Wildlife protection needs teenagers' practical participation, and there are various targeted ways for students to take part in the work at school and in daily life. Each small action can contribute to the protection of rare animals and arouse more people's attention to the issue.

Wildlife protection is not just the work of the government or professional workers, but also it is the responsibility of every student. As teenagers, we can do a lot of small things in our daily life to help protect endangered animals, and every small action can make a big difference to the animals in danger.  It's never too early for us to start taking action for wildlife protection.

First, we can learn more about endangered animals.  We can read books, watch documentaries or search for information online to know their living habits, the reasons why they are in danger and the ways to protect them. The more we know, the better we can do to help them.

Second, we can refuse to buy any products made from endangered animals.  Many animals are killed just because some people want to buy their fur, ivory or bones. If we say no to these products, the illegal trade will lose its market gradually.

Third, we can spread the idea of wildlife protection around us.  We can make posters, give short speeches at school or share protection stories with our family and friends. Let more people realize the importance of protecting wild animals and join in the protection work.

Fourth, we can take part in volunteer activities if we have time.  Some nature reserves and wildlife rescue centers need volunteers to help with feeding small animals, cleaning living areas or sorting protection materials. Joining these activities can let us get close to wild animals and know more about protection work.

High Technology in Global Wildlife Protection

In recent years, high technology has become a powerful tool in global wildlife protection, helping workers protect endangered animals more efficiently and scientifically. Unlike the traditional protection methods that rely on manual patrols, modern technology can monitor wild animals for 24 hours without disturbing them, and it can also find illegal hunting activities in time.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and big data are widely used in wildlife protection now. AI cameras can recognize different animal species and record their activity rules, and the big data system can collect and analyze the information to help scientists study the living habits of endangered animals. Drones are another important high-tech tool, and they can fly over large forest or mountain areas to watch wild animal groups, and they can quickly find the illegal hunters who hide in the wild. Some drones are even equipped with loudspeakers to warn the hunters to stop their bad acts.

Satellite tracking technology is also very useful for protecting migratory animals, such as cranes and whales. Workers set small trackers on these animals, and the satellites can follow their migration routes and record their stopover places. If the animals enter dangerous areas, workers can take action to help them in time. In addition, blockchain（区块链） technology is used to stop the illegal trade of wildlife products, and it can record the source of animal products and make the unlawful trade more traceable.

Although high technology brings a lot of convenience to wildlife protection, it can't replace the efforts of humans. The protection of endangered animals still needs the joint efforts of governments, organizations and every citizen. Only when technology and human love are combined, can we build a better world for humans and wild animals.

The Rescue and Protection of Chinese Pangolins

The Chinese pangolin is a unique mammal in China that is covered with hard scales（鳞片）. It mainly feeds on ants and termites（白蚁）, and it plays an important role in controlling the number of insects and protecting the forest ecosystem. However, the Chinese pangolin has become a critically（极度的） endangered species in recent decades. The main reasons are illegal hunting and trading, and some people hunt pangolins for their scales and meat because they wrongly think these things have special values. In addition, the destruction of forest habitats makes it hard for pangolins to find food and living places.

To protect Chinese pangolins, China has made strict laws to list them as a first-class national protected animal, and the hunting, trading and using of pangolins and their products are completely forbidden. Any person who breaks the law will be punished seriously. Meanwhile, many wildlife rescue centers have been built across the country to help pangolins in trouble. The staff in these centers take in injured, sick or young pangolins, provide them with professional medical treatment, and feed them with artificial ant paste which is similar to their natural food.

When the pangolins are healthy enough and able to live independently in the wild, the rescue centers will choose suitable forest areas to release them back. Before release, the staff will set up trackers on the pangolins to monitor their living conditions after they return to the wild. What's more, the government and environmental organizations have carried out a lot of publicity activities to let people know the importance of pangolin protection and the harm of illegal hunting. Now, more and more people have realized the value of pangolins, and more volunteers join in the work of protecting them.

Saving the Yangtze Finless Porpoise

The Yangtze finless porpoise（江豚） is a rare aquatic animal that only lives in the Yangtze River in China. It is known as the "smiling angel of the Yangtze" because of its lovely round face and smiling expression. This small porpoise is a first-class protected animal in China, but it once faced the risk of extinction. Before 2010, the number of Yangtze finless porpoises dropped sharply, mainly due to water pollution, overfishing in the Yangtze River, and the damage of their water habitats caused by shipping and engineering projects.

