◆Start with your shoulders

Our shoulders play an important role in keeping good overall posture. Naturally, our body weight is supported by our spine (脊柱). Our back muscles (肌肉) have to work all the time to help us sit up straight.  That way, the muscles in our back and neck don't have to work as hard.

◆Your arms need a rest

If your arms are not supported, they will sooner or later start to pull on your neck and shoulders. 

◆Keep your screen or book right in front of you

If you keep your screen or book off-center from your chair, you'll have to turn your body and head to see it. This is a common cause of sitting pain.  Raise or lower it slightly so that the top is at eye level.

◆Take breaks

 Consider setting an alarm to check your posture every hour. It can help keep your body in good shape.

If I ask you to picture a school building, what will come to your mind? Maybe bright yellow or blue walls? Or classrooms with big windows? You might change your mind after reading this article about Huizhen High School in Zhejiang.

The school looks like a "floating forest". The classrooms are "hung" in different corners of this "forest". There are also tree houses for students to rest from their busy schoolwork. A ramp (坡道) leads up to a rooftop that is used as both a lecture hall and a park with sports areas. Everything there, from the theater and library to the labs and stores, is connected by a long walkway. Students always walk among trees on this Z-shaped walkway.

Ma is one of the school's designers. He is always trying to create fun buildings. While working on this high school, Ma wanted to design more than just a collection of buildings. By bringing the power of nature into his design, he hopes to reshape how people think about school life. The designers think "blank spaces" are really important in a school. "I want to give students a place to relax, daydream and discover beauty," Ma said. "You know, people are often most creative when they seem to be ‘doing nothing'."

At the 2023 World Architecture Festival, Huizhen High School was named the World Building of the Year. One of the judges said he was impressed by the design because no one would imagine a school could look like this. What surprised him most was how buildings and nature mixed together in a really wonderful way. He hoped to take a lesson from this "forest" school in design.

The lion dance is often seen during festivals and celebrations in China. It is a traditional Chinese art form with a history of thousands of years and shows the spirit and creativity of Chinese people.

In the Han Dynasty, a golden lion was brought to China as a gift. After that, people danced like lions. During the Three Kingdoms period, the state of Wu wore lion costumes to scare enemies and show its power. In the Tang Dynasty, it became a popular activity for the emperor. Since the Song Dynasty, lion dances have spread and become a common show for ordinary people. People loved them and created different styles over time.

There are two main types of lions used in the lion dance: the Northern Lion and the Southern Lion. The Northern Lion looks strong and brave. It has big eyes and lots of fur. The dancers who play the Northern Lion do many cool moves, like jumping and rolling, just like a real lion. The Southern Lion is smaller in size, with more colours but a simpler design. It also has a funny face. Sometimes it looks happy, and sometimes it looks angry.

Performing the lion dance well requires skills and practice. If dancers want to be proficient in it, they need to practise a lot to learn how to move together and make the lion look real. They also need to listen to the music carefully, like drums, because they tell them when to move fast or slow. One of the most exciting parts of it is when the lion tries to get a "green" (usually a vegetable) that is hanging high up. This part is called "cai qing" in Chinese, which means "picking the green". It is a symbol of good luck and wealth. As time goes by, the lion dance stays fresh. It mixes with music, dance, and acrobatics (杂技).

Nowadays, the lion dance remains an important and popular art form in Chinese culture. Chinese people often get together to watch the performance during festivals.

Sarai, a 12-year-old girl, loved horses. She was so happy that she got a horse named Amadore. But Amadore was afraid and would not let her put on his halter (缰绳). Her dad said, "If you can't do it by tomorrow, he must go back to the farm." Sarai tried giving apples and talking softly, but Amadore still hid in the corner.

A boy named Cody watched her. "I know why he's afraid," he said. Sarai looked upset. "Leave me alone!" But after another failed try, she asked Cody, "What's wrong?"

"Your face looks worried," Cody explained. "Horses feel what you feel." He showed her an experiment. They took two pictures of Silvio, a groom (马夫): one smiling, one angry. Cody held the happy picture near his horse, Monty. Monty stayed calm. But when Cody showed the angry picture, Monty breathed loudly and stepped back.

Sarai smiled big and walked into Amadore's stall.

"Let's try again, boy," she said gently, with a soft and kind voice. Amadore smelled her hand, taking in her friendly smell. Slowly, he moved closer, his feet making soft sounds on the ground. Sarai carefully put the halter on him, being very careful not to scare him. Tears filled her eyes. "You did it!" she said to Amadore quietly. Sarai looked at Cody with a grateful look on her face. Cody gave her a thumbs-up. "See? Smiles work!" Cody smiled.

Later, they heard noise in another stall. Two kids were trying to brush a jumpy female horse. "She hates this!" one shouted. Sarai smiled widely, "I know your problem. Smile! Horses like happy faces."

Once, a father and his son went to a kite flying festival. The son was very excited to see all the colourful1 in the sky and asked his father to buy him one. To make him 2 , the father went to a nearby shop at the park and bought one.

A DIY bookmark for myfavourite book

Last week I took part in our school's Reading & Bookmark-making activity. 

Dumplings are a kind of traditional Chinese food with a history of more than 1, 800 years. They are also delicious food on Chinese New Year's Eve. They are really popular in China, especially in the north of China. 

Dumplings usually look like Chinese silver ingots (银元宝). Chinese people like to eat dumplings. There are some interesting ideas about them. For example, the more dumplings you eat during the Spring Festival, the more money you can make in the new year. 

Dumplings have different tastes because of their different fillings. There are many different kinds of fillings. Some popular fillings are meat and vegetables. Different people like to eat dumplings with different fillings. Do you know how to make dumplings? Almost all Chinese people can make dumplings. They find it very easy to make dumplings. Here is a recipe for making dumplings. 

* First, mix the flour into the dough (面团). 

* Second, make the dough into round wrappers (面皮) with a rolling pin (擀面杖). 

* Third, fill the wrappers with fillings. 

* Fourth, pinch (捏) the wrappers together. 

* Finally, cook them in the hot water. 

As a little girl, I was always interested in watching my mum cook meals. But my parents thought I was too young to cook by  (I), so I didn't have a chance (机会) to try cooking. 

Last Saturday, it was raining heavily. It was  (possible) for us to go out on such a day and I felt quite bored. Mum got an idea. She told me to try cooking with her. I thought it could be fun and wanted to have a try. So I said OK. 

My mum smiled and told me to be careful  everything. I walked into the kitchen and decided to make chicken and rice. I put two bowls of rice into the rice cooker and  (add) some water. After that, I began to wash onions and potatoes. My mum handed the knife to me and asked me to cut them up. It was difficult at first,  I made it. Then I put the chicken, the onions and potatoes, and some sauce  the pot (锅). One hour  (late), the rice and the chicken both  (finish). 

I  (quick) brought the food to the table. My parents were already sitting there, waiting for my meal. They tried the food and said it was pretty good. I felt it was one of my  (happy) moments in life.
