Do you know what family instructions (家il) are? They are common beliefs (信念) that family members follow, In ancient China, people passed down their family instructions from generation (一代) to generation. Some schools in Zhejiang are encouraging students to learn more about their own family instructions. It is a part of'students' winter vacation homework to learn about their family instructions.
Mèng Yao, 16, from Hangzhou Xuejun High School, looked at her family instructions. One of them is "don'take the wrong way", a piece of advice that has been passed down for 100 years. Her father told her how her grandfather stuck to (坚持) his "right way" to become an engineer. "It inspired (激励) me to go after what I love, she said. This family instruction not only gives her courage for her future but also helps her see her family's values.
Shen Duaniie,14, from Hangzhou Gongyi Middle School, has also benefited from his family instruction-"democratic and equal!"("民主、平等"),. It teaches him to respect and understand his parents, and his parents do the same for him. It helps him get along well with his parents.
The school has also published books of family instructions. The Family Instructions of Zhu Xi and Family. Instructions of Yan Clan(《颜氏家训》). The books include short conversations and pictures drawn by students.
Gong Zhenyue,14, drew pictures for one of the books. She was moved by one instruction. It says that parents should not only love their children, but also educate them, "It made me understand why my parents are strict with me, she said. She made it her own family instruction.
From these stories, we can see that learning about family instructions helps young students in two important ways. First, it allows them to understand their parents' love and the reasons behind their strictness (严格). Second, it provides (提供) guidance (指导) and inspiration (激励) for their own growth and future.
Also, Gong Zhenyue agreed with another instruction from a book-"Parents must set a good example for their kids in the first place (起初) so that kids will follow".
(1)、Did all the students in Zhejiang have to learn about their family instructions?(2)、What are family instructions?(3)、What can the three students get from their family instructions in common?(4)、If you are asked to make a family instruction for your family, what will it be and why? Coral reefs (珊瑚礁) grow best in warm, shallow waters around the world, especially the Pacific Ocean, the coastal waters of South—East Asia, the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean.
Why do we need them?
Some people call coral reefs the "rainforests of the sea", because, like rainforests, they contain an amazing number of different sea animals.
事实上,珊瑚礁是海洋中超过百分之二十五的生物的家。They're not only important to sea life but also important to millions of people. Coral reefs are an important source of food and even medicine, and they're also important for the tourist industry.

Why are they in danger?
世界上一半以上的珊瑚礁处于危险之中——这主要是因为人类的活动。Overfishing destroys the balance of the nature system, and many fishing methods harm the coral itself. Air pollution leads to climate change, which can cause sea surface temperature to rise, and the coral will die if the temperature doesn't soon return to normal. Oil from ships is deadly to sea life, and the waste water from factories is dangerous to sea life, too.
What can we do?
减少空气污染可以帮助保护我们的星球,包括珊瑚礁。Several countries have laws to protect reefs, and other countries can do the same. With today's technology, we can even repair endangered reefs and help new ones to grow.
(1)、事实上,珊瑚礁是海洋中超过百分之二十五的生物的家。(2)、Coral reefs are an important source of food and even medicine, and they're also important for the tourist industry.(3)、世界上一半以上的珊瑚礁处于危险之中——这主要是因为人类的活动。(4)、Air pollution leads to climate change, which can cause sea surface temperature to rise, and the coral will die if the temperature doesn't soon return to normal.(5)、减少空气污染可以帮助保护我们的星球,包括珊瑚礁。