In order to save this lovely animal, China has taken strong and effective actions. First, the government carried out a 10-year fishing ban in the Yangtze River in 2020, which stops people from fishing in the main stream and branches of the river, so the porpoises can get enough fish to eat. Second, workers have cleaned up the waste and rubbish in the Yangtze River to improve water quality, and they have built artificial water grass areas and protected bays for the porpoises to live and reproduce safely. Third, special rescue centers have been set up in Wuhan, Yichang and other cities. Injured or sick porpoises are taken in and treated there, and healthy young porpoises are released back to the wild when they are able to live on their own.

With these efforts, the number of Yangtze finless porpoises has increased year by year. By 2024, the number has reached about 1,600, which is a big step forward in water wildlife protection. Now, you can see these "smiling angels" swimming and playing in the clear water of the Yangtze River, and the river's ecosystem is becoming better and better with the recovery of the porpoise population.

The Protection of Snow Leopards in Western China

Snow leopards are rare large cats living in the high mountain areas of western China, including the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the Tianshan Mountains. These graceful animals have thick fur to stand the cold and rocky living places, and they are an important part of the alpine ecosystem. However, snow leopards have been in a dangerous situation for years. A few years ago, the number of wild snow leopards in China was less than 2,000, mainly because their natural food is becoming scarce, their living areas are being damaged by human activities, and some people hunt them illegally for their beautiful fur and bones.

To protect this endangered species, China has taken a series of practical measures in recent years. First, the government has built more than 60 nature reserves in the snow leopards' habitats to prevent people from entering to hunt or destroy the environment. Second, local wildlife protection teams work with local herdsmen to solve the food shortage problem. They raise and release herbivores（食草动物） like blue sheep in the reserves to provide enough prey（猎物） for snow leopards. Third, strict laws have been made to punish unlawful poaching and the trade of snow leopard products, and police patrol the mountain areas regularly to stop such bad acts.

High technology also plays a key role in snow leopard protection. Workers have placed a large number of infrared（红外的） cameras in the mountains to watch the animals' daily activities without disturbing them, and satellite trackers are used to study their migration（迁徙） rules. Thanks to all these efforts, the number of wild snow leopards in China has risen to over 2,500 now. More local people have also joined the protection work, and the harmony between humans and snow leopards is being built step by step.

A Volunteer's Experience at a Panda Reserve

Last summer, during my summer vacation, I decided to 1 at a giant panda reserve in Sichuan after seeing a documentary about panda protection. It has always been my dream to get close to these lovely national treasures. I was so 2 to get close to the lovely pandas, but also a little nervous because I knew nothing about panda care at first and was afraid of making mistakes. The guide at the reserve taught me a lot of basic knowledge patiently. He told me that pandas need fresh bamboo every day, and we must give them enough 3 to move around freely. Their living area should be clean and quiet all the time, especially for the baby pandas that were just born.

At first, I was slow at the work, but after a few days of practice, I became much 4 at my job, and the keepers praised my progress. I learned to cut bamboo into proper pieces and feed the pandas gently, and even knew how to prepare fresh water for them on hot days. I also knew how to talk 5 the baby pandas with soft voices, and they would move their heads and look at me cutely, sometimes even walking around my feet. Every time I cleaned their house, I checked the environment 6 to make sure there was no danger for them, like sharp stones or broken branches.

Protecting Endangered Animals

Time flies. Our world is changing all the time. My hometown  (change) a lot in the past few years. When I was young, there were no tall buildings here. The roads were narrow and dirty. People  (go) to work by bike or on foot. There was only one small school in our town. 

Now, everything is different. There are many tall buildings and wide roads. There are several modern schools and hospitals. People's lives (become) better and better. Many families have cars and computers. I  (live) in this town since I was born. I  (love) my hometown deeply. I hope it will become more beautiful in the future. 

Last week,  terrible thing happened. I argued with my best friend because she said I was a terrible listener. I felt sad and didn't know what to do, so I asked my parents for help. Here  some advice from them. 

When someone is talking, don't cut in. If you have different opinions, wait until he or she finishes speaking. You  show your ideas later. The timing of sharing your ideas is also very important. Don't rush  ask until it is your turn. Interrupting (插嘴) will make him or her feel uncomfortable. 

When you listen to someone, don't think about your reply first.  it's normal to consider what to say early, don't change the topic or just talk about yourself. Also, ask questions about his or her topic and show your interest. 

