In 2002, Winston Churchill was chosen by the British people as the "greatest Briton". The great British men behind him were Shakespeare, Newton and Darwin. But many people did not know that Churchill was thought to be a bad boy when he was a child. 

At the age of seven, Winston Churchill was sent to a boarding school named St. George. 

The school rules were strict. He often got serious punishment. Churchill cried loudly and kicked wildly when he was beaten. At the end of the term, he returned home with a report card and pains all over his body. The report card said that he was "naughty". 

At the age of twelve, his father sent him to Harrow Public School, which was famous for training English gentlemen. Because he failed the entrance exam, he was placed in the last group  of the class with the worst grades. He fell behind the others in study. He gave many people the impression of low energy, strangeness and lawlessness. Fortunately, he still had a friend, his grandfather:. The American of great wealth who had experienced the world said, "Let him go!As long as boys have the chance to show their talents, they are sure to become better:"Churchill kept the words of his grandfather in mind, and secretly looked for such a chance in his heart. 

Many years later, Churchill was a successful politician and writer. He worked as a reporter, as Secretary of the Navy, and as Prime Minister(首相)of the  United Kingdom. He said, "My grandfather taught me that boys must choose their own path. I don't have special talents and my success is by working hard. "

Gong Zizhen was a famous poet and thinker in the Qing dynasty. He was born in Zhejiang in 1792. When he was young, he worked very hard and was crazy about reading. In 1839, Gong Zizhen wrote over 300 poems. Most of them were about1 problems. One of them was Miscellanies ofthe Year 1839(V)(《己亥杂诗之五》)and it 2 showed his strong feelings of saving the people and doing something for the country. 

At first, Gong wrote about what was happening at that time. As an official of the Qing dynasty, Gong3 Lin Zexu's idea to stop the opium(鸦片)business. However, they 4 and Gong had to go back to his hometown. 

Then, Gong wrote about the falling sun. In Chinese poetry, to write about the falling sun is to write about the passing of5 and the loss of hope. It was clear that the poet was6 to leave Beijing because he had many friends there. He was also sad that he lost the 7 to work for the country. 

Gong's sadness was true, but it didn't go on too long. At the end of the poem, Gong8 himself to the "fallen blossoms(落花)". He didn't say much about his 9 any more. Instead, he told readers to10 fallen blossoms would nurture(滋养)flowers'growth next spring. As a patriot(爱国主义者), he still cared about the country and would do something for the country in other ways.
