How to be a Better Teenager

Hello, everyone! Today I'd like to share my ideas about how to be a better teenager.

I'm Mike. Last summer, my grandmother introduced me to Baduanjin, a traditional Chinese exercise. At first, I was doubtful about how slow, simple movements could make a difference. However, I decided to give it a try, and it became one of the most valuable experiences of my life. 

Every morning, my grandmother and I visited a nearby park, where she guided me through the eight movements of Baduanjin. The first exercise, "Holding the Sky with Both Hands", felt strange at first. I stretched（伸展）my arms up while keeping my feet firmly（稳固的）on the ground. Though it looked easy, I quickly felt my muscles（肌肉）working. 

As the days passed, I began to enjoy practicing Baduanjin. The movements were slow and graceful（优雅的），like a dance. My favorite was"Drawing the Bow to Shoot the Eagle", where I imagined holding a bow and arrow（弓箭）, making me feel strong and focused. 

What surprised me most was how calm and relaxed I felt after every practice. Deep breathing and easy stretches cleared my mind like magic. Even when preparing for midterm exams, my stress seemed lighter, and I felt I had more energy. My grandmother smiled and told me, "Baduanjin isn't just good for your body, it also helps your heart feel peaceful. "

By summer's end, I had learned all eight exercises and began practicing at home. Now, whenever I'm tired or stressed, I take a few minutes to do Baduanjin. Baduanjin has taught me the importance of balance in both exercise and life—a gift I will always treasure. 

Ole is a student from Norway at East China Normal University. He first visited China in 2016, and since then, he (develop) a deep interest in traditional Chinese culture. Last year, he and his team (win) the Shanghai International Students Dragon Boat Race. It was the team's sixth win in a row and his (two) time winning the first prize. "I was introduced to the dragon boat racing in the spring of 2023. My teacher noticed my strong arms and encouraged me (try) it, " said Ole. When Ole was asked the secret of his success, he replied, "There is no'I',  only' we'. My teammates are international students coming  different countries. Before we became the champions（冠军）, we practiced rowing three times a week, trying to match the strokes（划桨动作） with drumbeat. "

At first, we weren't very good. We did not know what the problem was. However, with great efforts, we learned that teamwork is the key. Although we are culturally different, we are one team in the race. Before each race, the team would stand in  circle and cheer loudly. "Taking part in this sport, we realized the (important) of cooperation（合作）. We trained hard, and each stroke brings us much (close) to understanding the tradition of the Dragon Boat Festival, " said Ole (proud). 

Ever since I was a little girl, I' ve loved music. While most kids played outside in the sun, I felt happy inside my house and1 my guzheng for hours. Playing the guzheng took me to a 2 world where I could feel free from worries.

A positive habit is any repeated practice you do that improves your life. This improvement（改进）can make you happier and give your life a sense of purpose. To get started, you can choose one small habit that works for you. 

Spend time outside.

What better way to be reminded of the beauty in our lives than spending time in the beautiful world around us? Pick a time—like after the workday—to step out and enjoy the gifts of this world. 

Make a short list of goals.

Making a list of goals can be a great way to keep your day productive. It can help remind you to get them done. Besides, you can even use the list to make your day less stressful（压力大的）. If you have a busy day, you can add a few rest goals to the list-like" take a 10-minute break from homework". 

It can be a better choice than staring（盯着看）at your phone. Your phone screen makes you even more nervous before you turn the lights off. Though e-books are popular, try using a physical book or an audio book. And remember to choose a book that is calming to help you fall asleep. 

 Everyone is going to face a day when they just can't follow their positive habits. That's okay! The beauty of a habit is that you can always pick up your positive habit again!

China has become the world's largest producer and market of EVs（电车）. According to a report, 9. 58 million Chinese-made EVs were produced and 9. 49 million were sold in 2023. Among the total sales, 1. 2 million EVs were exported（出门）。

The Chinese government has been encouraging EVs as part of its effort for green, high-quality development. As a result, China's EV industry develops very quickly. At Auto（汽车）China 2004. BYD was the only company showing EVs there. At Auto China 2024, there were 278 different EV models on show, including BYD, SAIC, Geely, Li Auto, Nio, Xpeng and other brands. 

China's EV industry is now facing both challenges and chances. It's reported that 71% of EV brands cut prices in 2023. EV makers without the ability of innovation（创新）will face growing risks. In order to be both green and smart, Chinese EV makers are trying hard to improve technologies like battery qualities and AI support. 

At the same time, the government is adding even more charging points（充电站）. On the other hand, more Chinese people are aware of the environmental problems. It is encouraging more buyers to choose EVs. 

EVs are the way of the future. In an ideal world, everyone benefits from innovation and green transport. Some might get there sooner than others, and will gain greater rewards. It is very likely that China will hold the lead. 

Do you know kiwi, a kind of fruit? Its Chinese name is mihoutao. Can you guess what"the running kiwi" is? It is a bird and it lives only in New Zealand. Its sound is like"kee…wee. . . ", so people name it kiwi（鹬鸵）. It is as big as a chicken. Its mouth is long and its eyes are very small. It has two feet and each foot has four toes. It has hair on its body, but it doesn't have any feathers（羽毛）like other birds. So it can't fly at all. 