How to Communicate Well in Cross-Cultural Situations

When we communicate with people from different countries, it's important to know how to do it well. Here are some useful suggestions to help you have better cross-cultural communication. Learning about the basic customs of the country before you meet people from there is a good start. For example, if you are going to meet someone from Japan, you should know that bowing is a common way to show respect. This can help you avoid making mistakes and leave a good impression. Being polite and patient when talking with others also matters. If you don't understand what they say, don't interrupt them. Instead, ask them to repeat or explain slowly. It's also important to listen carefully and show your interest in their words. Avoiding using gestures that may be impolite in their culture is necessary too. Some gestures that are acceptable in your country may have a bad meaning in another country. For example, pointing at someone with your finger is not polite in many countries. Besides, be open-minded and respect their differences. Don't judge their customs or habits with your own standards. Every culture is valuable, and we should learn to accept and respect them. If you make a mistake, don't be afraid to apologize. It can show your sincerity and help you build a good relationship with them. Following these suggestions can help you communicate better with people from different cultures and make more friends around the world. 

How to Help Others Through Volunteering

Today, more and more people want to give back to their communities through volunteering.  Whether you have a few hours a week or just a few days a month, your time can make a difference. 

Helping the elderly

As people age, everyday tasks can become challenging. Many elderly individuals live alone and struggle with shopping, cleaning, or even getting to doctor's appointments.  You can offer to do their grocery shopping, clean their homes, or simply sit and chat with them. Your company can brighten their day. 

Helping the disabled

People with disabilities often face barriers that make daily life difficult.  If you have a skill like painting or playing music, you can share it with them. Even small acts of kindness can mean a lot. 

Helping during holidays

Holidays can be a difficult time for those who are alone or struggling.  You can volunteer at a soup kitchen, deliver meals to families in need, or organize a gift drive for children.  Every effort counts.

As Hurricane Dorian made many people in South Carolina leave their homes in early September, a six-year-old boy decided that he wanted to help. 

Bell spent two years saving about $100 so that he could spend his seventh birthday at Disney World with his family. But while staying with his grandmother in South Carolina, he decided to spend the money on water, potato chips and hot dogs for the survivors (幸存者) of the hurricane. 

With the help of his grandmother, Bell set up a table next to a busy road and gave out free food to over 100 people. "When people were hungry, I wanted them to have something to consume, " Bell said. "I am very proud of him, " his grandmother said in an interview. "We knew Bell was very special, but we didn't know he was special in this way. " But Bell said, "I just wanted to be generous (慷慨的). "

On September 8, Bell's seventh birthday, Mickey Mouse and Disney World workers visited his home in Florida to give him a Lion King cake, stuffed (填充的) toys, Mickey Mouse balloons, and a VIP trip to Disney World.

Reading is a common activity in our daily life, but do you know how it affects our brains? Many studies have shown that reading can bring great benefits to our brain development.

Reading also helps to improve our language skills. It enriches our vocabulary and teaches us how to use words correctly. By reading different kinds of texts, we can learn new sentence structures and writing styles. This is very helpful for our own writing and speaking. 

In addition, reading can reduce stress and make us feel relaxed. When we are deeply absorbed in a good book, we will forget all our worries and troubles. It is a good way to relax after a long day of study or work. Reading can also broaden our horizons and help us learn about different cultures, histories and lifestyles. 

It is never too late to start reading. No matter how old you are, you can benefit from reading. You can choose books that you are interested in, and read for a few minutes every day. Over time, you will find that your brain becomes more active and your life becomes more colorful.

Third, the library is a quiet place for reading. Please do not talk loudly or make noise. You can use your mobile phone, but please keep it on silent mode. 

Fourth, food and drinks are not allowed in the library. Please take them out before entering. 

Finally, please return the books on time. If you return them late, you will be fined 0.5 yuan per day.

The School Library

My grandma loves reading and has a small but warm bookshelf in her room. Every time I visit her, I always sit with her and read together. Last month, she gave me a book about friendship, which is her favorite 1 . She told me that the book brought her much joy when she was young. 

I started reading the book on my way home. The story is about a girl and her dog. They lived in a quiet village and always helped each other. One day, the dog got lost, and the girl felt very 2 . She looked for it everywhere, even in the deep forest. With the help of the villagers, she finally found her dog on a cold morning. The girl was so happy that she cried, and the dog kept 3 her hand gently. 

When I finished the book, I understood why my grandma loved it so much. It tells us that true friendship is precious. I decided to 4 the book to my classmates. They were all interested in it and asked me to read some parts aloud. Later, we formed a small reading group and read different books together. 

Reading this book not only made me feel happy but also taught me the importance of kindness and friendship. Now, I read a little every day and enjoy the 5 of reading. My grandma often says that books are our best friends, and I totally agree with her. Every book has its own story, and we can always find something 6 from it.
