Beer and eggs are commonly seen in the kitchen. However, scientists recently found that they were used in historic paintings, too. 

To preserve Danish paintings, a group of researchers studied what ancient paints were made of. They did experiments on small pieces of paintings that had already been cut off from the original artwork. 

According to their paper published in ScienceAdvances, grains and yeast were found on the base of the paintings. Beer was the most common drink in the 19th century in Denmark, and its by-products were spent grains and yeast:

The study showed that they were used to provide a stable painting surface. Researchers also pointed out that beer by-products were used as a "glue" because they had a lot of sugar. With beer added, the paint can also dry faster. 

Apart from beer, the egg has long been found in oil-based paints used by artists in the15th century, such as Italian painter Leonardo da Vinci. A recent study published in Nature Communications may have" cracked" the secret of how eggs can help preserve artworks. 

The researchers re-created the ancient paint by adding egg yolks to oil paint. They then looked into how it changed over time. The findings showed that the yolk's proteins helped slow the oxidation of the paint. It could also reduce wrinkling as the egg makes the paint smoother. 

However, the oil paint with added eggs usually takes longer to dry. It seemed fine for artists— they were willing to accept to have their works preserved for longer. 

"The more we understand how artists choose and use their materials, the more we can appreciate what they' re doing", Ken Sutherland, an expert at the Art Institute of Chicago, US, told Science News. Sutherland added that research like this could help people have a deeper understanding of the artworks.

On Friday, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security announced that China hasplans to introduce 19 new professions and 29newly classified types of work. The aim of this move is to boost the development of new employment opportunities. 

 Among the new professions are live-streaming hosts, generative artificial intelligence system operators, user growth operation managers, intelligent connected vehicle testers, cloud network intelligent maintenance personnel, cultural and creative product planners and operators, intelligent manufacturing system maintenance personnel, industrial Internet maintenance personnel, and bioengineering technicians. 

In addition, the newly classified types of work will encompass areas such as mobile operating system application designers. 

The Ministry announced that the establishment of these occupations is designed to enhance the professional recognition of workers and enable them to enjoy the benefits offered by relevant national policies. 

Last October, the ministry actively invited the public to provide their feedback on the proposed new occupations. Surprisingly, it received more than 430 suggestions. The majority of these suggestions were mainly concentrated in specific areas such as business services, manufacturing, and information technology. 

According to the ministry, the preliminary list of the 19 new occupations and 29 newly classified types of work will be made available for public review. This provides a valuable opportunity for the public to freely express their opinions and actively contribute to shaping the future job landscape in the country. 

Buddy Ball is a program. It offers help to (able) kids. My friend Ally and Ispend a few hours every week as volunteers there. 

At the moment, we are buddies(朋友, 伙伴) for an eleven-year-old boy (call)Tom. He is a kid  very few language skills. It's (believe) that he is a good basketball player although he is in a wheelchair. Just like any kid, it makes him upset when he (miss) a shot or makes a bad pass. He starts to cry and doesn't want to play. So, as his buddies, we encourage him. We have learned how (communication)with him. It is great to see how he has improved and he doesn't get upset so (easy). 

His parents are really happy about Buddy Ball. They say, "To tell the (true), we always think it is unfair for our son. Tom (become) more confident and sociable since he joined Buddy Ball. It's a great (succeed). Thank you!"

Buddy Ball is a great chance for everyone! I love volunteering for Buddy Ball. 

Clapper(响板) talk, or Chinese kuaiban, is a traditional art form. Players talk and sing with a pair of bamboo clappers. It can also be regarded as traditionalChinese rap. 

Julia is a big clapper talk fan. She has been learning it since she  six years old. The  time she watched clapper talk shows, she was surprised at the free style and lively language. That encouraged  to learn it. 

Learning clapper talk is not easy. However, Julia never gave up, even though she many difficulties. She loved it and hoped to enjoy the success behind her hard work. She was  when she completed her first piece of the clapper talk. 

After many practice, she has made great progress. Her love for clapper talk became  than before. She also starts to understand its culture meaning. What's more, in order to have an influence on people, she is interested in making clapper talk on the topic of love and care. People are encouraged by her to  about old people around them and love their family. Playing the clapper talk has helped her enjoy this art form even more. And she will continue developing it. 

A few years ago, I took a sightseeing trip to London. I saw many of our nation's treasures, and I also saw a lot of our fellow countrymen in the streets—1 people like beggars and homeless men. Standing on the Oxford street, I heard a voice say, "Can you help me?"

When I turned around, I saw an elderly blind woman with her hand holding out. Naturally, I 2 into my pocket, pulled out all of my change and placed it in her hand without even looking at her. I felt unhappy to be 3 by a beggar. But the blind woman smiled and said, "I don't want your money. I just need help to find the post office. " In a second, I realized what I had done. I'd judged another person 4 for what I supposed she was. I felt a sense of 5 when I realized this. This event brought back my belief. I believed that I should never look down upon others, although I'd lost that 6 for a moment. The thing I had forgotten about myself is that I came from another country. 

I left India and arrived in Britain at the age of 15. I started my new life with two suitcases, my brother, my sister and a strong mother. Through the years, I have been a dishwasher, cashier, mechanic and pizza delivery driver among many other jobs, and finally Ibecame a network engineer. So far, in my own life, I have 7 many acts of being looked down upon by others. I remember a time, at age 17, I was a busboy, and I heard a father tell his little boy that if he did not do well at school, he would end up like me. 

But now, living in my Britain middle-class lifestyle, it is too easy to forget my 8 , to forget who I am and where I have been, and to lose sight of where I want to go. That blind woman on the street of London cured my blindness 9 . She reminded me to always keep my eyes and heart open. I really thank her for the priceless 10 that she gave me. By the way, I helped that lady to the post office.
