How do you want to raise money for charity? Here are several ways to support your favorite charity. 

How about organizing a car wash? Everybody who has a car sooner or later washes it or has it washed. So why don't you and your classmates do the job? The money the car owners pay will go towards your chosen charity. When we did it, we had an amazing time! At first, some of us were worried about getting wet or dirty and it was proving true. But we also had fun, and at the end of the day it was really worth (值得) it!

Tim, a 13-year-old boy, got his idea from a TV show. It was about saving books for the community library. 

Tim wanted to help children in their community to have more chances to read books. He started Saving Books Program. Its goal was to collect books for the local library. Tim went from door to door to get books from the people around. He ended up collecting 260 books. All the books went to the library. "I love to see where the books go, and how people are enjoying them," Tim said. 

With the help of his sister, Tim made the program a success. They put up posters (海报) to spread the words: saving books for the local library. 

Now, Tim is in seventh grade. He has taken the program a step further. He helps in the library when he is free at weekends. His program has inspired (激励) other kids to do more service for their own community. 

Joe, the librarian, knows how much Tim cares about community service. "In third grade, Tim started Smile Mail. It's a program in which kids send cheerful gifts to the old. It's still going strong. He is warm-hearted," Joe said. 

"I really like doing community service," Tim said. "I'm proud of what I have done."

As we all know, the International Volunteer(志愿者) Day is December 5th every year. It started on December 17th, 1985. It's a day to respect volunteers all over the world. 

Our country now has 450,000 volunteers. They provided more than 4. 5 billion hours of voluntary work. Someone says that for students, this kind of work isn't meaningful and wastes time. But I think that we can get much from it. 

First of all, volunteering is a good way to open our eyes. We may do something we have never done and meet different kinds of people. We can talk with them and get their good ideas. 

Secondly, volunteers, especially (尤其) students can learn much from practice. As students, we are interested in books and learn some knowledge from them. After we become volunteers, we will have the chance to put our knowledge into practice. 

What's more, volunteering is good for our future job. That is to say, when we take part in other jobs for free, we can get some experience and know how to solve some problems we never met before. 

In a word, volunteering is a form of practice and experience. We shouldn't say no to it. 

When Qi Hongbo, a respected member of a rescue (救援) team and a volunteer for public welfare (公益事业), died at the age of 47 on May 31,2024, his family made an important decision to donate his body in order to help more people. 

Qi, who worked as a truck driver in Zibo, Shandong, also served as a deputy (副职) leader of a rescue team in Zibo. Throughout his life, he had been doing things for the public. 

In the eyes of his wife Chang Li, Qi always eagerly volunteered whenever there was a call for help. He spent almost all of his free time on voluntary service. 

In August 2021, when a sudden flood hit Henan Province, Qi, together with his team members, rushed to Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province, to help with rescuing people. Then again in December 2023 when a powerful earthquake hit Jishishan County in Gansu Province, he and his team took action to deal with the disaster at once. 

According to Liu Dong, the leader of the rescue team, Qi kept his mobile phone on for 24 hours so that he could respond quickly whenever needed. 

However, no one thought that Qi would lose his life in the volunteer service he loved. On the afternoon of May 24, Qi fainted (昏厥) while volunteering in Zibo. When he fell, he hit his head on a stone bench, leading to his death. 

In the terrible sadness, his wife and son made a difficult but great decision to donate Qi's liver, kidneys, corneas, and other organs (器官). 

It's often said that high school years are quite important in one's lifetime. During this period, people begin to1 what is meaningful to them and how they should live their lives. As for me, I've learnt a lot by volunteering at a hospital during my high school years. 

I used to be a shy girl. When I first began volunteering, I felt very2 about being pushed outside my comfort zone   (舒适区). I was scared to meet people from all walks of life (各行各业).3 , as time went by, I learnt how to introduce myself to others. Also, I was able to make feel at home. This experience turned out to be really4 in the real world.5 .
