My name is Ann. I worked as a volunteer in 2013 because I wanted to do something to help others. I called some charity shops(慈善商店)to ask if they needed volunteers. Although I didn't mind where I volunteered, I was glad that one of the Sue Ryder shops said yes. Sue Ryder was a charity very close to my heart because volunteers from Sue Ryder once cared for my dad in the hospital.

Volunteering in the shop helped me know what shop work was like and I was surprised to find how much I really enjoyed doing it. I also found how important the public(公众) were. Lots of people gave us things they didn't need for the shops to sell. In this way Sue Ryder raised money to care for people with life - changing illnesses. I always left the charity shop late because I knew how important the work of Sue Ryder was.

Another thing I enjoyed about volunteering was talking with other volunteers in the shop. They were friendly and helpful. I really improved my teamwork skills by volunteering.

I worked in the shop from April 1st to August 1st. I learned many things from it and I'm sure they will be useful in the future.

World Water Day

What is World Water Day?

Everyone needs water, and every drop(滴)is important. In 1992, the United Nations decided to make a special day for water to make more people know how valuable water is, World Water Day has been celebrated on March 22 every year since 1993. The theme is not the same each year for the day. 

Why do we need water?

The human body is about 60 percent water, and we need to drink lots of water to be healthy. We also need it for cooking, washing and doing many other things. We use water indirectly, too. Farmers use water to make the plants grow. A lot of water is used to produce the clothes we wear. 

Does everyone have enough water?

We all need water to stay alive, but over two billion people around the world live without safe water in their homes. That's around 25 percent of the world's population! Besides, climate (气候) change is making the water less and less. 

What happens on World Water Day?

On this day, many countries hold events to educate people about the importance of water and call on people to protect water resources. For example, a lot of groups organize activities like " Walk for Water", where people walk four, eight or twelve kilometers each day in March, to see how they feel when they have to walk a long way to get their drinking water.

It was nine on a cold winter night, | hurried to go home from work on my bike.

Is your schoolbag full of papers and broken pencils? Do you know how to organize your schoolwork?

First of all, begin by making a plan. Whenever you get a new task, write it in your notebook. For big tasks such as projects, write due dates for all the parts of the project.  Then you will finish your schoolwork on time. 

Then, organize your schoolwork every day. Put the papers in three piles( 沓). The first pile is for recycling. Throw away the papers you don't need. The second pile is for your family members.  The third pile is for new schoolwork or projects. Put the papers from this pile in the folder(文件夹) or notebook that they belong to. 

 On the one hand, it's useful for your organization. You can find your notes quickly as long as you need them again. On the other hand, it's good to keep old tests and projects, too. You can use them to help you study. 

Finally, get ready for tomorrow. Don't rush around in the morning with papers flying everywhere.  These steps will keep you organized and on schedule(顶定时间)with your tasks.

④Another problem is space. Most planes need long runways to take off and land. Lifting straight up and down like a helicopter(直升机) solves this problem. Finding places to put flying cars could be tricky, especially in crowded cities. But maybe some could stay on top of buildings.

The Mogao Caves( 莫高窟)are a very special place in China, which lie in Dunhuang, Gansu Prvince. The Mogao Caves are thousands of years old. In 1987, they were listed as a world heritage( 遗 产 ) site by UNESCO. 

Many people, including archaeologists ( 考古学家) and researchers, work hard to take care of the Mogao Caves and learn more about them. Fan Jinshi is one of them. 

Fan Jinshi was born in Beijing on July 9, 1938. Her father graduated from Tsinghua University and he had a strong interest in Chinese classical art and culture. 

Influenced by her father, Fan Jinshi liked visiting museums when she was in middle school. With the great love of Chinese culture, she studied in the archaeology department in Peking University and graduated in 1963. Then she started working at Dunhuang. There she spent almost 60 years taking care of Dunhuang. People call her the "Daughter of Dunhuang". 

On May 4, 2023, Fan Jinshi returned to Peking University. And she brought back 10 million RMB donations to set up the Fan Jinshi Educatio Fund( 基 金 ) to support the research of Dunhuarng at Peking University. 

"Money should be spent in the right way. People cannot only think of themselves, " she said. "Hopefully the Fund can help Dunhuang studies at the university, so it can raise cultural confidence and strength. "
