We often see busy streets, crowded crosswalks and large groups of people in modern cities worldwide. But few of us notice that many wild animals also live in cities and stay with humans every day. Why do these animals choose to live in cities?

Firstly, some animals move to cities because food is easy to get. For example, pigeons are very common city animals. They walk slowly in green parks and look for food left by people.

Secondly, and more importantly, many animals lose their natural wild homes because of human activities. As a result, they have to learn to live in the new city world and develop new useful skills. In a science test, city raccoons(浣熊) were much smarter than wild raccoons. City raccoons learn many life skills from city life every day. For example, they could open rubbish cans to get food inside, but wild raccoons could not.

However, this shared life is not always peaceful. For one thing, birds make streets dirty with their waste, and some wild animals may even enter houses to look for food. For another, more animals get hurt when humans take away their living places.

To solve these problems, scientists keep studying these animals to protect both sides. To achieve this, we should never feed wild animals, keep a safe distance(距离)and use special rubbish bins. In fact, if we take good care of them, we can share the world peacefully with all small animals around us. Humans and wild animals can become good neighbours.

(1)、Why do some wild animals move to cities according to paragraph 2?
A、To learn new useful skills. B、To get food easily in cities. C、To share food with humans. D、To make friends with humans.
(2)、Why does the writer use the example of city raccoons?
A、To ask people to help city animals. B、To advise people to feed animals in cities. C、To show that wild animals are less interesting. D、To explain that animals learn new skills to live in cities.
(3)、What do we know about humans and city animals from Paragraph 4?
A、They live together peacefully. B、They have problems with each other. C、Animals prefer to stay away from humans. D、Humans build new homes for wild animals.

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is in Guizhou province of China and crosses the Beipan River, 625meters below. It is the world's tallest bridge. It helps people travel much faster and brings many visitors to the area.

It took three years to build the bridge, and it cost about $295 million. For safety,over 400 sensors(传感器) were put on the bridge, and 96 trucks were driven on it to test it. The bridge is now part of the S57 highway. Before, the trip between the two sides took 70 minutes on winding roads. Now, it takes just a little over a minute.

The bridge is also a tourist attraction. There is a glass walkway where visitors can look down at the river. People can take a glass elevator(电梯) to a cafe 800 meters high. If you want to try something more exciting, there is bungee jumping(蹦极).

China has built many bridges in Guizhou. In the 1980s, the province had fewer than 3,000 bridges. Now, it has over 32,000 bridges, including almost half of the world's 100 tallest bridges.

A、Hanging in the air. B、Looking narrow. C、Made of hard stones. D、Bulit for walking only.
(4)、What can visitors do on the bridge?
A、Drive trucks. B、Try bungee jumping. C、Take an elevator to the river. D、Drink coffee on a glass walkway.
(5)、What is the main idea of the passage?
A、Guizhou has many mountains and valleys. B、Bungee jumping is a popular sport around China. C、Building tall bridges in Guizhou is hard and expensive. D、The highest bridge makes travel easier and attracts visitors.

Many people believe they must walk 10,000 steps every day to stay healthy. However, new research shows this is not necessary. Scientists say walking 7,000 steps a day is already enough to keep healthy.

Dr. Ding from a university in Sydney did the study.She read 31 reports about walking and health. She wanted to find how many steps people need to keep fit.

The study compared people who walk different numbers of steps daily. People who walk 7,000 steps are much healthier than those who walk only 2,000 steps.They have lower risks(风险) of early death, heart problems and memory problems.

Where does the 10,000-step idea come from? Dr. Sean says it is not from science. In fact, it came from a commercial advertisement (商业广告) for a pedometer(计步器) called"10,000 steps Counter".

Dr. Gu, a heart doctor, does not trust round numbers like 10,000. She thinks such numbers are not always from real studies.

Walking more is good for health. Dr. Ding says walking over 7,000 steps is fine.If you already walk more than 10,000 steps, you don't have to stop. Don't worry if you can't reach 10,000 steps. Just walk a little more than you do now. This will help your health.

