Dear Rita,
How are you? Last time you asked me about the greatest i in my eyes. I have discussed it with my best friends, Anna, Sue and Kris. We have different ideas. Anna thinks it is the high speed r . Sue thinks it's the shared bike.Kris thinks it's online shopping. I prefer the internet.
The internet is just like a net, and it c us with the world. In the past, it was nearly impossible for people to communicate immediately with people in other countries. It would take a long time to reach their destinations (目的地), and not everyone could do that. But the internet has made the impossible possible. Now we can communicate with foreigners online.
The internet also helps us know what is happening around the world, and has made our life and work much easier. In recent years, shopping online is very p. We can just stay at home and o what we need online. We can also do online office work and distance education. Besides, we can watch movies, listen to music and even play games to relax ourselves on the internet.
So I think that the internet has changed our world! Although there are still many problems with the internet, they will be solved in the near future!
Yours,
Martin

Many of us want to keep thin and healthy. Here are some new studies.
They show that sleeping may help lose weight, but eating less may not! People without enough sleep are fatter, according to a study. The researchers found that there are three types of sleep time: short sleep, normal sleep, and long sleep. The study shows that, compared with normal sleepers, short sleepers have more fat on their bodies.
Dinner is important. But scientists at Osaka University, Japan, said this might not be true. They did a study with 20,000 university students. They found that if people don't eat dinner,it's easier for them to put on weight. One reason might be that people without dinner are hungrier, so they eat more during the day.
Watching videos makes you eat more. If you want to lose weight, stop watching videos! In a study, scientists asked people to watch a television show.
A. Many people don't eat dinner to lose weight.
B. They found that those who watched the TV show ate more food.
C. But do you really know how?
D. Less sleep means fatter legs and arms.
E. Those people who don't eat dinner can lose weight.
F. Then they studied 9,413 people from the US.

Ants have the ability to smell out cancerous cells (癌细胞) in humans, which has been found by a study, suggesting that they could be used to find the cancer in the future.Scientists from The French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) found that some ants have a good sense of smell. "But more tests must be carried out before they could be used in hospitals, "the team said.
The scientists did tests with 36 ants, smelling cells in the lab. First, they let the ants smell some cancerous human cells. Every time the ants smelt cancerous cells, they were rewarded with sugar solution (糖溶液). In the second step, the ants were put into two different smells. One was a new smell of healthy cells and the other was still the smell of the cancerous cells. Once the ants found the cancerous cells successfully, the researchers made them smell different cancerous cells. As such, the scientists found that ants could tell between cancerous and healthy cells and between two cancerous cells.
This isn't the first time that scientists have used the animals' sense of smell to find cancerous cells." Dogs are good at finding something with their noses. However, training dogs to do so needs several months or a year. On the other hand, ants can be easily raised in a short time. They are inexpensive, and hundreds of them can be trained with fewer times," scientists pointed out.
"This study shows that ants are able to learn very quickly. The way can be used for other tasks including finding danger or other illnesses, "scientists added.

Perhaps the use of fire is the most important event in human history. Lightning(闪电) would hit a tree in a forest and cause a large fire. People probably used the fire from lightning. People would use a small piece of burning wood from the fire at first.
With these fires, ancient people could cook food and keep warm. They could also see more easily at night. Of course, the piece of wood would soon stop burning, and they would not be able to create fire from it again. They had to find other ways to create fire by themselves. One way to create fire was by rubbing(摩擦) two pieces of wood together. This was difficult because it took a lot of time. Another way was by hitting two rocks together. This was also not an easy job. An easier way was by using a piece of glass and the light from the Sun to start a fire. However, it needed a good piece of glass and a sunny day for this.
Inventors in China created matches around 577AD. However, early matches were difficult to make and could be dangerous to use. People did not develop the really useful and safe matches until the 1850s.

Can you say the meaning of "zero"? Can you do addition and subtraction (加减法)? Most people can. But do you know bees can do these things too? A study shows that bees have even greater maths abilities. After some training, they can know the difference between even numbers(ending with 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8) and odd numbers (ending with 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9).
Some Australian scientists put up different cards with an odd or even number of triangles(三角形). They used the numbers 1 to 10. Then they trained the first group of bees to choose odd numbers and the second group to choose even numbers. If a bee flew to the right card, it would get sugar water. If it chose the wrong card, it got bitter (苦的)water.
In a short time, all the bees knew what odd numbers or even numbers were. They could fly to the right numbers 80% of the time. After that, the scientists added new cards with the numbers 11 and12. The bees never saw the numbers in their training before, but they could choose rightly 70% of the time. Surprisingly, the bees even learnt odd numbers more quickly than people.
How did the bees learn the numbers so fast? Scientists didn't have a clear idea. But they believe if they find the answer, it will help them build better and faster computers. After all, a bee's brain must be smaller than ours!
(1)、How does the passage start?A、By listing facts. B、By giving examples. C、By asking questions. D、By using pictures.(2)、Which of the following card should the second group of bees fly to?A、①④ B、②③ C、①② D、③④(3)、Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A、Our brains might be smarter than bees. B、Bees like bitter water rather than sugar water. C、After training, bees can learn even numbers more quickly than people. D、After training, bees can know the difference between even numbers and odd numbers.(4)、What can we learn from the last paragraph?A、Bees may be able to contribute to science and technology. B、Bees like odd numbers better than even numbers. C、Scientists know how bees learn numbers. D、Scientists know why bees can tell different numbers. -

Imagine a group of people are talking about something happily. But there is one man who cannot follow them. Why? He has a hearing problem. How can we help such people?
Now a new and exciting invention allows deaf people to see conversations in real time. Using augmented reality(AR, 增强现实技术) glasses and a smartphone, deaf people are also able to join in everyday conversations.
The AR glasses were developed by Dan Scarfe after he had a Christmas dinner with his family. The man saw his 97-year-oldhearing-impaired grandfather sitting alone in silence while the rest of the family were talking excitedly. The images of his grandfather always watching TV shows with subtitles(字幕) crossed Scarfe's mind. He suddenly realized that maybe the AR glasses could help.
Scarfe got to work, working with Nreal, an ARglasses maker. Six months later, a new pair of ARglasses came out. The glasses have a microphone that receives the audio(音频) from the environment and sends it to a connected smartphone. The phone then creates subtitles from that audio and these subtitles then appear on the user's glasses screen.
The company first tested the glasses in the UK. The UK was chosen as a testing ground as over 13million adults in Britain have hearing loss. However, when the product goes global, it could change the lives of millions of people.
This is a great change for the deaf. Mark Atkinson, who is using the AR glasses, said, "As a deaf person myself, I am blown away by this new technology. When I tried on the glasses for the first time, I was so happy. Real-time subtitles made me become part of the conversation as never before. "
(1)、What tools must a deaf person have if he wants to join in the conversation?①A microcomputer. ②A smartphone.
③A pair of AR glasses. ④A laptop.
A、①② B、②③ C、①③ D、②④(2)、Who made Dan Scarfe want to develop the AR glasses?A、His father. B、His friend. C、His grandfather. D、A glasses maker.(3)、Why was the UK chosen as a testing ground for the AR glasses?A、Because it has a large population with hearing loss. B、Because the company Nreal is based in the UK. C、Because the government provided the money. D、Because Dan Scarfe is from the UK.(4)、What does the underlined part "am blown away by" probably mean?A、Be scared of. B、Be excited at. C、Be worried about. D、Be bored with.
