After studying for a long time, my brother Micky has now graduated and we are very(luck) to have a doctor in the family! My mom and dad, my sister and I are all interested in arts and languages. No one in the family has ever studied medicine before— it's so difficult and takes such a long time (study). So we' re all very proud of him. As well as this, we have a doctor of our own to ask  any medical problems we have! How good that is! I think Micky will make  excellent doctor. He's patient and understanding, and he (care) a lot about people. He (help) at car accidents and done some small operations. I admire him very much. I can't stand the sight of blood, so I could never do what he does! Micky says he wants to work in hospitals where he can help people with different (ill). Though he knows doctors in hospitals work very long hours, he doesn't mind. In (I) opinion, it's wonderful if you can have a job that you (real) enjoy and Micky has found one. I just hope he isn't busy that the rest of us have to make an appointment to say hello. 

Do you raise silkworms these days? For  of years, people in China have been watching the wonderful life of silkworms. It is said that the silkworm's silk was  byLei Zu, the wife of the Yellow Emperor. The idea  came to Lei Zu when she was having tea under the tree. One day, a cocoon suddenly fell into her tea and she picked it out. Then she  that the cocoon was actually made of a long thread that was strong and soft. So the secret about silkworms was discovered and she taught this to the people. Many families started to  the silkworms for silk. 

For ages, the empresses(皇后) held the silkworm-raising ceremony every spring. They picked the  and fed the silkworms. At the same time, the emperors held the farming ceremony. Silkworm raising and farming were the  important things in ancient Chinese life. Silk was not only  in China, but also in the rest of the world. It traveled through the Silk Road and was loved by people in foreign countries. Over the years, silk has always  a symbol of China. It plays an important role in culture and economy. 

In my childhood, my mother spent her evening hours doing something for someone else. Sometimes she knitted(编织) hats for babies, and at other times, she cooked chicken soup for sick neighbors. Therefore, I wasn't 1 when one evening my mother announced she had taken on a new project.

Between 245 million and 66 million yearsago, dinosaurs ruled the land.  Some groups of dinosaurs evolved to be able to fly but, until now, experts thought that they never truly took to the water apart from having a bit of a paddle. However, dinosaur bones that were discovered in Africa have now challenged this theory. 

The bones came from a group of dinosaurs called hadrosaurids(鸭嘴龙). They first appeared in North America during a period known as the late Cretaceous— between 100million and 66 million years ago. They eventually spread into Europe and Asia, which were connected to North America at that time. 

However, scientists were confused by the bones appearing in Africa. Today, because the land has moved over many years, Africa is connected to Asia. But in the Cretaceous period, Africa was a huge island separated from Asia and Europe by sea, and it wasn't connected toSouth America. So how did the hadrosaurids get there, across hundreds of miles of water, millions of years ago?

According to a new scientific study, the bones found— from a skull, an arm and a leg—came from three species, one smaller and two larger. In fact, scientists think the skull belongs to a completely new hadrosaurid species, named Minqaria bata. They say the body structure ofMinqaria bat a was similar to European hadrosaurids. 

The study says the only possible conclusion is that the hadrosaurids must have swum toAfrica. Dr. Nicholas Longrich, one of the authors, said, "The Cretaceous lasted nearly 100million years. A lot of strange things would happen in that time— including dinosaurs crossing seas. " Dr. Longrich described the hadrosaurids in Africa as the most surprising find of his career. He said a hadrosaurid was the last thing he would have imagined finding in Africa.

 French people are the third-largest ethnic group in Canada, with Chinesebeing second and British being the majority. In the province of Quebec(魁北克省), where most French Canadians live, people mainly speak and write in French. Outside of Quebec, bothEnglish and French are used. All writing onCanadian products must be written in English andFrench. How did this come to be?

In the book The White and the Gold by Canadian author Thomas B Costain, I got my answer. The author explains the development of Canada in an interesting way with facts and real people's stories. As he describes, the French and the English both tried different ways to colonize Canada. The French encouraged their people to visit the new world with the promise of becoming rich. Many expected to return to France and enjoy an easy life with their new money. They just wanted to exchange goods with the natives and didn't care about building the land into a big country. 

The English way was very different. They would set up large cities and produce their own expensive goods. Instead of trading with the natives, the British just brought so many people to the colonies that they could support themselves. When the two countries went to war, theBritish had over 40, 000 soldiers, while the French only had 10, 000. 

On Canada's way to national independence, the anger of the French Canadians continued to scare the British. Slowly, the treatment of French Canadians got better. Quebec was made to support French Canadian people: Laws were made to protect French culture and language inside Quebec, and French became an official language of Canada. Government workers across Canada are required to speak both English and French. The French language is taught in every school, making sure that every Canadian has at least a basic understanding of French.