(1)、How many steps do many people think they must walk to keep fit?

A、Have worse memory. B、Get more heart problems. C、Feel much more tired every day. D、Have a greater chance of living longer.
(3)、Where did the 10,000-step idea first come from?

  • 18、 请阅读下面的短文,并从下列方框里的六个句子中选择五个还原到原文中,使原文的意思完整、连贯,并在答题卡上将相应的字母编号涂黑。

    A. The following tips will help you.

    B. Next, heat the water until it boils.

    C. Then roll them softly to loosen (松动) the shells.

    D. Besides boiling, there are other easy ways to cook eggs.

    E. Follow the tips above, and you' ll get pe rfect hard-boiled eggs.

    F. This cools the eggs down quickly and makes peeling much easier.

Hard-boiled eggs are delicious and healthy. However, many people find it difficult to cook them well and peel(剥壳) them easily.

First, place the eggs in a pot and add cold water until it reaches about 2.5 cm above the eggs. Adding a little salt can make peeling easier later.

Then turn off the heat and cover the pot. For hard-boiled eggs, let them sit in the hot water for 7-10 minutes. By changing the cooking time, you can get soft or firm yolks (蛋黄), just as you like. After that, take out the eggs and cool them quickly in cold water.

To peel the eggs, gently hit them on a hard surface to break them first. Now you can start peeling from the larger end. If the shell is difficult to take off, you can peel the egg under running water.

You can also steam, bake or fry them for different tastes.

For over 100 years, scientists have wondered how cats always land on their feet when they fall. Some parts of this mystery (谜) have been solved, but much remains unknown.Now, researchers in Japan have found it could be about the way a cat's spine(脊柱) is built.

In 1894, a scientist took the first pictures of a falling cat turning in the air. The cat turned itself over and landed on its feet. This seemed to go against the laws of physics. Scientists called it the"falling cat problem".

Normally, for an object to begin turning in midair, it must have a force (力)pushing on it. Scientists later showed that cats can turn over by using their own bodies.But exactly how they do it is still unknown.

Now, researchers at a Japanese University say the answer may lie in the cat's spine. They studied the spines of five dead cats. They looked at two parts: the front half and the back half. They found the front half could turn about three times as much as the back half. The front was much more flexible(灵活的).

The team also studied two living cats. Using a high-speed camera, they recorded each cat falling onto something soft from about one metre high. The videos showed that the cats did not turn all at once. Instead, the front half turned first, followed by the back half. This helps explain how cats can turn in the air.

(1)、What does the underlined word"it" refer to in paragraph 1?
    A、The cat. B、The way. C、The spine. D、The mystery.
(2)、When was the"falling cat problem" first recorded?
    A、In the 1890s. B、In the 1880s. C、In the 1900s. D、In the 1980s.
(3)、Which of the following best describes a cat's front half of the spine?
    A、Lighter. B、Shorter. C、More flexible. D、More colourful.
(4)、How can cats turn in the air according to the last two paragraphs?
A、By using a force pushing on them. B、By falling from a height within one metre. C、By landing softly on something from a high place. D、By turning their front half first and then the back half.
(5)、What is the best title for the passage?
A、Why Cats Have Flexible Spines B、How Cats Always Land on Their Feet C、Who Took the First Photos of Falling Cats D、What Scientists Still Do Not Know About Cats

Shenzhen is going to host the 2026 APEC Summit(亚太经合组织峰会). To better serve foreigners and people from Hong Kong and Macao, a new action plan has been launched. The plan focuses on making their daily life easier. It covers different fields like healthcare, travel and business environment.

The cross-border (跨境的) care will be much more convenient. For example,Shenzhen is working more closely with Hong Kong's healthcare system. Hospitals in both places will share medical records. This will help patients get better care without repeating tests.

It will also be easier for business people to travel. For foreign business people who set up companies in Qianhai, they can get two-year visas(签证), as well as their family members. Some business travellers can also get special travel cards or port visas when they arrive at the airport.
