The boy from Hangzhou, together with several other students, worked on a project called "The Invisible (隐身的) are Significant". They hoped more students would see and respect the "invisible" staff in the school. The project won a prize at China Thinks Big, a competition held by Harvard University and Tsinghua University to encourage teenagers to study social problems.

"My team members and I sent questionnaires (问卷) to 158 students," said Ding. "In one question, 56 percent of the students said they would greet those non-teaching workers, while only 17 percent strongly believe that every student should do so." The team also observed communications between students and workers. "When most students follow the rules of their teachers, one-third of the students go against the rules of the dormitory attendants (宿舍管理员), " said Ding. "It shows that students treat non-teaching staff differently from teaching staff."

The main reason, according to Ding, is that students know little about the work done by non-teaching workers. They also have few chances to communicate with them. Therefore, Ding's team shot videos to show staff working around schools. They also held a basketball match between students and non-teaching staff to increase their communication.

"We've also made a series of stickers (贴纸), " said Ding. "We hope these cute images will help young people like the non-teaching staff more."

"The activity helped me understand that we can all make a positive impact (积极影响) through our creative ideas," Ding said.

This hot summer, not far from our house, a forest caught fire. It was in July and a heat wave had been going on for three days. Luck rushed towards the forest because of the burning heat. There was no longer any hope at that moment to wait for Luck to come back. Suddenly, a fireman ran into my house and told me that my dog Luck succeeded in saving four cats that were caught in the fire. According to the fireman, Luck caught the cats, moving them one by one into a safe place.

I ran out of the house and went with the firemen to the forest to pick up the saved cats. When we arrived, Luck was not there. Then we heard the sound of a dog coming from the forest barking (犬吠). I knew it was the sound of my dog Luck. The firemen followed the tracks (踪迹) of the dog until they found him barking loudly by the side of a injured fireman who was hopelessly lying on the ground and waiting for someone to save him.

Thanks to Luck, four cats and a fireman were saved. That day, I was very proud of Luck for his two heroic actions.

Later I paid a visit to the fireman in his house with my lovely Luck. It was such a memorable scene when the fireman held Luck close to his chest! "One thousand thanks, Luck, for saving my life," the fireman said.

I was in fifth grade and about to take a science test. Since first grade, I had always been good at school. Simple science was easy for me and I always did well on tests. When it came to fifth-grade science, however, I was struggling (挣扎). I couldn't seem to1 it no matter how hard I tried. I was anxious.

My mom and dad had always been so proud of my grade, and I didn't want to let them down. So just before the test I had written several2 from the textbook on my desk in pencil. The writing was so light that it could hardly be seen. I sat3 as the teacher started to hand out to the test. I didn't want to get caught, but I didn't want to fail, either.

As the teacher was starting down my row, suddenly the fire alarm went off. It was an unscheduled fire drill (消防演习).We all4   out of the door and stood together, waiting to be allowed back into the building.

As I stood outside in the warm sunshine, I realized what a fool I had been. I knew my mom and dad would still love me no matter what my grade was.
