The world's funniest museum has opened in Zagreb, the capital city of Croatia. The HaHa House  its doors on January 10th, 2025, and aims to make people of all ages laugh. On arrival, visitors must first pass  the museum's "happiness scanner (扫描仪) " before they get to experience  40 other humorous areas. One of the most famous is the "Happy Portal", which takes  to the "Playground of Laughter".

Creator Andrea Golubic said the museum is her way of "spreading and connecting through laughter".

Liam was a shy boy. One day, his English teacher, Mr. Thompson, said there would be a poetry competition.

"Liam, you should enter," Mr. Thompson 1 after class.

Dog Days: Thank you for meeting with us on such a busy day. We can't wait to meet your dog. 

Mary Fineday: Sure. I'm brushing Anna, my dog. Her golden fur (皮毛) can easily get dirty when she runs around. I want to make sure she looks perfect for the competition.

Mary Fineday: She's three and a half years old, and we've raised her from the day she was born. She eats the finest cuts of meat and exercises on a track (轨道) that was built just for her.

Dog Days: Does Anna enjoy the dog show as much as you do?

Mary Fineday: Anna has a great time. She loves the attention and the chance to show her skills. She's trained to run and jump at exactly the right time. She knows she'll get a prize if she does well.

Li Cuili, a farmer from a village in Henan Province, was thought to be a strange woman when she decided to open a library at her store, providing books for villagers to read for free in 2008.

That idea first came from a mother's love for her child. That year, she watched a show in her village with her son. To her surprise, the show was vulgar (低俗的) and awful for children. Feeling worried that children would grow up in such an environment, she wanted to change the situation and began to offer books to villagers.

At the very beginning, no villager came forward. Li decided to interest children first. She offered sugar to children who came to read, borrow books and write book reviews. In this way, more and more children came. Their parents were surprised to discover children behaved much better than before as they went to Li's library to read at once after school. Then villagers began to speak highly of Li's efforts and offer support, and many of them began to borrow books as well and worked as volunteers at the library in their free time. Villagers have seen Li's library grow from a small space with only 200 books to a village cultural center, with a collection of 5, 000-6, 000books.

With the growing popularity of her library, Li met a new problem-she could not get enough books. When she went out to get books in different ways, some people pointed at her and badmouthed her. She started to doubt whether it was meaningful.    ▲    Once, Li asked Liu Caijin, one of her readers, what she wanted to become in the future. To her surprise, Liu thanked her a lot and said, "I want to open a book store, providing books for people to read for free, just like you." Li was deeply moved and decided to keep on.

Li named the library Weiguang, which means"dim (微弱 ) light". "It is only about putting several books on the shelves of a village store. It was nothing big at first. Yet, no matter how dim the light, it has the power to keep the fire burning. The library has turned a new page for the children in my village, " says Li.

Wake up early enough and, depending on where you are, you'll likely hear a pleasant chorus of birds chirping (叽叽喳喳) their tiny hearts out. It's natural to hear that in the early morning, but why?

According to the Woodland Trust, this early singing is known as the dawn chorus, and it can start as early as 4 a.m. and last for several hours. Birds do it to get mates (配偶) and warn other birds to keep away. One opinion as to why they choose to communicate these important messages in early morning is because it's too dark to do other bird activities. Instead of looking for food outside, they turn to sing.

Some believe that birds use the morning singing to show they're strong and full of power. By singing with happiness, they're letting other birds know they survived the night—no easy job in nature—and would make for an excellent mate.

Like a good recording studio, the early morning hours also allow birds to produce a clear sound thanks to the cooler, drier air. Because birds have their own special sounds, that helps other birds within listening distance tell who they are easily.

There used to be a popular opinion that birds sang so much in the mornings because the sounds could travel greater distances because of less atmospheric turbulence (湍流), but researchers at the University of Western Ontario proved it wrong in 2003. They played recordings of sparrows at dawn and midday. The songs didn't travel farther at dawn, but they were more consistent (连贯的).

Birds don't have a lot of energy. So it makes sense for them to sing when they're most likely to be heard. For a bird, an early morning session is like having the perfect environment for their performance.

During the busy school day, students often look forward to their 10-minutes break. It's a short time, but it can work in how they feel and how well they learn. 

After sitting in class for a long time, students' bodies and minds need a break. During the 10-minute break, students can move their legs, take a deep breath, and relax. This short break helps them feel fresh. 

The 10-minute break is also a great time for students to socialize(社交). It's a chance to catch up with friends, share stories, and laugh together. Making friends and building relationships is a key part of the school experience, and short breaks give them the chance to do just that. 

For some students, the 10-minute break is a time to prepare for the next class. They might read their notes, put their books, or ask a teacher a quick question. This short period can help them get ready for the next lesson. 

Sometimes, the 10-minute break can make students more creative. Students might come up with new ideas for a school project or write a short poem. It's amazing how a little bit of free time can unlock their imagination.

Do you find that you learn things faster than your parents sometimes? Congratulations! You could be right. Scientists have found the reason  children learn faster than adults. 

Scientists at Brown University, the US, found that school-aged children learn new knowledge and (skill) faster than grown-ups. This has something to do with a chemical (化学物质) called GABA in our brains. It reduces brain noise so that we can learn things more (easy). It also (make) new knowledge stay longer in our heads. 

The scientists scanned (扫描) the brains of children (8-11 years old) and adults (18-35 years old) before, during, and after doing  learning task. It turned out that  children learn new things, the amount of GABA rises quickly. But there's little change in adults' brains. This tells us why children are (good) learners than adults. 

