After coming to China, Chinese literature opened a new world for Kirill. He speaks of finding humor and resilience (坚韧) in Lao She's Ricksha Boy (《骆驼祥子》, which says "even the greatest difficulties can be slept through," or seeing the changes of cities and lives in Eileen Chang's works.

"Reading in a foreign language not only improves my language skills, but also allows me to think about the meaning of fate (命运) and life carefully through a Chinese point of view," he adds.
