Duck is a traditional meat in China, and the dish was called shāo yāzi (simply"roast duck") in the TangDynasty. A fresh duck was roasted over a wood fire. On this basis, the cooking method was improved by later people.
Its cooking method was mentioned in the book Complete Recipes for Dishes and Beverages in 1330 by HuSihui, who worked at the imperial (皇帝的) kitchen. It was one of the main dishes on imperial kitchen menus by then (the Yuan Dynasty).
In 1368, the Ming Dynasty was founded, and the capital lay in Nanjing. Imperial chefs cooked a duck by hanging it over a wood fire, making it crisp (酥脆的) and smell great, fatty but not greasy (油腻的). The emperor liked it very much, so the dish was officially named"roast duck".
During the rule of the Yongle Emperor, the third emperor of the Ming Dynasty, he ordered that the capital be moved from Nanjing to Beijing. In this way, the roast duck recipe was also brought to Beijing. After that, the popularity of roast duck gradually spread to the local people. With its popularity in Beijing, this dish became known as"Beijing roast duck".
In 1416, the first known restaurant of roast duck opened in Beijing, called Bianyifang. There they roasted the duck in a closed oven (烤炉) having first heated the walls of the oven with sorghum stalks (高粱茎) to give a crispy finish to the duck.
In 1864, another famous roast duck restaurant opened, called Quanjude. There they used a different way of cooking: hanging the duck to roast over the fire in an open oven. Styles of these two restaurants still exist today, so we suggest you ▲ while you' re visiting Beijing.
By the mid-20th century, Beijing roast duck had become a symbol of the traditional Chinese dishes and the top choice dish served when foreign leaders visited our country.

By 25 Feb 2025, the Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2 became a hit around the world, getting over 13.8 billion yuan and reaching the top of the animated film list in the world. Behind its success is Lyu Yanting, the 38-year-old voice actor of the main character, Nezha.
At first, Lyu thought it was just another dubbing (配音) job. But as she studied Nezha's story, she discovered a new side to the hero. Dubbing Ne Zha 2 even changed Lyu herself. Once quiet and shy, she became more outgoing."Ne Zha 2's fiery spirit touched me. I grew along with the character," she laughed.

Do you often walk to the supermarket, school, or your parents' workplace? Imagine a city where you can reach most of these places in just 15 minutes. This is the idea behind 15-minute cities.
A 15-minute city is an idea to make sure that everything you need for daily life, such as work, school and shopping, is within a 15-minute journey from your home. The idea of 15-minute cities was first introduced byProfessor Carlos Moreno in 2016. It became popular in around 2023. Many people moved to less crowded areas because of difficulties in moving around. But they later missed city conveniences and wanted better transport systems. So 15-minute cities became a way to achieve the goal of having both good transport and services. Many cities are being encouraged to take on the 15-minute city idea. Paris is creating a 15-minute city to cut car pollution.People will find workplaces, schools, and shops on foot or by bike. The city is building bike paths and green spaces like parks to fight heat and floods. Saudi Arabia is building"The Line" in 2022, where people can reach parks in 2minutes and all services in 5 minutes. A high-speed train connects communities, taking only 20 minutes to travel across the city.
However, challenges exist(存在). Some places are too hot or too cold for walking or cycling all year. Also, it is difficult and expensive for governments to change a traditional city into a walkable city. Finally, what people need every day like food often comes from far away. That may cause a lot of carbon emissions(碳排放).
Can your city become more like a 15-minute city by adding bike lanes, local markets, or improving public transport? Even small changes, like building homes near schools or planting trees, can make a big difference.
(1)、When did the idea of 15-minute cities become popular?A、In 2016. B、In 2022. C、In around 2023. D、In 2024.(2)、What does the underlined word"they" in Paragraph 2 refer to?A、People who enjoy a 15-minute journey. B、People who moved to more crowded areas. C、People who have trouble in moving around. D、People who support the idea of 15-minute cities.(3)、What are the challenges of creating 15-minute cities?①Terrible weather conditions. ②Low carbon emissions.
③High cost of changing traditional cities. ④Difficulty in choosing transport.
A、①② B、①③ C、②④ D、③④(4)、What's the writer's attitude towards the future of 15-minute cities?A、Hopeful. B、Interested. C、Worried. D、Doubtful. -

Sometimes, you won't need chopsticks— you just need your hands and a good appetite (胃口) to eat theChinese street snack roujiamo, which is translated as"meat in a bun".
Chinese people began to eat buns as early as the Qin and Zhou dynasties. Roujiamo has a unique (独特的) meat filling that dates back to the Warring States Period. While the exact invention date of roujiamo is unclear, most people in Xi' an regard the street snack as its own, even though its popularity has led to its happy consumption all over the country. A visit to Xi' an wouldn't be completed without eating roujiamo, where some people living in this city compare a day without eating roujiamo to not having eaten anything at all.
Most roujiamo will most likely be made with a pork filling, in which the meat is given a treatment of stewing(炖) in soup with over 20 spices(香料) for hours, and for the strongest taste, some even suggest cooking the meat a day before to really let the spices go in. Some other methods use fewer spices to prepare the meat, but if you save the spices you will miss out on the taste.
Every roujiamo street seller cooks with his own unique way with his own style of stewing meat, but when visiting Xi' an, roujiamo is usually served fresh and given to the hungry customer in a paper bag to be enjoyed on the spot(当场). An online video shows the skill of opening a bun, before shopping up (切碎) the stewed meat, putting it in a paper bag, and then adding some gravy(肉汁) over it (warning: the video may make you very hungry).
