"Achoo!" You might hear people sneezing (打喷嚏) a lot now and sometimes people need to take some medicine to stop it. That's because spring is the season of pollen allergies !

Think of your immune system (免疫系统) as "soldiers" protecting your body. Usually, these soldiers keep you safe from things like viruses. However, sometimes they make a mistake and think pollen is also dangerous. Pollen helps plants spread and grow, but some people's immune systems don't fight it properly. This causes sneezing.

Also, more cars and factories let out gases that pollute the air. This pollution can stay with pollen, making allergies worse. Some pollution can even break pollen into small pieces that reach deep into our lungs(肺), causing serious health problems.

You might see new trees in your neighborhood. Plants from other places can change the types and amounts of pollen in the air. This can upset the local ecosystem (生态系统), sometimes causing more allergies. For example, ryegrass (黑麦草) from Europe causes spring allergies every year in Australia.

After three tries, Millie finally passed the first aid test. She remembered her ABCs of what to do when someone is unconscious (昏迷的). Airway: open the airway on the practice dummy (模型). Breathing: check breathing and do rescue (急救) breathing. Circulation (循环): do chest compressions (胸外按压) for circulation. These are the three key steps of CPR (心肺复苏).

Millie told everybody about her new learning and really wanted to test her skills. Every day she kept looking for possible accidents, almost hoping that something bad would happen to someone, just so she could rescue them. One morning, her dad was eating breakfast when suddenly he started coughing, "Finally", thought Millie, "I have my chance!" But then her dad stopped coughing and he was fine. Millie was down.

Later at school, during lunchtime, her friend Stacy ran to her. "Quick!" She called. "It's Bobby! He's unconscious!" Millie ran to help. But all of a sudden, she couldn't remember her ABCs. "No!" she shouted. Then she took a deep breath and remembered. "A for airways." She checked his mouth. It was clear. But Bobby was very different from the dummy. As she was about to do step B, she thought, "Oh no. His    breath    smells." But she remembered how important it was. She pinched (捏住) his nose and was about to give the mouth-to-mouth rescue breathing when Bobby began laughing and so did Stacy. Millie realized it was all a joke. She hit Bobbie on the arm. She was angry, but then thought and said to her friends, "Well, at least I got to practice, and maybe I'd rather not have to do it in real life, anyway!"

My name is Pan Yuan and I'm from north-east China. I'm a special kind of firefighter  (call) a smokejumper (空降消防员). This  (mean) that I jump out of airplanes to stop big fires from spreading in the forest.

I live and work in the Daxing'anling region in Heilongjiang Province. Thick forests, rich in wildlife, cover the beautiful and wild mountains here. Sadly, fires are quite common at certain  (time) of the year. These fires are very dangerous. They can hurt or even kill people and animals.

When a forest fire starts, my teammates and I act fast. The fires are often difficult  (reach), so we fly out in a plane and then jump down with a parachute. Once we land, we race to put out the fire. We use simple tools to clear away  (die) leaves and trees to stop fires from spreading.
