On my 35th birthday, I gave myself my first skateboard. Most of my friends and family thought I was crazy, but only I knew why.

Two years ago, I accidentally fell down a 12-meter waterfall and broke my pelvis (骨盆) . I went from using a wheelchair to using crutches (拐杖), then to trying to walk a block, and finally walking miles. Physical activity became even more important in my life. So why not make it enjoyable? I've   wanted to learn to skateboard since I was a kid, but most of my time and energy went into dancing. In my opinion, skating was actually very similar to dancing.

For a long time, I tried to learn skating on my own. I had no idea what I was doing and always feltawkward when many strangers saw me skating or simply trying to keep my balance. That fear of being judged often stopped me from just getting out there for practice.

One day, my friend Monica and I met some of the members of GRLSWIRL, a skateboarding club. They were so friendly that we wanted to be part of it. This club was amazing. Even though everyone there was better than me, they were happy to help and excited to see me overcome challenges. There, I gradually became more confident.

For me, a big part of skating was overcoming my PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). Falling is a huge part of skating, but because of that accident, it was really hard for me to overcome it. However, the more I learned from every little fall—allowing my body to understand that it was OK, and that I could drop and get up again—the less my PTSD took over. The more I skated, the better my body and mind felt. Although I started skating for therapy (治疗), I never imagined it would open up a new world of excitement and possibilities for me.

The history of foods is never simple. Think of ice-cream, many people see it as a Western dessert. However, this sweet treat actually came from China! In the Zhou Dynasty, Chinese people began to store winter ice to enjoy in summer. In the Song Dynasty, people started to make binglao — it just means "ice cream" in English. It was a lot like modern ice cream. Folk tales have it that Emperor Huizong suffered from stomach pains after eating too much ice. In the Yuan Dynasty, Marco Polo tasted binglao and carried the idea all the way back to Europe. People there added heavy cream and new tastes. The rest is history!

Sometimes, totally different cultures have similar dishes. Iranians love a kind of flat bread, sangak. People in Shaanxi, China, love stone pancakes. These two look almost the same! People often compare roujiamo to hamburgers, a symbol of American food! Many people call it the "Chinese hamburger". But in fact, the areas of Venezuela look more like the twin brother of roujiamo!

Food is a bridge between cultures. When foods cross borders, sweet things can happen.

She and Her Girls, a 23-episode TV series based on Zhang's real-life stories, concluded its broadcast on China Central Television's CCTV-1. Featuring actress Song Jia's4 performance of Zhang, the drama has gained 9.1 points out of 10 on the popular review platform, marking the highest rating of all Chinese dramas on the platform this year.

The TV series was planned in June 2020, aiming to recreate Zhang's strong will and dedication (奉献) on screen. The series' actors must have spent a lot of time and effort5 before the shooting started.

It not only6 Zhang as a great teacher with strong will to help her students, but also the hard living7 of these girls' families in the mountains. It also catches the hearts of the audiences. And the series is making efforts in describing Zhang8. Everyone who has watched it shared the same feeling that actress Song Jia9 to be as close as the role who is a well—known name in China.

Everyone who has watched She and Her Girls will10 Zhang as she, like a mountain flower blooming on a cliff (悬崖), uses her life to light the way forward for children in the mountains.

Reading a good history book is like opening a door to the past. It can not only let us learn from great people in history, but also help us understand the wisdom of life. Among all the history books, you can't a history book called Historical Records, or Shiji (《史记》).

Sima Qian, an official (官员) during the Western Han Dynasty(202 BC—AD 9) wrote it. He completed this great work under very difficult conditions, which showed his strong will. The work records the events beginning the well-known Yellow Emperor and ending with the first years of the Han Wudi period, covering around 3,000 years.

In this book, I like how the writer describes different people. For example, there's Da Yu, the founder of the Xia Dynasty. He tried so hard to a big flood that he refused to enter his home while passing by three times. I hope to be a great like Da Yu. There are also two well-known , Chen Sheng and Wu Guang. They a group of people against the Qin Dynasty. Their story shows that every person, whatever their birth, can become someone great he tries his best.

When I read this book, I could see how Sima Qian made the characters come alive with words. This makes the book of strong feelings of love and hate, and I always find these stories very inspiring. The book is more than a historical record. It is a treasure that makes me think and grow.
