"As dead as a doo doo" is an old saying. But what does it mean? Long ago, people used "doo doo" to talk about a kind of bird called the dodo (渡渡鸟).

The dodo lived on an island called Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. It was a big bird, but it couldn't fly. The dodo had no natural enemies on the island, so it lived a peaceful life.

Then, people came to the island. They brought dogs, pigs, and monkeys with them. These animals ate the dodo's eggs. People also cut down trees where the dodo lived. As a result, the number of dodos became smaller and smaller.

Sadly, the last dodo died in the 17th century. Now, we can only see pictures of dodos in books or museums. The saying "as dead as a doo doo" tells us something is completely gone or extinct. We should learn from this story and protect the animals that are still alive today. 

Pigeons are common birds in cities. Some people love them, but others don't like them at all. For me, pigeons are amazing birds.

First, pigeons are very smart. They can recognize themselves in mirrors. They can also find their way home from very far away. People once used pigeons to send messages a long time ago because of this special ability.

Second, pigeons have beautiful feathers. Some pigeons are white, some are gray, and some have colors like purple and green. When they fly in groups, it looks really wonderful.

However, some people think pigeons are boring and dirty. They say pigeons leave droppings everywhere. But I think if we keep our cities clean and give pigeons enough food, these problems can be solved. Pigeons make our cities more lively.

Do you know any amazing animals? The platypus (鸭嘴兽) is one of the most unusual animals in the world. It has a bill (喙) like a duck, webbed feet (蹼足), and lays eggs. But it also has fur and feeds its babies with milk, just like other mammals (哺乳动物).

Scientists were very surprised when they first saw a platypus. They thought someone was playing a joke on them! The platypus lives in Australia. It spends most of its time in the water, looking for food such as insects and small fish. When it swims, it closes its eyes, ears, and nose. It uses special senses to find food in the water.

The platypus is a shy animal. It usually comes out at night. People are trying to protect this amazing animal because its living places are getting smaller and smaller.

One sunny afternoon, a young boy named Tom went to the park with his dog, Max. Max was not just an ordinary dog; he was very special. 

As they walked around the park, Tom decided to play a game of fetch. He threw a ball far away. Max ran1 to get it. Suddenly, Tom heard a cry for help. A little girl had fallen into a small 2 in the park. 

Tom was too scared to do anything. But Max didn't 3 a second. He quickly jumped into the water. The little girl was 4 , and the water was cold. Max swam to her and 5 her back to the bank.

People around were 6 at what Max did. The girl's parents were so 7 that they thanked Max again and again. From that day on, everyone in the park knew that Max was a 8 .
