If a friend helps you, it's a good idea to write a thank-you note to him. But in fact, how many of us sit down to do this? "People don't seem to give thanks to people quite often, " Professor Kumar said. Why don't people like to send thank-you notes? And how do people feel when they get one?

Kumar and his team asked some students to write a thank-you note to another person by e-mail. Then, they asked both the writer and the receiver how sending or getting these notes made them feel. Here is the result. 

They found that these writers didn't like to write the notes because they felt like they had to think too much about them. They worried about what to say and how to say it. The receivers, however, felt glad when they got the notes. "When you are a receiver, you really care about the warmth of the notes, " Kumar said. 

Also, the writers didn't like to write the notes because they thought it might be awkward (尴尬的) for the receiver to get a thank-you note. But in fact, it's not tree. "They feel quite happy, " Kumar said. "They don't really feel awkard at all. If people know that writing a thank - you note could be so important to others, they will do it more often. "

In a word, simple and small changes in our everyday lives can make a big difference to how we treat (对待) other people and how we feel. 

As I put down my guitar and finished my song, I heard people clapping. I knew my show was successful.

Dear Xiao Li, 

My time in China is going well. I love my new school and classmates. During the October holiday, my parents took   To Xi' an to see the Terracotta Army (兵马俑) first. I heard that it is an amazing sight when I was a little kid. To me, the story of the Terracotta Army is almost unbelievable. It's   that there are so many statues(雕像) made to guard the tomb(坟墓) of the Chinese Emperor(皇帝) Qinshihuang! Each statue   a different face, leading people to believe that each one is a copy of a real soldier (士兵). The statues fill only one part of the   huge tomb. 

Many ancient people worked for many years to build this tomb. However, no one   about the tomb or the terracotta statues until the 1970s. 

Next, we wanted to visit several other places in Xi' an. My dad and I were both looking forward to going to the Shanxi History Museum,   my dad loved history and I heard that this museum is known as a "Chinese treasure house"! We also wanted to see the Xi' an City Wall. In a word, I  believe Xi' an is the best city that I have ever been to, and that China is the best country that I have been to. 

We took the high-speed train, which has the most comfortable , leaving when the holiday was   .

As teenagers, you have many dreams. These dreams can be very big, such as winning the Nobel Prize; or they can be very small, such as becoming one of the best students in your class. 

Once you find a dream, what do you do with it? Do you ever try to make your dream come true?

Andrew Mattews, an Australian writer tells us that making dreams come true is the biggest challenge (挑战) in life. You may think that you' re not very good at some school subjects, or that it is impossible for you to become a writer. These kinds of ideas stop you from realizing your dream. 

Remember your dream and don't let it leave your heart. Keep telling yourself what you want. Do this step by step and your dream will come·true faster. 

You must also never give up your dream. There will be difficulties on the way to your dream, but the biggest difficulty comes from yourself. You need to decide what is the most important. Studying instead of watching TV will help you get better exam results, while saving 30 yuan instead of buying a toy means you can buy a new book. 

As you get closer to your dream, it may change slowly. This is good because you have the chance to learn more skills and find new interests. 

Traveling on holiday

Many people like going on holiday.   But when planning a trip, you have to decide who to travel with; your family. friends, or just yourself. 

Traveling with family can be very cheap or even free, if parents pay.   One friend told me that both she and her sister cried after arguing on holiday. In my own family, Dad always wants to go to a museum. Mom would like to stay in the hotel. My sister likes to buy clothes. As for me, the coffee shop is a great place. 

  When you are traveling with friends, you do more different things than you do with family. It is a way to have a better friendship. You can learn more about your friends. You can become closer to each other. But money is always a problem if you go on holiday with your friends. It is common for you to have different budgets(预算). And there is also a lot of compromise(妥协) when you' re planning where to stay and what to eat. 

When it comes to choosing whom to travel with, there is another choice—— traveling alone.   For example, you do not have to compromise on your budget. You can choose what you want to do, and it's easier for you to make new friends. Of course, traveling alone is not always good.  And when you want to go to the toilet (厕所) at the bus station or airport, there is nobody to look after your things. 

Imagine having everything you need— hospitals, stores, parks— just a few steps from your home. This is the idea of the 15-minute city. Here, people can get all the services they need within 15 minutes from home. This social model is being developed in cities around the world, from Paris to Moscow. It could make people healthier and help them build stronger relationships with neighbors. 

Carlo s Moreno is a strong supporter of the 15-minute city. He was encouraged by the need to fight against climate change. In a 15-minute city, car travel is not the best choice. Instead, going out on foot or by bike is chosen by most people. Walking or biking across the city is of great use in cutting down CO₂ emissions (排放). 

Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, plans to develop 15-minute communities throughout France. That means the number of parking spaces may be reduced to 60, 000 by 2024 and that more bike roads will be created on every street of the city. 

Joe Zehnder is the planner of the city Moscow. He is developing"15-minute neighborhoods". "Having stores close to homes makes people be able to eat healthier food and live a better life, " Zehnder says. 

Syra Madad is also a key person behind the plan. He wants to make these places inclusive (包容的). As a neighborhood becomes more convenient, housing costs may increase. Madad suggests trying creating more kinds of houses, so that people of different groups can have a chance to live there.