The finding, the scientists said, should encourage teachers and parents (let) children learn anything  riding a bike to playing an instrument in their childhood. It could also be used to help adults learn faster by increasing the amount of GABA in (they) brains. The best way of increasing GABA is to get enough sleep and exercise. 

Working on a team is quite important. However, if people on your team are not good at communicating, you may often feel terrible. To create a successful team, good (交流) is the most necessary part for both the leaders and team (成员). The following is some helpful advice. 

◆Listen to other people actively. 

When someone is speaking to you, you're supposed to listen to him/her actively. If you're not sure about something, you should (主动提出) to ask him/her about it. In this way, you can make things (清楚的) before moving on. 

◆Think about other people's ideas carefully

When someone tells you about his/her ideas, you should think about them carefully. This shows you are (感兴趣的) and could make him/her get a feeling of (满足). 

◆Share your ideas with other people. 

When you have a new idea, talk with others (代替) of thinking by yourself. This helps to get better ideas. Besides, it also helps to improve your relationships and then you can work out all the (困难) as a team. 

◆Don't criticize(批评) other people

When someone does something (错误的), don't criticize him. You can help him to find out reasons and then help him to deal with the problem. Criticizing your teammates too often may make them keep away from you. And as a result, you may feel (孤独的) in work. 

Last Sunday while I  on the street, a foreigner stopped me to ask for directions. Although I listened to English radio quite often, I still had  understanding what the man had said. How fast he spoke! I was so excited and  that I breathed deeply before I could answer. I was afraid of  my mouth for fear that my words would not be correct, so I drew a map for him. After saying"thanks" to me, he left with the map. Everything happened within ten minutes, but I felt this short conversation  the start of a bright new world. 

It's Friday evening. My daughters sighed (叹息) when I took the iPad away from them. One by one, our screens were turned off. We lit the candles and sat down to have a big meal. 

We call it our "Technology Shabbat"(科技安息日), which lasts from sunset(日落) on Friday to sunset on Saturday. Now most friends know they will not be able to find us by using computers or mobile phones for 24 hours. 

I first understood the importance of "Technology Shabbat" in 2008, when my father had got brain cancer. Some days he would have only one good hour, and the only thing I wanted to do was to be with him. When I looked after my father, I turned off my mobile phone. Soon after that, my husband and I decided to turn off all the electronic(电子的) things for one full day every week. 

During our "Technology Shabbat", time slows down. Our Saturdays now feel like mini-vacations. We drive cars or ride bikes. We work in the garden, play board games and cook meals with our kids. I feel like a better mother, wife and person. 

Keeping a balance(平衡) between the good and the bad of technology is important for my family. The technology helps us share knowledge and funny ideas all over the world. But the technology also takes something away from us. Sometimes we stay up late at night looking through from website to website or sending messages until we have been really tired. 

Now we're rushing into the time full of high technology. We should think about what we are doing online and when we should go offline. I will always remember the most important thing in my family: Technology Shabbat. 

There was once a king who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The king looked at all the pictures, but there were only two he really liked. 

One picture is of a calm lake. The lake is a nice mirror for high mountains all around it. Overhead is a blue sky with white clouds. All the people who saw this picture thought it was a perfect picture of peace. 

The second picture has mountains too, but these mountains are rugged(崎岖的). Above the mountains is a dark sky, from which the rain falls heavily. Down the side of the mountain tumbles a waterfall. This does not look peaceful at all. But when the king looked closely, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush(灌木丛) growing in a crack(裂缝) in the rock. In the bush a mother bird has built her nest. There, in the middle of the rush of angry water sit the mother bird and her children—in perfect peace. 

In the end, the king chose the second picture. Many people didn't know why. "Because," the king answered, "peace is not being in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. Peace is even though you are in the middle of all those things, you still keep calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace. "

At the age of 19, I graduated from high school and moved to a place where it snowed often. I felt free and completely in control of my life until l knew I had bacterial meningitis(细菌性脑膜炎). 

When my parents wheeled me out of the hospital, I felt like I had been pieced back together like a doll with my "new legs". They hurt so badly that all l could think was what l could do with these things. Tears streamed down my face. I was completely emotionally(情绪上) broken. 

But I knew I had to let go of the old Amy and learn to welcome the new Amy. Four months later I was back up on a snowboard, although things didn't go quite as expected: My legs went flying down the mountain, and l was on top of the mountain still. l was so discouraged. But I knew that if I could find the right pair of legs, I would be able to do this again. And this is when I learned that problems we met would bring two kinds of results: stop us on the road or    ▲   . 

I did a year of research, but still couldn't find out what kind of legs to use, so I decided to make a pair myself. It was these legs and the best 2lst birthday gift l could ever get—a new kidney(肾) from my dad—that allowed me to follow my dreams again. 

In 2005, I founded an organization for youth and young adults with physical disabilities so they could join in sports. From there, I had the chance to go to South Africa, where I helped to put shoes on thousands of children's feet so they could go to school. With my effort, I got three World Cup gold medals which made me the highest ranked female snowboarder in the world. 

Twenty-six years ago, when I lost my legs, I had no idea what to expect. But my legs haven't disabled me. They've forced me to depend on my imagination and to believe in the possibilities, because in my mind, we can do anything and we can be anything!

At the age of thirteen, I volunteered at a local hospital in my city. I worked for about twenty to thirty 1 a week during the winter. Most of the time I spent there was with Mr. Green. He never had any visitors. 2 seemed to care about his health.
