During this year's summer holiday, I flew from Beijing to London, UK. 

When I arrived in London, I felt nervous by the seven-hour time difference, the new language, the buildings and the people at the train station. Everything was so different. It made me worried about my short stay there. 

I joined a girls' middle school and learned many new things there over the course of five days. I felt lonely and helpless at first because my vocabulary (词汇) was poor. Although my learning partner was really friendly, I just couldn't relax. 

This feeling continued until a PE class changed everything. Some girls smiled and invited me to join their baseball game. Even though I had never played baseball before, I decided to give it a try and managed to hit the ball on my first try. At that moment, time seemed to stop, and then cheers broke out all around me. The other girls hugged me and shouted, "Hey, Eileen, you did an amazing job!" From then on, I felt truly happy and relaxed, and I really began to fit in with others. 

That experience helped me see the bridge between London and my hometown, Tianjin—a bridge built with care and love. We may not come from the same country or have the same skin color, but love brings us all together. This lesson continues to hold great importance in my life. 

Each year from June to October, there are floods in the small village of Bangladesh. Many students can't go to school.  (lucky), they have the floating school now. 

Rezwan is the founder (创办者) of the first floating school, Sangstha. He  (start) the special school several years ago. "I thought,  the children cannot come to school, then the school should go to them by boat, " Rezwan said. The boat first works  the school bus, picking up children in front of their houses. Then, the boat  (stop) at a place, and school begins. The children have five  (class) on the boat every day. "Our floating school is a school bus as well as a school house, " Rezwan said with a big smile on his face. Nancy is  11-year-old student in the floating school. In the past, when the flood season came, it was difficult for  (she) to get to school. It usually took her about two hours  (walk) there. "Many of my classmates couldn't go to school because of the floods. We were really unhappy. And our parents were always  (worry) about us. Now we can study and play together. I love the new school. It is beautiful. "

School life is a very important part of one's life. It provides opportunity for study and discipline (纪律). It is also a preparatory period for entering public life. 

School helps students understand discipline better.  They show good behavior in the classroom, playground, library and other places. 

School is a meeting place for students and teachers. School life is generally a period of youth.  They read together, play together and sit together. At this time, they have early dreams which will come true as they grow older. 

 Students take part in games and competitions. School also gives opportunity for the budding (崭露头角的) poets, scientists, writers, doctors and painters. It is in school that the students enjoy the pleasure of achieving their goals. 

 In school, teachers try to lead students away from bad thoughts. And at the same time, they teach them good qualities. 

In the library, in class and in competitions, students get chances to improve themselves. Above all, in examinations they try to show their best sides. Thus, they get the opportunity to take part in more activities. School has clearly a healthy influence on students. But some students are satisfied with bad friends and try to avoid the influence of their teachers. 

Xie Xiaohua is a special education teacher. She has won the hearts of hundreds of children and is called Mum Xiaohua by many of them. 

"It is my greatest happiness to care for them, " said 51-year-old Xie. She has been working at Yiyuan County Special Education School in Zibo, Shandong Province for 29 years. 

Xie knows the difference between special education and general education. She takes care of each student according to their physical conditions. And she also helps them with learning and their daily life. She used to help carry a student to restrooms, the dining hall, classrooms and the dormitory for nine years until the student graduated (毕业) from the school. 

In 2013, the school set up a rehabilitation (康复) centre and Xie worked harder. To make sure every child received the best training, she made special plans for them. Then she began to teach them patiently the basic skills of taking care of themselves. She also spent lots of time training the children with hearing and speech problems. That often made her throat ache. 

In 2015, the school started offering door-to-door education to students with physical problems. Besides Xie, there are over 30 teachers teaching and helping those students. The teachers have walked over 60, 000 kilometres over the past seven years because many students live in mountain villages. 

"Although we feel tired sometimes, we feel our work is valuable after seeing the students' progress, even just a little bit, " Xie said. 

The sun was shining brightly over our heads and sweat (汗水) was pouring down our back and faces. We stood still without making any noise, all hot and tired. But everyone kept standing as straight as trees. 

It was something most junior high schools give to new Junior One students—military (军事的) training. We spent four days in a closed environment. Although we couldn't go home at night and the training was strict and difficult, our humorous young sergeant (教官) was a real pleasure of our days. We laughed at his jokes, sat in rows singing different songs and listened to him telling true stories about his life. He gave us the feeling that sunlight and sweat were not the only things that military training offered. 

After this journey, we were stronger than we had imagined and we were much braver than we had expected. Students who looked pale rested for a little while, and then right away came back to the team. Students who were late rushed to the playground at once and began to run. Sweat poured down our faces, but we didn't care about it at all. 

Military training taught us to be brave and strong and never to give up. On the last day of our training, the confidence could be seen on our faces. We shouted so loud that our voices could be heard across the sky. With eyes like burning fire, we walked into the future. Now the sun is smiling at all of us. 

Teenagers need eight to ten hours of sleep per night. However, in adolescence (青春期), changes to the body's sleep cycle make it difficult for teens to fall asleep early. Many cannot fall asleep until 10:30 p. m. or even later and most of them will feel sleepy if they have to get up too early. 

Scientists recommend that both middle and high schools begin no earlier than 8:30 a. m. Later school start times support the natural needs of teenagers and increase their sleeping time. 

Here are some other benefits of later school start times:

More time for a healthy breakfast

When running late in the mornings, students are likely to go without breakfast. With an empty stomach, one finds it difficult to focus in class. When they are always in a hurry, students may form unhealthy eating habits. 

With extra time before going to school, students can eat a well-balanced breakfast and focus more on learning. 

Fewer behavioral (行为的) problems

Teens experience mood changes as a common result of this special period of life. Less sleep may cause worries, stress and unhappiness. 

When they get enough sleep, students are calm and peaceful and their moods do not change suddenly. They're less likely to feel worried, unhappy or get angry. For parents, children with more sleep are easier to live with. 

Better performance(表现) in study

Sleep loss hurts attention, memory and brain development. Students with less sleep have difficulty paying attention in class and are likely to have lower grades. Students with enough sleep can be more energetic during the day and more willing to learn. They are also less likely to fall asleep in class and more able to understand what they learn. 

In conclusion, starting school later helps students get a better night's sleep. It improves their chances of eating, behaving and performing better.

Peter: Mum, I'm so proud that you are a 1 . How many students are there in your class?

Mum: Forty-five. 

Peter: Then it's hard to have many one-to-one talks with each person. How do you know what's going on in their minds in class?

Mum: My 2 ? I look at their body language.
