor. Here are some benefits (益处) that helping out with chores will bring to children.
First, doing chores teaches children life skills (技 能 ). Children will need to do many hard things by themselves one day, so they should learn more life skills as early as possible. Doing chores like cooking, feeding pets and cleaning the house can help them become more independent and teach them how to solve problems.
Second, doing chores helps children learn to respect (尊敬) others. If children are asked to clean up the house, they may know better about the mess they make. And they will respect others' work more.
Third, doing chores helps children be better at making plans and organizing their time. There are a lot of things to do every day, and it's hard to fit them all in.
