Heye and Huahua, two famous pandas at Chengdu Panda Base (熊猫基地), almost everyone in China knows them and it seems that it is good luck to see these two pandas successfully through crowds around their panda house. Even some people wait at the gate of Panda Base at 4:00 a.m. just for seeing them. And as long as people have free time, they will watch videos about the two pandas on the Internet.

Heye is famous for its lovely look. Heye is a male panda more than three years old and weighs about 120 kilograms (162.6 grams at birth). Its body is covered with black and white fur (皮毛), which looks very pretty. Heye panda is always outgoing, and keeps moving its legs when eating like giving a show of a lovely swing dance.

Huahua is a female panda, Heye's twin sister. Huahua is thinner (but 200 grams at birth) with a very cute body and soft, smooth fur, which has a beautiful brown and white color. Huahua is shy and likes to play quietly in the sun, she is friendly to others even though Heye takes away her favorite fruit from her mouth.

In the base, Heye and Huahua's life is very comfortable. They can enjoy fresh bamboo and a lot of rich meals every day, but also can freely move in the panda house and enjoy the love of people.

Hongcun is a beautiful village in Anhui.

The quiet village is near Mount Huangshan. It has a long history. The old houses keep their styles (风格) from the old times. If you walk on the old streets, you'll feel like traveling back in the past.

Besides old houses, Hongcun has a famous pond (池塘) called Moon Pond. It is a large half-moon lake in the center of the village. It is always a popular place.

In Chinese culture, the full moon stands for prosperity (繁荣). Although the full moon carries that good wish, the half moon appears for longer than the full moon. So people made the half-moon pond, and they hoped they might always keep prosperity.

Hongcun became famous when it appeared in the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon by Ang Lee. If you go to Anhui, don't miss it.

Some animals in the sea sleep in strange ways. Fish sleep with their eyes open. They seem to look ahead far into the sea while they rest. Sea otters (海獭) sometimes sleep in beds of the plants that grow in the sea. This keeps them from moving away. Parrotfish blow something from their mouths when they are ready to sleep. Then a bubble will be formed around them. The bubble protects them from harm while they sleep.

Some animals sleep under the ground. Chipmunks (花栗鼠) sleep curled up (蜷缩) in a ball. Their beds are made of leaves and grass. In winter, they sleep for two weeks and wake up to eat the stored food. Then they go back to sleep for another two weeks before waking up again. Some desert frogs dig underground holes during the hot, dry season. A frog may stay in its hole for months.

High above the ground, monkeys find leafy places in trees each evening before they sleep. The tall trees help to keep monkeys safe during the night. Some insects even sleep under the leaf that will be their next meal. A bee may climb down into a flower to rest. When it climbs out the next morning, it is rested and ready for work.

Have you eaten a "China burger" yet? In recent years, "China Burger" fast food restaurants have opened and become more and more popular. Although they go by different names, like Tastien and Ranxiong, they are like McDonald's, KFC or Burger King, but more Chinese.

I wanted to try something special from Tastien. So a few days ago, I got a Peking duck burger with a drink. When I got my food, I loved the packaging (包装). The paper bag and boxes came in red, white and blue colors. They also had the words "Made in China" on them. The burger is pretty good. It has the Peking duck meat with some cucumber, lettuce (生菜) and plum sauce (梅子酱). I really like their freshly made bread. It's better than the bread from other brands. Although the Chinese bread used was not perfect, the China Burger gave people a more Chinese taste. It opens the door for me to try more different burgers. I'd still like to eat more from this and other China Burger restaurants in the future.

Tastien started selling burgers in 2017, but since then it has grown fast. With its slogan (标语) of "Chinese stomachs (胃) love Chinese burgers," Tastien now has over 5,400 stores, making it the fourth-largest burger chain in China. A Tastien customer (顾客) spends just 19 yuan for every meal, far less than that spent at McDonald's and KFC. And these "Chinese burgers" are often on sale for as little as 7 yuan.

The popularity also has something to do with a growing sense of national pride (民族自豪感) among Chinese consumers. Chinese products are getting more fans and young Chinese consumers think "Made in China" is not bad at all.

Her father, a cook, took her into the kitchen. He asked his daughter to pour water into three pans (平底锅) and put them on the fire to boil (煮沸). After the water boiled, he put some potatoes into the first pan, some eggs into the second pan and coffee beans into the last one.

After 20 minutes, her father turned off the stove (炉子), took out the potatoes and eggs and put them in a plate. He poured the coffee into a cup.

"Dear, what do you see?" he asked his daughter: "Potatoes, eggs, and coffee," she said.

"Touch (触摸) the potatoes," he told her. She did and felt that the potatoes were soft. After that he asked her to take an egg and break it. She found that the egg was hard. At last, her father asked her to taste the coffee.

"What's the meaning, Father?" she asked.

"The strong and hard potatoes became soft and weak after boiling. The fragile (脆弱的) eggs became hard in the boiling water. The coffee beans were very special, but they changed the water around them," her father said, "As you can see, each thing responded (反应) differently to the boiling water."

"Who are you?" asked her father. "When you have problems, what will you do? Are you potatoes, eggs, or coffee?"

"Got it," the girl said with a big smile.

I love my family very much, but I once really wanted my own place. As far as I could remember, I had been eating the food my parents told me to eat, wearing the clothes my parents (buy)for me and doing the things my parents wanted me to do.

Finally, the day came when I had my own place. When I started my (one) year of senior high(高中),I was allowed to rent(租) a flat near the school. My flat, about two hours' (drive) from my parents' house, wasn't very big or very nice, but it was my place. It really provided me with the (feel) of freedom.
