Once upon a time, there was a girl called Jean. She lived near a big forest.

Every evening the young Fisherman goes out on the sea. He throws his net s into the water. When the wind blows from the land, he doesn't catch many fish: But when the wind blows from the sea, he catches lots of fish and he can sell them on the market.

One evening the Fisherman's net is very heavy. He thinks, "Are all the fish in the sea in my net? Or is there a monster (怪物) in my net?" He pulls and pulls his net.

There are no fish or monsters in his net. But there is a little Mermaid (美人鱼) and she is sleeping.

Her beauty makes the Fisherman very happy. He takes the Mermaid in his arms. She wakes up when he touches her. She cries like a seagull and she wants to escape. But the Fisherman holds the Mermaid in his arms."Please free me," the Mermaid cries."I am the only daughter of the King. My father is old and alone."

"Make a promise, to me", says the Fisherman. "I can free you. But please come out when I call you. You can sing to me and to the fish. Then my nets can always be full of fish."

"I promise," cries the Mermaid. The Fisherman opens his arms and frees the frightened (受恐吓的) Mermaid. She swims down under the water..

Every evening the Fisherman calls the Mermaid. And she sings for him. But she doesn't come near him. Her song and her voice make him very happy. And the Fisherman forgets his net s and the fish. His eyes are full of love.

Once upon a time, there was a lovely garden. There  (be) a tree with many leaves and some  (vegetable) in the garden. Both the vegetables and the tree made the garden beautiful. The gardener was very  (happily) with it. But the tree and vegetables didn't like each other. The vegetables didn't like  tree's shadow (阴影). The tree thought the vegetables drank all the water.

One day, the vegetables decided to use all the water in the ground to dry the tree. Then the tree answered back  not giving the vegetables shadow. The gardener was sad and stopped  (give) them water. When he did that, both the tree and vegetables were really thirsty. They had no good ways to live longer,  one of the smallest vegetables wanted to solve (解决) the problem. He did his best to grow, grow, grow...

He  (grow) so big that the gardener began to take good care of them. He provided  (they) with water again. Then the vegetables and the tree grew strong again. They knew it was better to help each other than to fight. They worked together  (make) the garden beautiful again.

The birds of the forest had no king. All the birds thought they needed a king. But who would be the king? One said "Let the bird who flies the highest be the king." Everyone agreed. Eagle (老鹰) heard that and asked, "Why not make me the king now? I can fly the highest." 

"  ▲  " said Sparrow (麻雀). 

"Oh! Who's going to beat me? You?" Eagle laughed. 

Owl started the race. When everyone was ready, Owl cried, "Whoo, whoo!" All the birds took to the air. 

But they could not fly very high and fast for long. One by one, they dropped out of the race. Only Eagle went on flying. 

"High, high… I'm the king in the sky…" he sang. He looked down and found all the birds giving up. 

But Eagle did not know that little Sparrow was flying under one of his wings (翅膀) all the way. The time he stopped, Sparrow flew out. He flew just over the Eagle's head and cried out, "No, no, no, Mr. Eagle. I'm the king of the birds. Look! I am now flying higher than you."

All the birds were very surprised to see Sparrow fly higher. They wanted Sparrow as their king. Eagle did not like this at all. So he caught Sparrow and threw him to the ground. 

Sparrow got hurt, and half of his tail (尾巴) was cut off. From then on, Sparrow had a short tail.

A long time ago, my grandparents moved into a new house with 4 daughters. Because work was hard to find, Grandpa did whatever jobs he could. He and Grandma dug a garden to grow some food.

The house had a big front yard with tall trees. Grandparents planted vegetables on one side of the yard and flowers on the other side.

Everybody worked to keep the garden growing. Later, the family ate food from the garden and enjoyed the beautiful flowers.

The family grew up, and the grandchildren came. Grandparents still planted their garden. Everyone still enjoyed the food from the garden.

Years later, it became harder for grandparents to keep the garden. So they made it a little smaller. There was still much to eat from the garden and lovely flowers to enjoy.

However, at 89, Grandpa couldn't move and then died. So the next spring, Grandma planted only a small garden.

One sunny day in the early summer, Grandma saw a big group of bees flying between two tall trees. Slowly the bees entered a hole up in one of the trees. Soon after, all bees disappeared into their new home.

That summer, Grandma got a big harvest (收获).

One day, Grandma's brother Frank visited her. Grandma told him the story about the group of bees. Frank told her that bees pollinated vegetables and flowers and helped them grow. Just then Grandma understood the reason for her great harvest.

From that time on, Grandma always believed that since Grandpa couldn't be there to help her that summer, he had sent the bees to take his place and make Grandma's little garden grow and grow. Thanks to Grandpa's bees, the family could still have much food to eat and lovely flowers to enjoy every year. The help of the bees continued, just as Grandpa's love.

A young man goes to town and buys himself a pair of socks. When he comes back home, he goes to his room and tries them on. He finds they are in different colours. One is blue, but the other is green. He goes into the kitchen. His mother and his sister are cooking dinner. He says to them, "The new socks are in different colours. I should make them in the same colour. Would you like to do this for me?" His mother and his sister are busy and they do not say anything. When his mother finishes (完成) cooking, she goes to her son's room and makes the green sock into blue. She comes back without (没有) saying a word to her son. After dinner, his sister goes to his room and makes one blue sock into green without saying anything to anyone.

There is a farmer.When he is working in the 1 , he sees a rabbit. The rabbit runs into a tree stump (树桩) and 2 .

The farmer stops 3 . He walks to the tree stump to get the rabbit. Then he takes it home and 4 a delicious dinner for 5 . He says 6 to himself, "7 good day! Today I don't work hard but I get a rabbit. So, I don't need 8 so hard. All I have to do is to sit by the stump every day. And then I can wait for the 9 to come and run into it." After that, the farmer gives up farming. He comes to the tree stump 10 . He spends 11 time around it. But he 12 sees any rabbits run into the tree stump. What's worse (更糟的), the farmer's field is full of 13 at harvest (收获) time.

No pain, no gain. We shouldn't leave 14 to luck and just wait. 15 we want a good result, we should go for it.
