• 1、Qingming, literally (字面上) means "clear and bright". It is one of the 24 seasonal division points in China. After the festival, the temperature rises and rainfall increases. And then farmers begin to grow crops. Qingming Festival falls on April 4 this year.

As a festival, Qingming is believed to have a history of about 2,500 years. The most important tradition of Qingming is to honor ancestors and remember the dead family members. So Qingming is also called Tomb-Sweeping Day. When sweeping the graves, people pray, clean the tombstones and burn offerings, usually paper money, paper clothes, paper houses and now even a paper phone.

Lots of ancient poets expressed their sad feelings with words. One of the most famous poems describing the festival was the poem Qingming by Du Mu of the Tang Dynasty as follows: A drizzling rain falls like tears on the Mourning Day; The mourner's heart is going to break on his way. "Where can a wine shop be found to drown my sad hours?" A cowherd points to a cot amid apricot flowers.

Some traditions of Qingming have brought such problems as traffic jams and air pollution or even forest fires. As part of a greener Qingming campaign, people have been encouraged to pay respect to their ancestors and dead family members online, or burn less or no paper money to protect the environment.

Chinese humor in English is helping the world understand Chinese culture better. It's used a lot, especially on social media. This shows that Chinglish, a mix of English and Chinese, is not always regarded as wrong now, but as a fun way to connect with others.

A popular example is a post (帖子) by a foreign blogger on a Chinese website. She talked about parting from her boyfriend. Many Chinese people left their ideas in English to comfort her, but their English wasn't perfect. So some words of kindness turned into "You pretty, he not, u swan, he frog." But others think it was fine because it was fast and convenient to write shorter words without changing the main meaning.

Chinglish even plays a part in the Oxford English Dictionary. Phrases like "add oil", meaning jiayou in Chinese and "cheer" in English, have already been in the dictionary. Similar examples also include "Long time no see". Such an act shows the phrases or words are so popular that they can't be neglected (忽视).

Chinglish is now seen in things like video games, where Chinese words are kept instead of being translated. This can be seen from the latest hot game around the world with a rich Chinese culture—Black Myth: Wukong. In it, the Chinese words like yaoguai are no longer translated into English words, but kept as they are in Chinese. And foreign players just accept them and learn them happily as part of Chinese culture. This helps people around the world learn more about China.

However, some people also show their worries. They said that Chinglish should not be used in situations like in class or at an important work meeting or discussion. It may cause misunderstanding and make others think you're impolite.

    Chinglish Connects the World

    In the past

Mixing English and Chinese used to be a.

But now the world accepts it in different ways.

    A popular example

Many Chinese use Chinglish to show their ideas on social media because it is.

    In the Oxford English Dictionary

English dictionaries accept Chinglish words like "add oil" because these words are quite.

    A opinion

Chinglish is not right for some important situations.

What do you think of Chinglish?

  • 11、Asking for advice is not so easy. In a recent study, 74 percent of people said they were afraid to ask for advice. But people who ask for advice are more likely to succeed at a task. So how do you ask for advice?

    ● Look for the best person to give you advice. It might be easy to ask all your friends on social media for advice at once, but will you value all the advice equally (同等地)? It might be better to choose one or two people whose opinions you value most. Ideally, you can ask for advice from people who have experience in the topic you're asking about.

●Provide enough information clearly. For example, imagine you can't decide how to organize a club activity. When you ask for advice, you should mention the topic, the place and the time. If your questions require a lot of thought, you should ask the person for advice when he or she is clear-headed.

●Be specific (具体的) when you ask questions. Imagine you want to own a business someday. Do you ask a business owner, "" No, because it's not specific enough. Instead, try asking, "What college classes did you find helpful for starting a business?"

If you can't solve your problem by following the first person's advice, why not ask someone else who may think differently? The key is: Don't be afraid to ask for advice.

    A. Probably not.

    B. The answer is yes!

    C. Here are some ways for you.

    D. What advice do you have for me?

    E. You should also consider when to ask.

    F. Sometimes you may need to ask for a second opinion.

  • 12、Have you ever heard that Guizhou has a funny nickname? Some people call it the "Potato Kingdom". But what we call "yangyu" or "tudou" here, people in Western countries usually call "potato".

Last year, a girl named Sarah from the United States came to study in Guizhou. Before she came, she thought potatoes were just French fries, mashed potatoes, or baked potatoes. However, her time in Guizhou completely changed her idea. On her first day, her new Chinese friend, Li Mei, took her to a street food stall. "You have to try our chaoyangyu!" Li Mei said. Sarah was surprised. She saw diced (颗粒) potatoes cooked with oil, chili, and a special sauce in a pot. It was spicy and smelly, but very delicious! This was nothing like the plain baked potato she had at home. In the following days, Sarah discovered more potato magic. She tried danbaoyangyu, where the soft fried egg wrapped (包裹) the flavorful mashed potatoes. She also loved yangyu baba, the crispy potato pancake that was golden outside and soft inside. She was amazed that one simple vegetable could have so many different forms and tastes. "The potato in America is often just a side dish," Sarah told Li Mei, "but here in Guizhou, it's the star of the meal!" Li Mei laughed and agreed, "Yes, for us Guizhou people, the potato is not just food. It's a memory of our childhood."

Sarah's experience shows us that even the most common things can be special in different cultures. Now, back in the US, when Sarah sees a potato, she doesn't just think of French fries. No one expected that Baduanjin would become popular among young Chinese people. In the past couple of years, an online teaching video of Baduanjin, a form of Qigong, has been played for more than 10 million times. "I have been doing Baduanjin for about four months. It helps me sleep better and get stronger. I like Baduanjin very much because it gives me a much healthier lifestyle," a young man said.

Baduanjin is one of the oldest health and fitnessapproaches in China, originally created over 800 years ago during the Song Dynasty. Its name is made up of two parts, namely "baduan" and "jin". Science comes alive across schools in China during its first National Science Popularization Month. Fun activities brought science closer to students and helped them understand the world goes around.

Have you ever heard of the Magdeburg hemispheres experiment (马德堡半球实验)? On Sept 5, Yi Xizong, from the Experimental High School, experienced it on the school trip. He saw how air pressure made impossible to pull two hemispheres apart. This made physics clear and exciting to him.

Yanqing No 1 High School organized space-themed event. A highlight was that stone pieces from space, colorful star maps and playful models led students into endless questions.

Xi'an Gaoxin No 1 High School also offered special courses to students. Shao Jiaxi discovered that the activity showed her how life deals with the environment watching local wildlife. It also helped her understand why live in harmony with nature.
