In our neighborhood, a community garden has become a beloved spot for residents of all ages. It was once an empty and neglected (被忽视的) piece of land. But a group of enthusiastic neighbors decided to transform it into a place full of life and greenery.
The garden is divided into different sections. There is a vegetable-growing area where families grow their own tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce. Some of the more experienced gardeners are always ready to offer advice to beginners on how to deal with pests (害虫) and when to water the plants. Then there is a flower-bed section, filled with colorful roses, sunflowers, and daisies. The sight of these blooming flowers not only brings aesthetic (美学的) pleasure but also attracts bees and butterflies, which contribute to the local ecosystem.
A special part of the garden is the community shed (棚子). Inside, there are shared gardening tools like shovels, hoes, and watering cans. This sharing system not only saves costs for individual families but also promotes a sense of cooperation among neighbors. People often gather here to chat while borrowing or returning tools, strengthening the bonds within the community.
The success of the community garden has shown that when people work together, they can create something truly wonderful. It has not only beautified the neighborhood but also cultivated a spirit of unity and mutual-assistance among the residents.

Butterflies play a vital role in the ecosystem of our local nature reserve. They are not only enchanting with their colorful wings but also crucial pollinators.
There are two main types of butterflies commonly found in the reserve: the Monarch-like butterflies and the Swallowtail-like butterflies. The Monarch-like butterflies have a unique migration pattern. Every autumn, they embark on (开始) a long-distance journey to warmer regions. Their bodies are adorned with bright orange and black patterns, which act as a warning to predators (捕食者) that they may be unpalatable. These butterflies mainly feed on the nectar (花蜜) of milkweed plants.
The Swallowtail-like butterflies, on the other hand, are more sedentary (定居的) in nature. They have beautiful, long-tailed wings with intricate (复杂精细的) patterns. They prefer a variety of flowering plants in the reserve for their food source. Unlike the Monarch-like butterflies, they do not undertake such long-distance migrations.
The presence of butterflies in the reserve is an indicator of a healthy ecosystem. They contribute to the pollination of numerous plants, which in turn supports the entire food web. However, in recent years, due to habitat loss and the use of pesticides (杀虫剂), their populations have been declining. Local environmental protection groups have been working hard to raise awareness about the importance of butterfly conservation. They have set up butterfly-friendly gardens within the reserve, planting a wide range of native plants that serve as food sources and habitats for these beautiful insects. Through these efforts, they hope to reverse the decline in butterfly numbers and maintain the ecological balance of the reserve.
(1)、Why are butterflies crucial for the nature reserve?A、Because they are very beautiful and attract many visitors. B、Because they are important pollinators for plants in the reserve. C、Because they have unique migration patterns. D、Because they can protect other insects from predators.(2)、What is the main difference between Monarch-like butterflies and Swallowtail-like butterflies?A、The Monarch-like butterflies have more colorful wings than the Swallowtail-like butterflies. B、The Monarch-like butterflies feed on milkweed plants while the Swallowtail-like butterflies only eat nectar from a single type of flower. C、The Monarch-like butterflies undertake long-distance migrations but the Swallowtail-like butterflies are more likely to stay in one place. D、The Monarch-like butterflies' patterns are a warning to predators, but the Swallowtail-like butterflies' patterns have no such function.(3)、What can we infer from the passage?A、The number of butterflies in the reserve has been increasing in recent years. B、The local environmental protection groups' efforts have not had any effect on butterfly populations so far. C、Habitat loss and pesticides are the only reasons for the decline in butterfly numbers. D、Maintaining a healthy butterfly population is important for the ecological balance of the reserve. -
