One center in Thailand cares for these elephants. It provides a safe and natural living space for them. When they are at the center, they stay in a building but are free to walk around. Students come from all over the world to help there. The students work with the elephant keepers and help them train elephants. These keepers teach the students how to care for the elephants. In the morning, they go to the forest together and lead the elephants to the center. They clean them and give them food. In the afternoon, they take the animals back into the forest for the night. Helping at the center is interesting and the young people learn a lot. 

As the strong winds blow across Yulong Snow Mountain in Yunnan Province, Lyu Haowei starts his work at an altitude (海拔) of around 4,500meters. His job is to clean a beautiful tourist area that many people visit. 

Carrying a 150-meter safety rope (绳), a clamp (夹钳) and a rubbish bag, Lyu carefully makes his way up the mountain. He uses the rope to reach some dangerous areas where rubbish has been left behind. While he collects the waste, his workmates help him by holding the safety rope and telling him the directions. As he deals with challenges like thin air and heavy rain, Lyu also must be careful about the ice below him and the sheer cliffs (陡峭的悬崖) around. 

Yulong Snow Mountain is well-known for its amazing natural beauty. Lots of people from across the country and around the world come to visit it every year. However, this brings a big problem-lots of rubbish, During busy tourist times, like the National Day holiday, cleaners can fill nearly 200 rubbish bags a day. After it has been picked up, the rubbish will be packed and moved down the mountain. Their long working day starts early at5:30 a. m. to welcome the first visitors wanting to see the sunrise and ends late at 7:30 p. m. after a day of tiring work.

Blue is a very common color in our lives—the sky, the sea and even face masks are often blue. But this color is not frequently (经常) seen in plants. Why is that?

There is no true blue pigment (色素) in nature. When light hits an object (物体), the object absorbs (吸收) some colors and reflects (反射) others. For example, plants look green because they reflect green light and absorb other colors. Blue light offers more energy than other colors. However, if a plant has blue leaves, according to scientists from the University of Adelaide in Australia, it must absorb (吸收) very small amounts of energy while reflecting high-energy blue light. This is not a good strategy (策略) for growth. 

Less than 10 percent of plants are blue. Plants make blue flowers by mixing pigments. For example, anthocyanins (花青素) can turn into a blue-like color with a certain amount of acidity (酸度). Plants may make use of this unique color to attract pollinators (传粉者), such as bees.

There are people who are blind to certain colors. Human color blindness is hard to explain. In a single eye, there are millions of very small things called "cones (视锥细胞)". They help us to see in bright light and to tell the difference between colors. There are also millions of "rods", but they are used for seeing when it is nearly dark. They show us the shape but not the color. 

Do color blind people see the world in black and white? Color blindness doesn't usually mean that people see the world like an old movie. They usually can't tell certain colors from each other, especially green and red. Another commonly confused (弄混的) pair of colors is yellow and blue. There are different levels of color blindness. Some people are only colorblind in low light. However, in the most serious form of color blindness, everything is gray. 

As for some birds, some of their eyes have few or no cones, so they can not see colors. Cats and dogs cannot see colors as well as we can. But some insects can even see X-rays. Scientists know that there are other colors around us which insects can see, but which we can not see.
