2、When I was a teenager, I fell in love with birds and birdwatching. For my 13th birthday, I received my first "real" binoculars. Growing up near Conwy Mountain in North Wales gave me the perfect place to1 and learn about birds. The mountain was surrounded (环绕) by beautiful forests and fields, which were2 to many different species (物种). I often birdwatched alone3 it wasn't "cool" at school. Birdwatching made me happy and helped me get away from problems at home. It was my way of finding peace and quiet.
At school, I sometimes got in4 for "daydreaming" because I was watching birds outside the classroom window. I would often get distracted (分心的) by the birds flying by, making it5 to listen to the teacher carefully. I also kept notes about the birds I saw. I made some mistakes as I was still learning about the different species. However, each mistake was an important6, and I always wanted to be better.
One summer, my family visited the Scottish Highlands, and I was excited to see new birds. I studied a bird book with maps to prepare,7 of seeing rare birds like the Osprey. I finally saw one through my binoculars, and a warden (看门人) let me use a special one for a8. It was amazing and felt like a dream come true. Later, in mid-Wales, we searched for a Red Kite, a rare bird at the time. After days of trying, we9 saw one flying over a hill. That unforgettable moment stays with me all my life.
Looking back, birdwatching is much easier today. There's more information, and young birdwatchers can talk with each other easily. I hope more young people can10 the joy of birdwatching, just like I did. Hopefully, these days, it is easier to meet other young birdwatchers. I do hope so.

16、The Amanalco-Valle de Bravo Basin contains (包含) forests and more than 1,770 bodies of water. Ten percent of the water consumed (消耗) in Mexico City comes from this area, and it is also home to the monarch butterfly. Every year, it receives around 2 million visitors. Tourists are drawn to the region for its forests, waterfalls and lakes.
As a child, Cruz Avila used to walk through the forests every day. She always picked wood and medicinal plants. She also learned to find birds and identify different trees near her home. Avila believed that listening to a waterfall is good medicine for the tired body.
In recent years, residents (居民) of the forest communities suffered from tourism that's not environmentally friendly. Some visitors have damaged forests and lakes there. One of the affected lakes is EI Sumidero, which is home to crayfish and other animals.
For this reason, in 2021, the local people created an organization to deal with these damaging activities in the forests. They designed a tourism plan for the protection of their forests. Avila said her community, San Miguel Tenextepec, has developed a sustainable tourism plan based on hiking and workshops. They also planned to have a viewing platform ready by 2023. As for Avila, she planned to start developing her hiking project. "I'm going to take visitors to a place called EI Caballero. In addition, I'll offer them a workshop to make wine and bread." she said.
"To us, forests are our home. We want to take care of them as we take care of our home. We invited hikers and tourists to come to see our home, to get to know and enjoy this place with respect and care," Avila told a reporter.

17、I can't remember the last time I used cash (现金) in China. With WeChat and Alipay, I can pay for everything with my mobile phone. But when I went back to the UK for a holiday, I had some culture shock in my home country. Many things I thought of as commonplaces (寻常事物) in my everyday life in China were quite fresh in the eyes of my old friends.
Mobile payment wasn't accepted in most shops. I had to take out my wallet and went back to using notes. I couldn't order takeout at any time I like because the delivery service would take too much time. If I wanted to try something delicious, I would have to go to the restaurant in person.
Of course, we can pay electronically in the UK. People have their bank cards. But most people still use cash. They worry that using mobile payment will lead to their money being stolen by online thieves. They don't put too much trust in mobile payment systems. This is understandable. According to a 2022 report, more than £4 billion was stolen online in the UK and online shopping accounted (占) about one third of the thefts.
But still, it seems that mobile or at least digital (数字的) payment will lead the way in the future in the UK, just as it is here now in China. According to the gov.uk website, the Bank of England is now looking at using a digital pound. But the real question is: Will the British public be willing to trust it?
(1)、What can we learn from Paragraph 1?A、The writer seldom uses WeChat and Alipay in China. B、People usually have culture shock when living in other countries. C、Using mobile payment is a common thing in China. D、The writer's old friends probably think using cash is a fresh thing.(2)、Why did the writer have culture shock in the UK?A、Because mobile payment was totally unaccepted. B、Because the life there wasn't as convenient as that in China. C、Because he couldn't order takeouts with his mobile phone. D、Because the food in the UK wasn't as delicious as that in China.(3)、What is the writer's purpose in mentioning the 2022 report?A、To prove that mobile payment is popular in the UK. B、To show that few people in the UK want to pay electronically. C、To show that there is really a danger in mobile payment. D、To prove that people should never depend on mobile payment.(4)、What's the writer's attitude (态度) towards the digital pound?A、Doubtful. B、Hopeful. C、Satisfied. D、Interested.(5)、In which part of a newspaper can we probably read the passage?A、HISTORY. B、OPINION. C、TRAVEL. D、HEALTH. -
18、Most babies' first words are something like "Dada" or "Mama". Mine was "Ahoy!" instead. But that is considered normal when you're born and raised on a pirate (海盗) ship.
My father was the first mate (大副) on the large sailing ship known as the Salty Dog. He was the trusted friend of the captain—in charge of keeping the sailors in line and keeping the ship in good shape and on course. My mother was the lookout who climbed high up to the crow's nest (桅杆瞭望台) with her spyglass to look out for other ships and signs of land. When I was a baby, she always held me as she climbed up to the top part of the ship and showed me the world.
When I wasn't in the crow's nest, I was in the ship's galley with the cook, learning how to make food for the sailors who had no table manners and never remembered to say "please" or "thank you". Food had to be good, or else they'd throw their cups at your head. I learned to stay out of range (范围) after the food was served.
As pirates, the sailors attacked ships and grabbed valuable things. Because I was still a child, I wasn't allowed to join in that. When I was five, we sailed into the Montego Bay. The local police caught all the sailors including my parents as soon as they landed. I was left alone on the Salty Dog ship.
Fifteen years later, when my parents left the prison, they got on the ship where I had learned to sail in their absence. We set out once again on the sea. But this time, I was the one wearing the captain's hat. And we set out not as pirates. We set out to help those who met troubles on the sea.
(1)、Which might be the writer's father's task?A、Repairing the ship. B、Cooking for sailors. C、Watching out for other ships. D、Giving orders to sailors as the captain.(2)、What do we know about the writer from Para. 3?A、He was not polite to the sailors. B、He knew a lot of table manners. C、He ran away after taking food to the sailors. D、He didn't mind whether the food was delicious.(3)、What happened after the writer arrived at the Montego Bay?A、His family bought a lot of valuable things. B、His parents were caught by the police. C、The police welcomed them and offered help. D、The sailors sent his family including him to prison.(4)、What did the writer mean by saying "I was the one wearing the captain's hat"?A、He loved the captain's hat. B、He was going to save sailors. C、He would set out as a pirate. D、He became the captain of the ship.(5)、Which word can describe the writer according to the last paragraph?A、Kind. B、Smart. C、Careful. D、Open-minded. -
19、There is a big difference between knowing a country from social media and experiencing it in person. This is what a group of 15 students from the US1 on an exchange visit to China.
For Ian Sierra, a 10th grader in the group, this was his first time travelling abroad, and he was2 at first. "I felt if I messed up a bit, I would leave a bad impression," he said.

"If I hadn't8 this trip, I wouldn't have learnt so much about Chinese culture and the Chinese people," said Sierra.
For Sierra, the trip even influenced his9 choices. He said, "I used to dream of being a Maths teacher in the US. Now, I'm10 teaching English in Beijing or Shanghai in the future."
