Parents are like the eraser while their children are like the pencil. They' re always there for their children, cleaning up their mistakes. 

Though their children will at last find someone new(a lover or a friend), parents are still happy with what they do for their children and don't want to see them worried or sad. 

We all have been the pencils. 

 For it is certain that one day, all that we are left with would be eraser shavings(碎屑) and memories of what we used to have.

①Do you often hear parents say that their children are so secretive and never tell them anything? But have parents realised that they have actually caused this themselves?

②Parents can become upset or even angry when their children praise their friends' homes, thinking that it reflects dissatisfaction with their own home. Such childish behaviour shocks their children, who then decide not to tell them something any more. 

③     ▲      However, as children grow up, disillusionment(幻灭) with parents is actually unavoidable, no matter how good they may be both as parents and as individuals(个人). As a result, children gradually feel disappointed(失望的) and finally choose to remain silent. 

④If parents are not prepared for their children's gradual disappointment and fail to realise it is a sign of their children's growth, they will be so hurt and the parent-child relationship may then become worse. 

⑤To improve the parent-child relationship, parents should accept their mistakes. This is particularly important for children as they place great importance on honesty and admire parents who are truthful with them. 

⑥In the past, it was widely believed that being an authoritarian(专制主义者) was the best way to keep parents' dignity(尊严). However, this could cause children to dislike them and refuse to communicate with them. So, wise parents won't be too strict and they will not always try to manage their children's life and control their children's thoughts and ideas. 

⑦Nowadays, with the parent-child relation facing more challenges, parents should create good communication with their children by being truthful, respectful, and giving them a certain degree of independence of making their own choices and having their own thoughts. This will help to build a healthy family relationship where their children feel comfortable sharing their happy moments with them again. 

Many parents set rules for their children's online activities, such as limiting the amount of time they can spend online. But some children in the US and UK are saying that they'd like to make rules for parents too. They mainly complain that their parents share too many photos of them online. 

In a 2016 study, it was found that parents in the US share an average of116 photos of their kids after they are born. Most were taken before the child turned 8 years old. Many of the photos showed kids in embarrassing situations, like having food all over their faces. 

Parents like to share their children's progress as they grow up. However, their kids don't like it very much. In a survey of the UK children between the ages of 12 and 16, 70% of them said they felt their parents didn't respect their online privacy(隐私). 

In addition, many kids said that other students at school sometimes picked on(捉弄) them after their parents posted photos online. In one case, a girl was bullied(欺负) by boys at school after they found her mum's blog, which had many family photos. 

"Each time a photo or video is uploaded, it creates a digital footprint of a child, which can follow them into adult life, " a spokeswoman for a leading children's charity in the UK said. "It's always important to ask children for their permission before posting photos or videos of them. "

I used to hate my mother because she worked a lot and didn't spend much time with me. Then one Friday morning, I took part in a three - day self-help programme for teenagers. Whether you believe it or not, that weekend changed my life. 

About 100 other teenagers were there, During the first two days, I met a lot of great people. I was glad because I made so many friends there. 

On Sunday, the leader did an interesting exercise called"Chocolate orToys", He asked a girl which she liked better, chocolate or toys. She chose chocolate. Then he asked her to choose again between toys and toys. Of course, she didn't have a choice. 

This exercise told us that sometimes we don't have a choice in life, and that sometimes we have to accept something, rather than complaining(抱怨).

The Hero in My Heart

Everyone has a hero in his or her heart. 

Shan Jixiang retired(退休) on April 8th, 2019 after having been the head of the Palace Museum for seven years. Rather than the"boss" of the Palace Museum, Shan called  (he) a gatekeeper. To learn more about the Palace Museum, he spent five months  (walk) every inch of the museum.