The kiwi has a rather slow-moving lifestyle. This is mainly because of its special physical features and the environment it lives in. With its small eyes, short and stout legs, which are more suitable for slow movements. Also, the thick vegetation（植被）in its native New Zealand forests doesn't require it to move quickly. 

A kiwi likes to have a lot of trees around it. It sleeps in the tree holes all day because the sunlight hurts its eyes. It always comes out for food at night. It can't see well but it can smell things with its nose. It is the only bird that can smell things very well. The kiwi's eggs are very big. Now Kiwis are threatened often by human activity. People may never see them again so they can't kill kiwis any more. New Zealanders want their kiwis to live.

As we all know, AI changes our lives greatly. 

To help students stay healthy and happy, the Education Department of China has made new rules for middle and high schools. One important change is the" two-day weekend" policy（政策）。High school students in grades 10 and 11 can now rest on both Saturday and Sunday. Seniors in grade 12 get one full day off each weekend. This policy gives students more time to sleep, play sports, or do things they enjoy. Cities like Hangzhou and Changsha are already following these rules. 

Schools are also making daily schedules better for students. For example, some schools start morning classes 20 minutes later than before, so students can sleep a little longer. Evening study time has been shortened, and homework is now limited to 90 minutes for middle schoolers and 60 minutes for younger students. Teachers believe these changes help students focus better in class and learn more effectively. 

However, not everyone feels the same way. Most students are happy because they have time to read, draw, or play with friends on weekends. "I finally get to practice basketball, " says Li Ming, a 10th grade student from Beijing. But some parents worry their children might spend too much time watching TV or playing computer games instead of studying. Others fear that less school time could lower exam scores. 

To solve these problems, schools are offering fun after-school activities like art clubs, science groups, or soccer teams. The government is also stopping tutoring schools from giving extra lessons on weekends. This way, all students can have equal time to rest and grow. 

These changes show that China wants students to be healthy, creative, and ready for the future——not just good at exams. While there are still challenges, the new rules are a big step toward balancing school life and well-being. 

Li Ziqi is a Chinese vlogger from the countryside in Sichuan Province. She is knownher traditional Chinese cooking skills as well as other artistic skills. 

In Li's early childhood, her parents ended their marriage and  (leave) her to live with her grandparents. Her grandfather used to cook in local ceremonies in the village. He encouraged her(improve) her cooking skills.

When I was 12 years old, I already knew that my teen years were going to be the worst years of my life. I was a total outsider, bullied（欺凌）at school. I felt completely1 in my small town. 

But by starting to do2 work when I was 14, I turned my problem into a passion for helping others. The opportunity to practice kindness make me feel like my life had a greater3 . The more positive energy I shared, the more kindness and appreciation I received. I realized that my purpose in life would be to reach out to people,4 teenagers, and help them feel less lonely.

My first advice is that if you want to remember something well, you have to review it regularly（有规律地）. After you learn the material, you need to review it right away, then two days later, then a week later, then two weeks later, and then a month later. 

My second advice is to mark the important parts of your book. This will help you in two ways. On the one hand, it will help you concentrate on（专注于）the most important parts. It is always easier to remember only the key points. When you open your book, the colored parts will show you the most important parts at once. In this way, you needn't read every word again. 

 One good time for memorizing information is in the evening. Review what you have learnt before going to bed. It will be kept in your mind deeply. The other good time is in the morning because you have just rested and your brain is fresh and clear. 

Remember all the advice above, and your memory will be better and better. 

In the ocean world, there is a kind of amazing fish called the angelfish（神仙鱼）. It can change from female（雌性的）to male（雄性的）. The change happens for an exact reason. 

The angelfish live in groups. Each group has one male fish, which is blue in colour, and four female fish, which are yellow in colour. The male angelfish is the strongest and largest member of the group. He is the one who protects and looks after the females and acts like their" safety guard". 

When the male dies, the group needs a" safety guard". This is when the largest female, fish in the group begins to change its appearance. She begins to grow larger. After a week, her body starts change from yellow to blue. Slowly, her behaviour towards the females changes. She begins behaving like a male. Two weeks later, black stripes（条纹）appear on her body. This shows that the change is complete. She is now completely male and ready to be the guard!

The angelfish are among the most brightly coloured fish of the sea. You can also see them in home aquaria. People prefer to keep them because of the interesting patterns on them. These patterns help them to hide from enemies. Often, the young ones are differently coloured than the adults. 

They can be found in the fresh waters of South America and, in warm seas coral reefs （珊瑚礁） and can grow up to a length of 17 inches. Their diet are mainly sponge and algae. 

In Mu Us Desert（毛乌素沙漠）, known as"a land that couldn't feed its people", Yu Zhenyin has created miracles. Starting in 1985, this determined woman transformed over 70, 000 mu（亩）of desert into an oasis（绿洲）through relentless（不屈不挠的）efforts. 

At first, Yu faced endless challenges——sandstorms buried 90% of her saplings（树苗）within three years. But her perseverance paid off. By developing new desert farming techniques like" grid planting"（网格种植）, she not only stabilized the sand but also grew crops like corn between trees. Her success inspired 127 neighboring families to join this green mission. 

Now called" the Golden Phoenix（凤凰）", Yu continues innovating（创新）. She introduced eco-tourism and desert honey production, helping villagers increase their annual income by¥15, 000 on average. "Give the desert green life, and it will reward us with prosperity, " Yu says, proving that desert control can create both ecological and economic valūe.
