One of my earliest memories is playing" shops" with my grandpa when I was 5. After leaving school at 18, I worked in a fruit shop, but I had no 1 of how to run my own shop back then. 

Several years later, my husband Eric and I heard about a shop for sale in a nearby village. We had a look and decided to have it as our own. We were a bit 2 at shop keeping, so we often didn't know what the 3 were asking for. But we soon learned how to run it well. 

Nowadays, more people shop online, but they still come here for things 4 from their order. I've kept up with technology, but the shop itself hasn't changed much. 

Now, as I'm getting older, the shop is open from 7 am to 6 pm on weekdays, 5 closing at 8:30 pm like before. 

Eric died 16 years ago, but I am 6 giving up the shop. I love it all— talking to the customers and getting 7 they want. Some customers come in two or three times a day. They often tell me their 8 and I offer advice if I can. 

It was the shop's 50th anniversary(周年纪念日) on May 13 this year. I wanted to do something 9 , so I held a party with my customers. I also wrote a book about my memories in the shop. 

This shop has been my life. I never 10 I'd still be here after 50 years, but I love it and the people here. It's what keeps me going.

Shanya Gill, a 12-year-old student from California, did something amazing: She won a big science award for her smart fire alarm. She came up with a cool idea for a fire alarm that works better than the ones we have now. 

Shanya got the idea after a restaurant in her neighborhood caught fire. Even though they had smoke alarms, the fire still happened. This got Shanya thinking. 

It was tough at first, but she kept trying. After a year of hard work, Shanya's fire alarm can tell if there's a fire starting and sends a text message to warn people. Making the alarm wasn't easy. Shanya had some problems with the first one she made. But she didn't give up. In the end, she made it faster and cheaper, so more people can have it. 

Maya Ajmera, who runs a science group, thinks Shan ya is great. She says Shanya's success encourages kids to solve problems. And Shan ya's success also shows how important it is for kids to try and fix problems. 

Shanya's invention is a big deal. It shows that kids can do amazing things and make the world a safer place for everyone.

The 14th Beijing International Film Festival(BJIFF) officially began on Thursday with its opening ceremony at Beijing Yanqi Lake International Convention and Exhibition Center. 

The opening ceremony, with "Enlightened by Films, United as One" as the keywords, started with a grand red carpet event. Over 200 celebrities attended. 

China's 2024 box office has exceeded 18. 176billion yuan. A total of 4, 273 films were submitted for this year's BJIFF, with 1, 509 feature films from 118 countries and regions for the feature film section. 

15 films are competing for the Tiantan Award, including 12 foreign films and 3 domestic films. Australian sound editor David White, a juror for the Tiantan Award, said it's his first time at the BJIFF and he looks forward to the films and more co-productions between Australia and China. 

Roger Tredre from the UK was impressed that the BJIFF brought in fashion elements with a special competition for short fashion films. He noted the rapid evolution of fashion in China and the need for better communication quality. 

Another highlight is 18 classic films including Prosperity Brought by theDragon and the Phoenix, Qin Xianglian and Farewell My Concubine, as part of the" Peking Opera Film Project". 

Wang, deputy curator of the China National Film Museum, stated that the "Peking Opera Film Project" is of great significance in the current context of promoting fine traditional Chinese culture. "Peking opera films are a carrier for telling Chinese stories and spreading Chinese culture, " he added.

In the Western Zhou Dynasty, archery was an important part of education for gentlemen. At the age of 15, they began learning archery. The most famous competition was GrandArchery. It was held by the emperor. The competitors bowed before shooting and drank together after it.
