Do you have fun at school?

Most students have 10-minute breaks between classes. They can do some exercise, talk with each other and relax during the time. To give students a real rest, some schools begin to give another five minutes for break time between classes from this term. And each school should have a 30-minute big break both in the morning and in the afternoon. To help students use their break time better, many schools are working hard. For example, Dianchanglu Middle School makes a climbing wall for its students. Huashi Middle School holds an art show in the hallway. Students can enjoy great paintings during the break.

Also, to make the students' school life colorful and meaningful. some schools have a "classroom farm" for students to grow vegetables and have interesting classes. Students use the farm to learn different things in different classes. They study different parts of plants such as the leaves, flowers and fruits in the Biology class. They draw beautiful pictures of the plants in the Art class. And they also write about the plants on the farm in their Chinese class. Sometimes they take pictures of the plants. Then, they share them on the school website!

In the school of the future, students will have something great.

First, the classrooms will be different.  There will be chairs and tables and they can move around easily. This way, students can work in groups or by themselves according to the activity.

  They don't need to do lots of exercises. They will learn by doing projects and working out problems. They can work on building a robot or a small garden at school.  Students can choose different learning time on their own. It will help them to enjoy subjects they are really interested in and take breaks when they need them.

Outdoor places will be an important part of the school.  This will help students enjoy fresh air and exercise. It can bring them good health and happiness.

  This will help every student to do their best and prepare for an exciting future.

These days, the Night School for Youths in Wuhan is very popular. Many young people attend it. It has a lot of classes, like make-up, African drumming and calligraphy. 

Cheng Weihong is a calligraphy teacher at the night school. He has over 20 years of teaching experience (经验). According to Cheng, most of his students are young women in their 20s and 30s. "I'm glad that young people want to learn calligraphy and learn more about traditional Chinese culture," he said.

All the students at the night school have day jobs. Zhang Cheng is one of them. She spends many hours teaching at school before coming here as a student in the evening. Zhang tries many classes. She is happy to meet a group of people with the same interests as her. 

Learning at the night school is meaningful. It helps young people learn new skills and make new friends.

Many of today's stars started their careers (职业) in school talent shows—Madonna, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake all showed their skills early in life. Though you're not Justin Bieber, you can become a star in your own right at your middle school talent show.

My First Day at Junior High

When I walked into Sunshine Junior High on September 1st, my heart was beating fast. This was the start of my new school life. A teacher with kind eyes greeted me at the gate. "Welcome! I am Ms. Lee, your homeroom teacher," she said. Her warm smile made me feel less nervous.

In our first class, Ms. Lee explained the school rules. "Being polite is very important," she told us. She asked us to always say "please" and "thank you". I wrote this down in my notebook because I wanted to remember it.

Later, we visited the library. A librarian showed us how to find books. When I asked about a science magazine, she answered patiently, "Its name is Discovery. Its covers are blue." Her help gave me confidence to ask more questions.

At lunchtime, I sat with two new classmates. They shared their sandwiches with me. "This is our school tradition—sharing food," one girl said. I thanked them and gave them some of my apples.

In the afternoon, we learned the school motto: "Learn and Grow". Ms. Lee asked, "What's the meaning of this motto?" A boy raised his hand and answered, "It means we should keep learning new things every day." His answer helped me understand better.

When the bell rang at 4 PM, I realized how quickly the day passed. My new schoolbag felt heavier with books, but my heart felt lighter. Junior high isn't just about studying—it's about growing with others.

Canadian teens go to a university to learn woodwork and other skills

Recently, middle school students from Kingston, Canada, had a great time at Queen's University. They learned many trade skills (技工技能) there, reported Global News. 

It was the first year of the Tricolour Tech program (项目) at the school. This program gives students a chance (机会) to work with their hands. 

Diyar Ali, a 14-year-old boy, shared his love for making things. "During the week, I made a catapult (弹弓) with wood and a paper cup."

"My dad was a builder. I want to be like him," Ali said. He wants to do welding (焊工) in the future after taking welding courses.

Educator Scott Darling was there to help the kids. She taught them skills and also learned from the students. "The students do teamwork. They are very kind to help each other," she said.

Keeling's daughter is a sports player. To help her mother out of her dark cloud, she asked her mother to take up running, not just slow running around the neighborhood, but professional running. At the time, Ida Keeling was 67.

Keeling hadn't done any running for many years. Why did she decide to do such a great thing? She really wanted to do something new so she decided to give it a try. She would laterrecall that her first running was wonderful. "I just forgot all my bad things," she said. Although it was hard at first, Keeling didn't give up. Running needs great endurance (耐力). And over time, her skills got better, so running became less difficult. She went on breaking records (记录) in the 60-meter running race in the 95-99 age group and set a record in the 100 meters for runners over 100 years old. "No one believed I could," she says, "I was just exercising and now I'm famous all over the world."

When she's not running, she's working out. She goes to the gym for exercise three to four days a week, such as running, dancing and bike riding. She even finds ways to exercise while cooking. She wrote a book about her life story. She believes that every day is another day.
