Dough figurine making (面人制作) is a traditional Chinese art. It has a history of about 2,000 years in China. Though some people said it might vanish, dough figurine makers are still working very hard to keep it alive.

Peng Xiaoping is a great dough figurine making artist. He also teaches students about the traditional art. "I pass on not only the skills, but also the experience of running a business (企业)," he said. "If I only teach them how to make the figurines, my students won't be able to make a living from it, and it will not be possible to pass on the traditional art to more people."

Many young people are interested in the traditional art, but they're facing many ____. There're few professional (专业的) classes teaching students about this art. Also, because of the materials (材料), if dough figurine makers make any mistake, they can't fix it easily. Instead, they have to do it all over again. So it can be stressful. Dough figurine making needs great talent, a lot of thinking and practice.

Peng believes he can teach the young people in a new way. "My daughter is studying animation design (动画设计) at university, so I'm thinking about bringing animation and dough figurines together. Making dough figurine cartoons would be much more exciting than just passing on the art to the young people," he said.

We are excited about the future of the traditional art as dough figurine makers in China continue to look for ways to bring new life to their practice.

Tangchang, a town in Chengdu, is well-known for cloth shoes. With over 20 types, Tangchang cloth shoes are strong, soft, breathable and friendly to the environment. In 2018, they were added to Sichuan's intangible cultural heritage list (非物质文化遗产名录). 

63-year-old Lai Shufang has been making Tangchang cloth shoes for 40 years. Now she is very experienced. She said there are 32 steps to make a pair, but the most important step is making the soles. 

Layers (层) of white cloth are glued together with flour paste (糨糊). "To make good paste, we make it at a temperature of 85℃. If it's too low or too high, the paste will not work." Lai said. Then the pasted layers are dried and cut into different shapes. After this, the layered cloth is beaten again and again until it is tight (紧实的) enough to make soles and upper parts. The next step is to shape the two parts and glue them together. But still the soles edges look fluffy. Through repeated polishing and trimming (滚压和修整), the fluffy edges (毛边) will become smooth. Then the cloth shoes are ready. 

Lai's hard work touched her son Ai Peng. In 2015, Ai decided to leave his job and help his mother. He used Shu embroidery (蜀绣) to make the shoes look more beautiful and opened a cloth shoe store online. He also set up shop windows to show the steps of making shoes, helping more people learn about the art of cloth shoes.

There are many operas in China, and most of them have a long history. Here are some stories about different people's love for traditional (传统的) operas.

Because of social media, more people can enjoy traditional operas. It looks like a good way to spread (传播) traditional culture to more people.

One day, Mr. Li went into the classroom with some kites. The 1 were very surprised (吃惊的). He told them that kites were invented in China more than 2,000 years ago. Students learnt that Chinese make kites that means 2 important to them. At the end of the class, Mr. Li said, "I want 3 to make a kite. You will know more about 4 than before."

Judie decides to ask 5 dad for help. She enjoys 6 kites but it is her first time to make one.

"What do you think of 7 you see a kite?" her dad asks.

Judie 8 for a moment and answers, "Butterflies." Judie's dad agrees that it would be a good idea to make a butterfly kite, 9 they buy the things they need at once. They make a cross (十字) with some wood sticks, and then Judie paints a butterfly on 10 . Next they stick the paper on the cross. Finally, they tie (系) a long tail 11 the bottom (底部).

The next morning, they take 12 kite to the park and test it. "Wow! 13 high my butterfly flies!" Judie cries excitedly.

Her dad smiles and asks, "Julie, 14 you tell me why you like butterflies?"

Judie answers, "To me, butterflies 15 beauty and freedom (自由)!"

It was really a sunny day. My classmates and I went hiking together. We  songs and talked with each other happily along the way. We felt excited on   a wonderful day. 

However, things didn't go as well as we had thought. Two hours later, we thirsty and tired.  suggested we should take a bus, but we decided to walk to the destination(目的地). It was hot and we began to sweat(流汗). Each step seemed to become heavier and heavier, but  wanted to give up. We just walked and walked. 

When we were only 2, 500 metres away from the destination, I was too tired and walked slowly. Ireally wanted to give up. But my classmates to wait for me and they told me not to give up easily. At last, I thought I should try my best to do it because of their encouragement. When we  , we couldn't wait to shout and laugh. Then we  ourselves there. 

I thought this hiking  me a lesson. If we want to do  , we should never give up easily.

Jane: What did you do last weekend, Alex?

Alex: I went to the history museum and learned something . 

Jane: Did your parents go with you?

Alex: No. They were busy with work. So I my sister to go with me. 

Jane: What did you do there?

Alex: We learned many historical stories. The stories made me realize that it was difficult to live a peaceful life in the past. 

Jane: Did you buy  interesting for yourself?

Alex: No, I bought  for myself, but I bought some clothes for my parents. 

Jane: How did you like the trip?

Alex:  was so great. We really enjoyed the time there.
