Nowadays, kids all over the world are doing more and more extreme (极限的) sports. The most popular ones include inline skating (轮滑), BMX cycling (自行车越野), snowboarding, skateboarding and bungee jumping (蹦极跳). Why are they so extreme? They all have a few things in common: they're fast, dangerous and usually send people flying through the air. 

These sports started in the streets, but they were made popular by ESPN, the American TV sports network. ESPN held its first international extreme sports competition, called the "X Games," in 1995. The X Games soon became a twice-yearly event with winter and summer games. 

Now, some Chinese kids are falling in love with these cool sports. In cities like Beijing and Guangzhou, in the parks or streets, kids often practice inline skating or skateboarding, learning new tricks (花样) from their friends. Extreme sports are becoming so popular, even the Olympic Games are starting to welcome them. Mountain biking is now a part of the summer Games, and snowboarding is in the winter Games. 

BMX cycling was added to the Beijing Games in 2008. "It's a change that we can't stop," said Mark Ryerson, a US Olympic historian. "The Olympics have to look into sports that people are interested in." 

The 2022 World Cup ended in Doha, but people's love for football never ends. Yet not many people know that Zibo (in Shandong province) is called "the home of football". It's the birthplace of the ancient Chinese sport of cuju. In 2004, football's governing body FIFA said cuju is the earliest form of football. 

Cuju was an ancient Chinese game with the kicking of a ball. The word cu means to kick. Ju is about an ancient type of leather ball. It has feathers or grain chaff (米糠) inside. 

The ancient Chinese historical book Zhan Guo Ce says cuju was a fun game over 2,000 years ago. People played cuju for entertainment (娱乐). But during the Han Dynasty (朝代), soldiers in the army played cuju for military training. During the Tang Dynasty, women played cuju at the royal court for the emperors. Cuju was most popular in the Song Dynasty when people of every class (阶层) played it. Yet, the 2,000-year-old game slowly got out of people's lives during the Ming Dynasty. 

Now cuju has also become a bridge for cultural exchanges. During the World Cup in Qatar, a China-Qatar youth exchange activity took place in Doha. Li Weipeng, a seventh-generation inheritor (传承人) of cuju, showed Chinese and Qatari youth players how to play cuju. He led them to wear traditional cuju costumes and get a taste of the ancient game. 

Li said that the cuju activity in Qatar attracted many football faris. They cheered (欢呼) when he did different cuju moves. 

Even when Jim was a baby, he always wanted to go somewhere fast. As he grew, he loved to1 . As a student, he often took part in local races (赛跑) and was in a running club.
