Scientists have found that plants can make sounds. 

A scientist Lily Hadany and her team recorded（录制）tomato plants at different times. It showed that the plants made ultrasonic（超声波）sounds. Humans could only hear them with the help of a computer. They were noises like clicking（哒声）sounds. 

As the scientists studied the sounds, they began to find some interesting facts. Plants made different sounds at different times. They hardly clicked when they had enough water, but as the earth got drier, they clicked more and more. Scientists also found that plants made sounds when they got hurt. When scientists cut off a leaf from the plants, the plants also clicked more. But the clicking wasn't the same as when the plants needed water. 

Some scientists trained a computer AI system to identify（辨别）the different kinds of clicking sounds. It was able to find the difference between plants that needed water and plants with cuts. It means that one day we may be able to use these sounds to figure out when it is in difficult time, and what problem it is having. That could be very helpful to farmers. 

The team's finding changes our ideas about plants. As Dr. Hadany says, "Even in a quiet field, there are sounds made by plants, and those sounds carry information and may help us a lot. "

In children's eyes, mothers are perfect. In my mind, my mother is good at doing everything except（除了）cooking. I still remember what happened on my father's birthday when I was young. 

For the important day, I made a birthday card and prepared a beautiful song as my gift. And my mother made a special plan. She did some cleaning early in the morning. Then she began to cook a big meal. Three hours later, we were very hungry, but there were only two dishes on the table——a seafood salad and roast duck. We all wanted to have the roast duck as soon as possible because it was our favorite. 

Unluckily, it looked terrible in color and tasted bad! I complained（抱怨）and only at c a little. However, my father didn't complain at all. Instead（反而）, he ate one more piece of the duck and smiled at my mother, "Good taste. I love it! Thank you, dear! It's the best roast duck I have ever had!" My mother smiled happily and said, " Happy birthday, my dear!"

I couldn't understand what my father said and did at that time. I thought he must have a taste problem. Ten years has passed and my father has become a 50-year-old man. He still loves the food my mother cooks, though she hasn't become a good cook yet. As time went by, I came to know that no one is perfect, including my mother. Nothing is perfect, including my family. But love can make it different. If there is love, home will become the sweetest place in the world. 

Then Alice heard some noise. She looked around and saw a mouse swimming nearby. 

" Excuse me, Mouse, " she said. " Do you know the way out of this pool?"

The Mouse looked at her, but it didn't say anything. 

" Maybe it doesn't know English, " she thought. " I' ll try French. " Alice knew only the first lesson in her French textbook, so she said that. 

"Ouest mon chat?" she asked. 

The Mouse jumped out of the water in fear（恐惧地）。

" Oh , " Alice thought. " I asked the wrong thing. I asked it where my cat is. Mice are afraid of cats. "

"I am sorry, " she said to the Mouse. "I forgot you don't like cats. "

·" Would you like cats if you were a mouse?" the Mouse said angrily. 

" Perhaps not, " Alice answered. "" But I'm sure you'd like my pet, Dinah. She's beautiful and very clever at catching . . . . . Oops! Sorry. I nearly said the wrong thing again. We won't talk about Dinah any more. What about dogs?"

But the Mouse began swimming away. 

" Come back, please, " Alice said. "I won't talk about cats or dogs any more. "

Slowly the Mouse swam back to her, 

" All right, " it said. " Come with me to the shore（岸）, and I' ll tell you why I don't like cats or dogs. " Alice swam with the Mouse to the shore. She was happy to be out of the pool, which was now full of all kinds of animals. Some of them are very strange.
