Giving a presentation can be challenging. You need to prepare a lot, organize your content clearly, and deliver it confidently. Your body language plays a key role in this. Here are some useful tips to help you.

Position

Stand facing your audience directly. And try not to look down at your notes too often. Just look at your notes quickly if you have to. This helps you stay in touch with the people listening and shows you' re actively communicating with them.

Gesture

Be mindful of unnecessary movements. Don't touch your hair, nose, or play with pens— these habits can distract your audience. Keep your arms relaxed at your sides.At first, this might feel unnatural, but it makes you appear more in control. Also, don't cross your arms or put your hands in your pockets.

Posture

Use  posture  to  make  your  points  clear.  Keep  your  feet  apart  and  stand confidently. This way of standing can make you feel more comfortable and ensure everyone can hear you clearly.

Eye Contact

Don't scan the room quickly. First, look at one person in one place in the room for a short time. In this way, you' re talking to everyone in the room, and it makes your presentation more fun for them. Remember, confident body language can make your presentation truly effective.

Communication is more than just words. In fact, a famous study by psychologist(心理学家) Albert Mehrabian found that only 7% of emotional meaning is conveyed through words alone. The tone of voice accounts for 38%, and a huge55% comes from body language—— facial expressions, gestures, and posture. This shows how important non-verbal languages are in expressing true feelings.

To understand this, experts often group body language into several types. Some actions are inborn, like jumping when scared. Others are direct reactions, like stepping back from something dangerous. A third type includes learned habits, like crossing your arms when you feel cold or need comfort. Our culture then teaches us the social rules for these actions.

This knowledge is very useful in real life. Teachers watch students' body language to see if they are paying attention. In safety, trained people notice signs of nervousness,which can be helpful. Doctors also watch patients' body language for information about how they feel. By learning to"listen" with our eyes, we can understand others better, build stronger connections, and improve our communication in everyday life.

Last Tuesday,  something unusual  happened at the  Green Apple  Supermarket where 15-year-old Lucy worked part-time. She was helping at the checkout counter when she noticed a man in a blue jacket. The man wasn't in line to buy anything.Instead, he stood very still, and his eyes fixed closely on the cashier(收银员)' s open drawer. Lucy remembered a safety training video about how people normally act when relaxed. This man's look was abnormal and different.

As Lucy slowly moved closer to organize some goods, she also tried to make eye contact with the man. The man noticed Lucy.  Suddenly, the man's nose flared(翕动)——a quick, deep breath. Lucy's heart beat faster. She had read that such a sharp intake  of air can  signal  a person  is  preparing to  act,  often  because  of  stress  or excitement.  The cashier was counting money. The man in blue took a small  step forward.

Thinking quickly, Lucy didn't shout. She calmly walked to the cashier and said loudly,"Excuse me, manager on duty, can you help with a price check at Aisle 5?" The manager, understanding the coded alarm(加码警报), immediately came to her. The sudden movement made the man in blue a little nervous. He then pretended to look at a magazine and soon walked out of the store. Later, the manager praised Lucy for her attention to details and calm action."You read the situation perfectly, not the words,because he never spoke a word," the manager said. Lucy learned that day that the body often speaks the truth that the mouth tries to hide.

Hello everyone! My name is Zhao Rui. Today, I'd like to share my personal 1  about eye contact. As a middle school student from Shenzhen, I' ve learned that it's not just a part of body language - it's a key to good 2 .
